PROJECT MERCURY: Redstone
Project Mercury was the first human spaceflight program of the United States. It ran from 1959 through 1963 with two goals: putting a human in orbit around the Earth, and doing it before the Soviet Union, as part of the early space race. The Mercury-Redstone Launch Vehicle, designed for NASA was the first American manned space booster. It was used for six sub-orbital Mercury flights from 1960--61; culminating with the launch of the first, and second American (and the second and third humans) in space. Freedom 7 / Project Mercury - 1961 NASA Manned Space Program Documentary
NASA documentary about the early space programs of the United States, focusing on the sub orbital manned flight of Alan Shepard aboard the Mercury capsule "Freedom 7", launched by a Redstone rocket. Background information about this space flight from www-pao.ksc.nasa.gov The main scientific objective of project Mercury was to determine man's capabilities in a space environment and in those environments to which he will be subject upon going into and returning from space. A few of the basic flight problems included: The development of an automatic escape system, vehicle control during insertion, behavior of space systems, evaluation of pilots capabilities in space, in flight monitoring, retrofire and reentry maneuvers and landing and recovery.

Project Mercury Quarterly Report #8 NASA MR-4 Gus Grissom Liberty Bell 7
more at scitech.quickfound.net "Quarterly progress report for Project Mercury: July, August, September 1961." Astronaut Gus Grissom witnesses the test of an explosive hatch, first used on his Liberty Bell 7 MR-4 flight, which blew accidentally after splashdown, resulting in the loss of the spacecraft (and near loss of the astronaut). Public domain film from NASA, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and 1-pass exposure & color correction applied (cannot be ideal in all scenes). The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). PROJECT MERCURY PLAYLIST: www.youtube.com en.wikipedia.org Mercury-Redstone 4 was the second United States manned space mission, launched on July 21, 1961. The Mercury program suborbital flight used a Redstone rocket. The spacecraft was named Liberty Bell 7 piloted by astronaut Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom. It reached an altitude of more than 118.26 mi (190.32 km) and traveled about 300 mi (480 km)... Liberty Bell 7 Mercury spacecraft #11 was designated to fly the second manned suborbital flight in October, 1960. It came off McDonnell's St. Louis production line in May 1960. Spacecraft #11 was the first Mercury operational spacecraft with a centerline window. It was closer to the final orbital version than was Alan Shepard's Freedom 7. Dubbed Liberty Bell 7, it featured a ...

Episode 28: Modular Data Center RFP Winner, Project Mercury
In this episode, Dean & Mike announce the winner of the Modular Data Center RFP, now known as "PROJECT MERCURY". Dean Nelson, Sr Director of Global Data Center Services for Ebay, and Mike Lewis, Director of Mission Critical Engineering for Ebay are joined by Gary Cudmore and Rob Nash-Boulden from EDI Ltd, the winning team for the RFP bid (EDI, AHA Consulting Engineers & Winterstreet Architects) to discuss the project and next steps. Dean also introduces an innovative Extreme Density modular product solution that came from Skanska during this process - eHive. All in all, a compelling result to an unconventional process. An unknown company, the smallest of the submitters, wins the bid and a DC construction firm releases a highly innovative technology product tailored to the RFP requirements.

NASA Early Missons: Project Mercury A look back at early history of space exploration and know how early Astronauts endured the hardship of space travel. One may ask what is the point in showing a video about early day of space explorations? Its easy for us now we take every thing for granted about Space Exploration, but how many of us know about the hardships and sacrifices done in the early days of space age, well this serious is all about that. I uploaded Russians Early triumphs and now want to show about NASA early big missions.

Mercury-Redstone 1 Launch failure (MR-1)
The video shows the Mercury-Redstone rocket firing and then immediately shutting its engine off. Shortly after, the launch escape tower got the signal that the engine had shut down, so it detached itself. Then the drogue chute, followed by the main and reserve chutes, were ejected due to the rocket thinking it had finished its course. From Wikipedia: "Mercury-Redstone 1 (MR-1) was the first Mercury-Redstone mission in the Mercury program and the first attempt to launch a Mercury spacecraft with the Mercury-Redstone launch vehicle. Intended to be an unmanned sub-orbital flight, it was launched on November 21, 1960 from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The launch failed in a peculiar fashion which has been referred to as the "four-inch flight"."
