Acqua alta pronunciation (help·info) (Italian: 'high waters') is the term used in Veneto for the exceptional tide peaks that occur periodically in the northern Adriatic Sea. The peaks reach their maximum in the Venetian Lagoon, where they cause partial flooding of Venice and Chioggia; flooding also occurs elsewhere around the northern Adriatic, for instance at Grado and Trieste, but much less often and to a lesser degree. The phenomenon occurs mainly between autumn and spring, when the astronomical tides are reinforced by the prevailing seasonal winds which hamper the usual reflux. The main winds involved are the scirocco, which blows northbound along the Adriatic Sea, and the bora, which has a specific local effect due to the shape and location of the Venetian lagoon.
Precise scientific parameters define the phenomenon called acqua alta, the most significant of which (i.e., the deviation in amplitude from a base measurement of "standard" tides) is measured by the hydrographic station located nearby the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute. Supernormal tidal events can be categorized as:
Donna Leon (born in 1942, in Montclair, New Jersey) is the American author of a series of crime novels set in Venice and featuring the fictional hero Commissario Guido Brunetti.
Leon has lived in Venice for over 25 years. She was a lecturer in English Literature for the University of Maryland University College - Europe (UMUC-Europe) in Italy, and then worked as a Professor from 1981 to 1999 at the American military base of Vicenza (Italy)[citation needed]. She stopped teaching and concentrated on writing and other cultural activities in the field of music (especially Baroque music).
The Commissario Brunetti novels are all situated in or around Venice. They are written in English and translated into many foreign languages, but not into Italian, at Leon's request. The ninth Brunetti novel, Friends in High Places, won the Crime Writers' Association Silver Dagger in 2000. German Television has produced 16 Commissario Brunetti mysteries for broadcast.
The intelligent and capable police commissioner Guido Brunetti confronts crime in and around his home town of Venice. Each case is an opportunity for the author to reveal another aspect of the seamy underside of society, and another aspect of Venetian life. Brunetti serves the vain and self-serving buffoon, Vice-questore Patta, while Sergente Vianello and the all-knowing and well-connected Signorina Elettra, Patta's secretary, assist Brunetti on the ground and through research.

Did you ever listen to your heart; it’ll tell u that we’re falling apart
Like the wind hiding the water, your words say nothing at all
I guess this time you won’t hold me when I fall
I’m confused by when you always say
Don’t worry baby, this time we’ll get by
=======
Chorus:
You stab me in my heart, over and over again
I’m cold now, more than I have been before
Like the sun as it sets on the sea, I’m drowning
Your lies won’t let me live at all, I'm drowning
=======
Verse 2:
We start all over again, just like the first day
Based on lies that you’re here to stay
No matter how close you hold me, how deep you’ll kiss me,
I’ll be broken forever,
And it will be always the same
=======
Chorus
Bridge:
I feel alone now in your arms, your lies can’t hurt me anymore,
as you sail across the oceans
far away as it seems
i know that the tide will
bring you back home to me
don't worry about me
or how we're far apart
our promises that we're bound to keep
together is where our story ends, our song, our destinyyyyyyyyy
when pictures fade away
and moment passes by
our love remains the same
pours like the rain
don't worry about me
or how we're far apart
we knew the end right from the start
our promises that we're bound to keep
its not that i don't love you or
that i don't care anymore
you were an option i wanted to explore
it just wasn't meant to be
just like an off-tone melody
i need to put you out of your misery..
i showed you what you wanted to see
you never saw who was the real me
our destiny,, was not meant to be
wipe your tears away and hear me when i say
i want you to leave..
after all i did to be with you,
i believed my own lies
and now i apologize
i don't want to disguise
behind the masks, but now i realize
as you sail across the oceans
far away as it seems
i know that the tide will
bring you back home to me
don't worry about me
or how we're far apart
our promises that we're bound to keep
together is where our story ends, our song, our destinyyyyyyyyy
when pictures fade away
and moment passes by
our love remains the same
pours like the rain
don't worry about me
or how we're far apart
we knew the end right from the start
our promises that we're bound to keep
