Sekouba "Bambino" Diabate - Lanaya (1994)
Sekouba "Bambino: Diabate - Lanaya. From the album Syli National. Wikipedia: Sekouba "Bambino" Diabaté is the stage name of Sekouba Diabaté, a singer and musician born in Guinea, West Africa in 1964. Bambino was born and raised in the village of Kintinya, some 25 kilometers from the town of Siguiri, close to the border with Mali. He was born into a musical family, and is descended from a long line of griot people, known in some Mande languages as jeli. His mother died when he was three years old, but left behind a legacy in the songs she had recorded which her son later heard on the radio. Her music became one of his main influences. Her death left Bambino with his father, who did not encourage his musical aspirations, hoping he would follow him working in his transport company, but from age eight, Bambino Diabaté sang with local bands and began to achieve musical renown. When he was 16, then-President Sékou Touré, (a music lover) who had heard him sing with local bands, insisted that he join Bembeya Jazz, Guinea's best-known musical group. Thus, in 1983, at the age of 19, Diabaté was asked to join Bembeya Jazz, Guinea's best-known musical group. He was given the nickname "Bambino" to distinguish him from one of the group's guitarists also named Sekou Diabaté (aka Sekou "Bembeya" aka "Diamond Fingers"). With Bembeya Jazz, the young vocalist undertook his first tour of Africa in 1985 and toured Europe the following year. Sekouba Bambino released his first solo recording in ...

Dalip BBS feat. Elvis & Robby - Prast Pale Mande (Romani Gypsy dance music)
Artist: Dalip Bum Bastick Style feat. Elvis & Robby Song: Prast Pale Mande Language: Romani A Romani re-work of the super hit song "You know you want me" by the world famous Cuban American rap artist by the name of Pitbull. The Romani language is of the Indo-Aryan language group and originates from the Rajasthan & Panjab regions of NW India (most probably the Thar Desert region) Romani is comparable to Rajasthani & Panjabi to this day using the Rajasthani grammar of 'o' at the end of masculine words (unlike Hindi and most other similar Indian language which us 'a'). The Romani left India in approx 1026ad due to Islamic invasion into the lands. It is believed the Romani were Indian military and they made a journey that took less than 30 years where they are reported as arriving into the Byzantine Empire of what is now Turkey. They lived here amongst Greek speaking Byzantines and Armenian refugees before then moving across into Europe in approx' 1300ad.

The 1st movement retraces the steps of Ablaye Cissoko’s ancestor, the legendary griot Kimintang Cissoko (Dially Mady Wouling), as he invents the African lute-harp nearly a thousand years ago in form of an interactive multimedia performance.
Ablaye Cissoko tells the mythical creation story of the kora in his mother language Mandinka. The story is recounted by griots throughout West Africa and confirms Ablaye Cissoko as a living, breathing decedent of a mythical person.

Mande Symphony - 3rd Movement - Dance (Preview)
On October 13 - 2011, Goetze and Cissoko will appear at Culturehub in NYC, in the debut performance of their Mande Symphony, a multi-media event that will feature the duo along with a string quartet, the much lauded Richie Barshay (Chick Corea, Esperanza Spaulding) on drums, and computer-modulated video created by visualist Joshue Ott.
The Mande Symphony tells the legendary story of a Mande griot, Kimmintang CIssoko, from the time he prayed that he could help alleviate the suffering of his people through his encounters with African spirits and genies that ultimately led him to create the African kora.
Mandinka, the language of the Mande people, is a tonal language, making it ideal for musical adaption. The tonal sound provides a base for notated, rhythmic sound that provokes improvisational passages from the orchestra.
During the performance, sampled speech and music will be sent to a computer, where Joshue Ott will modulate their effect on stunning visuals from South Africa, in real time. Ott creates a carefully crafted dialectic between the aural and visual experience; his artistic intention is to evoke some sense of the powerful African spirit underlying the Kimmitang story in a way that makes it accessible and powerful to a Western audience.
Mande Symphony is made possible in part with public funds from the NY State Council on the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, The Manhattan Community Arts Fund, supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
