The 1958 Belgian Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held on 15 June 1958 at Spa-Francorchamps. It was the 19th Belgian Grand Prix and it was held over 24 laps of the 14 kilometre circuit for a race distance of 339 kilometres.
The Belgian Grand Prix returned to the calendar after being off the calendar the year previous, and the 8.7 mile Spa circuit had been slightly modified. The pits had been rebuilt, the pit straight had been widened and straightened and the entire track had been resurfaced. The race distance had been shortened from 36 to 24 laps.
The race was won by British driver Tony Brooks in a Vanwall. It was Brooks first solo Grand Prix victory after his car won the1957 British Grand Prix in a shared driver with Stirling Moss. Brooks finished 20 seconds ahead of fellow Briton Mike Hawthorn driving a Ferrari 246 F1. Brooks' Vanwall team mate Stuart Lewis-Evans finished third in a career-best finish, the first of just two podium finishes to his short Grand Prix career. The race also marked the first World Championship race start (and finish) by a woman, Maria Teresa de Filippis driving her privately entered Maserati 250F. She finished tenth and last, two laps behind Brooks' Vanwall.
On the last lap, Tony Brooks came out of La Source to end the race, and his gearbox seized as he crossed the line. WhenMike Hawthorn was coming out of the same corner to end his race in second, his engine failed as he was coming to the finish line. Stuart Lewis-Evans's suspension collapsed on the way into La Source, and he crawled to the line in third.

During British GP 2014 weekend, Sky Sports F1 team made a tribuite video about Vanwall Team. In 1957 Vanwall VW 5 became the first British-built car to win a World Championship race, and later in 1958 they secured the first place in the Constructors Championship with Stilng Moss, Tony Brooks and Stuart Lewis-Evans behind the wheel.

This has got to be one of the saddest moments of a persons departure ever recorded. The event was the 1973 Dutch grand prix at the Zandvoort circuit in the Netherlands and the driver was Roger Williamson.
It was only Williamsons’ second formula one appearance after his debut at the British grand prix. As he was on his 8th lap, it’s thought that a tire failure caused his car to flip upside down and catch fire. Although he was not seriously injured by the accident it’s self he was trapped under the car as it was engulfed in flames.......
On April 15th 1989 a football match between Liverpool and Nottingham forest at the Hillsborough stadium in Sheffield, England would turn in to the worst stadium disaster in English sports history and one of the worst football disasters in the world. BBC cameras were televising the match and the unfolding disaster was broadcast live to millions across the United Kingdom.
On that day 96 people were crushed to death and 766 injured.
The match was the FA Cup semi final and because of the reputation for football violence at the time between the fans of different clubs, a neutral venue was chosen. The opposing fans were sectioned off from each other by fencing them in pens and contributed the problems that would ensue.
The crush occurred in the section allocated to the Liverpool fans, the entry to which was via only 1 of 7 old turnstiles. This led to dangerous overcrowding outside the stadium for those trying to get in before the match started..........
The challenger space shuttle disaster of January 28th 1986 not only ended the lives of the 7 crew but also dealt a huge blow to the NASA and American national pride.
The shuttle took off from cape Canaveral, Florida on an unusually cold January morning after days of delays and technical issues. The makers of the Solid rocket boosters (SRBs), Morton Thiokol were concerned that the O rings that sealed the joints of the would not work correctly in the cold conditions on the morning of the launch.
They held discussions with NASA managers and urged the mission be postponed but the NASA staff already frustrated by the large number of previous delays opposed it even though the O-rings in question were a Criticality 1 component, meaning that if they failed there were no backups and their failure would mean the destruction of the entire craft and the loss of all on board.......
On august 22nd 2015 a Hawker Hunter T7 vintage jet aircraft was performing at the shoreham air display at Shoreham airport, when as it was completing a loop maneuver it failed to pull up in time and crashed on to a busy main road running next to the airport.
Its was the worst British airshow disaster since an accident at the 1952 Farnborough Airshow that killed 29 spectators......
The 24 hour le mans crash of 1955 in France has gone down as the deadliest crash in motor racing history and it was also caught on film.
In 1955 the le mans track was pretty much the same as it was when it first opened in 1923 but back then car were only capable of 60 mph and by 1955 the race cars of the day were achieving up to 190mph and its this which had a major contribution to the death toll.......

Jules Bianchi’s crash at Suzuka this year reminded all the F1 community that our sport is dangerous. We all fell asleep with this fact, but the danger was always part of the game and will always be a problem in motorsport. Year by year is better and better but F1 will never be completely safe. Many drivers escaped from the crashes but not everyone was so lucky. 27 drivers lost their lives for that, what their loved. The world will remember what they have given to motorsport….

Stuart Lewis-Evans
Stuart Nigel Lewis-Evans (20 April 1930, Luton, Bedfordshire – 25 October 1958, East Grinstead, Sussex) was a British racing driver from England. He participated in 14 Formula One World Championship Grands Prix, debuting on 19 May 1957. He achieved two podiums, and scored a total of 16 championship points. He also achieved two pole positions.
Career
Lewis-Evans began racing in 1951 with a Cooper 500 Formula 3 car, encouraged by and sometimes racing against his father, Lewis "Pop" Evans. He achieved many wins and podia and continued to race in 500s until 1956.
In his first Formula One race, the 1957 Monaco Grand Prix, Lewis-Evans finished fourth in an inferior Connaught Type B, beaten only by multiple winners Fangio and Brooks, and Masten Gregory in one of the dominant Maserati 250F cars. This performance brought him to the attention of Tony Vandervell, owner of the rising Vanwall team, and by the next Grand Prix Lewis-Evans was driving the third Vanwall. The 1957 Vanwall was fast when its engine held together, but not always reliable. Lewis-Evans took his first F1 win at the year's non-championship Moroccan Grand Prix, and pole position at the final World Championship event, the Italian Grand Prix.

Formula One
Formula One (also Formula 1 or F1) is the highest class of single-seat auto racing that is sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The FIA Formula One World Championship has been the premier form of racing since the inaugural season in 1950, although other Formula One races were regularly held until 1983. The "formula", designated in the name, refers to a set of rules, to which all participants' cars must conform. The F1 season consists of a series of races, known as Grands Prix (from French, originally meaning great prizes), held throughout the world on purpose-built F1 circuits and public roads.
The results of each race are evaluated using a points system to determine two annual World Championships, one for drivers, one for constructors. The racing drivers are required to be holders of valid Super Licences, the highest class of racing licence issued by the FIA. The races are required to be held on tracks graded 1 (formerly A), the highest grade a track can receive by the FIA. Most events are held in rural locations on purpose-built tracks, but there are several events in city centres throughout the world, with the Monaco Grand Prix being the most obvious and famous example.

Roger Williamson
Roger Williamson (2 February 1948 – 29 July 1973) was a British racing driver who died during the 1973 Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort Circuit in the Netherlands.
Biography
Williamson was born in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire. He won the 1971 and 1972 British Formula 3 Championship titles. In 1973, he was offered a drive in the March Engineering works Formula One team. This was after testing for the BRM team and being advised not to take the drive.

Belgian Grand Prix
The Belgian Grand Prix (Dutch: Grote Prijs van België; French: Grand Prix de Belgique; German: Großer Preis von Belgien) is an automobile race, part of the Formula One World Championship. The first national race of Belgium was held in 1925 at the Spa region's race course, an area of the country that had been associated with motor sport since the very early years of racing. To accommodate Grand Prix motor racing, the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps race course was built in 1921 but it was only used for motorcycle racing until 1924. After the 1923 success of the new 24 hours of Le Mans in France, the Spa 24 Hours, a similar 24-hour endurance race, was run at the Spa track.
Since inception, Spa-Francorchamps has been known for its unpredictable weather. At one stage in its history it had rained at the Belgian Grand Prix for twenty years in a row. Frequently drivers confront a part of the course that is clear and bright while another stretch is rainy and slippery.
The Belgian Grand Prix was designated the European Grand Prix six times between 1925 and 1973, when this title was an honorary designation given each year to one grand prix race in Europe. It is one of the most popular races on the Formula One calendar, due to the scenic and historical Spa-Francorchamps circuit being a favorite of drivers and fans.

1958 Belgian Grand Prix
The 1958 Belgian Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held on 15 June 1958 at Spa-Francorchamps. It was the 19th Belgian Grand Prix and it was held over 24 laps of the 14 kilometre circuit for a race distance of 339 kilometres. The Belgian Grand Prix returned to the calendar after being off the calendar the year previous, and the 8.7 mile Spa circuit had been slightly modified. The pits had been rebuilt, the pit straight had been widened and straightened and the entire track had been resurfaced. The race distance had been shortened from 36 to 24 laps. The race was won by British driver Tony Brooks in a Vanwall. It was Brooks first solo Grand Prix victory after his car won the1957 British Grand Prix in a shared driver with Stirling Moss. In this video we look at 5 fatalities caught live on camera. http://curious-droid.com/gec2 This has got to be one of the saddest moments of a persons departure ever recorded. The event was the 1973 Dutch grand prix at the Zandvoort circuit in the Netherlands and the driver was Roger Williamson. It was only Williamsons’ second formula one appearance after his debut at the British grand prix. As he was on his 8th lap, it’s thought that a tire failure caused his car to flip upside down and catch fire. The race also marked the first World Championship race start (and finish) by a woman, Maria Teresa de Filippis driving her privately entered Maserati 250F. She finished tenth and last, two laps behind Brooks' Vanwall.
On the last lap, Tony Brooks came out of La Source to end the race, and his gearbox seized as he crossed the line. WhenMike Hawthorn was coming out of the same corner to end his race in second, his engine failed as he was coming to the finish line. Stuart Lewis-Evans's suspension collapsed on the way into La Source, and he crawled to the line in third.

This has got to be one of the saddest moments of a persons departure ever recorded. The event was the 1973 Dutch grand prix at the Zandvoort circuit in the Netherlands and the driver was Roger Williamson.
It was only Williamsons’ second formula one appearance after his debut at the British grand prix. As he was on his 8th lap, it’s thought that a tire failure caused his car to flip upside down and catch fire. Although he was not seriously injured by the accident it’s self he was trapped under the car as it was engulfed in flames.......
On April 15th 1989 a football match between Liverpool and Nottingham forest at the Hillsborough stadium in Sheffield, England would turn in to the worst stadium disaster in English sports history and one of the worst football disasters in the world. BBC cameras were televising the match and the unfolding disaster was broadcast live to millions across the United Kingdom.
On that day 96 people were crushed to death and 766 injured.
The match was the FA Cup semi final and because of the reputation for football violence at the time between the fans of different clubs, a neutral venue was chosen. The opposing fans were sectioned off from each other by fencing them in pens and contributed the problems that would ensue.
The crush occurred in the section allocated to the Liverpool fans, the entry to which was via only 1 of 7 old turnstiles. This led to dangerous overcrowding outside the stadium for those trying to get in before the match started..........
The challenger space shuttle disaster of January 28th 1986 not only ended the lives of the 7 crew but also dealt a huge blow to the NASA and American national pride.
The shuttle took off from cape Canaveral, Florida on an unusually cold January morning after days of delays and technical issues. The makers of the Solid rocket boosters (SRBs), Morton Thiokol were concerned that the O rings that sealed the joints of the would not work correctly in the cold conditions on the morning of the launch.
They held discussions with NASA managers and urged the mission be postponed but the NASA staff already frustrated by the large number of previous delays opposed it even though the O-rings in question were a Criticality 1 component, meaning that if they failed there were no backups and their failure would mean the destruction of the entire craft and the loss of all on board.......
On august 22nd 2015 a Hawker Hunter T7 vintage jet aircraft was performing at the shoreham air display at Shoreham airport, when as it was completing a loop maneuver it failed to pull up in time and crashed on to a busy main road running next to the airport.
Its was the worst British airshow disaster since an accident at the 1952 Farnborough Airshow that killed 29 spectators......
The 24 hour le mans crash of 1955 in France has gone down as the deadliest crash in motor racing history and it was also caught on film.
In 1955 the le mans track was pretty much the same as it was when it first opened in 1923 but back then car were only capable of 60 mph and by 1955 the race cars of the day were achieving up to 190mph and its this which had a major contribution to the death toll.......

The Moroccan Grand Prix was a Formula 1 Grand Prix first organised in 1925 in Casablanca, Morocco with the official denomination of "Casablanca Grand Prix". 1958 was the last Grand Prix organized in Morocco, Stirling Moss win the championship but the race was marred by the death of Stuart Lewis-Evans who died in a London hospital of burn injuries six days after crashing heavily at the dusty circuit.

Aintree Circuit Club - Vanwall VW9 on original Grand Prix Circuit
This Vanwall VW9, with a special lightweight chassis originally, was built in 1957 but was not completed until 1958. This car was never subsequently raced, but was retained as a show car by Vandervell Products who owned and manufactured the cars. Driven today by Rick Hall (c/o Kevin Wheatcroft / Donington Grand Prix Collection) on the start/finish straight of the original Grand Prix circuit. The original VW4 that won at Aintree, was driven by Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks. This was the first occasion that a British-built car won a World Championship race, a feat achieved with two British drivers at their home Grand Prix. It was eventually destroyed (by owners Vandervell) when it crashed and caught fire in the Moroccan Grand Prix at Casablanca in 1958, with the driver, Stuart Lewis-Evans, ...

This Vanwall VW9, with a special lightweight chassis originally, was built in 1957 but was not completed until 1958. This car was never subsequently raced, but was retained as a show car by Vandervell Products who owned and manufactured the cars.
Driven today by Rick Hall (c/o Kevin Wheatcroft / Donington Grand Prix Collection) on the start/finish straight of the original Grand Prix circuit.
The original VW4 that won at Aintree, was driven by Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks. This was the first occasion that a British-built car won a World Championship race, a feat achieved with two British drivers at their home Grand Prix. The coach leaves the gates of the park it has been travelling through and comes out onto the road. The coach stops on a side road beside some houses; Lewis gets out and walks over to a row of veteran cars that are parked on a grass verge. He checks the fitments on a maroon-coloured car then walks over to an 1896 Benz Dog Cart and lifts the bonnet. M/S of a Silver Ghost Rolls Royce from 1911. C/U looking over Lewis' shoulder at the Benz engine running; he closes the lids and gets on it, changing his top hat for a bowler and drives off; in the background can be seen a large sign on a building for 'Lewis Evans Motors".
Commentator tells us Lewis' most active hobby is motor racing; we see Stuart son and a mechanic working on a Formula III 500 cc. Cooper at the Brands Hatch circuit; pan right to show Lewis arriving in his Dog Cart. He replaces his bowler hat with a crash helmet and takes off his coat. M/S of him getting into the racing car in his overalls as commentator tells us Stuart is a professional racing driver; Stuart and the mechanic push Lewis off in the racing car. Various shots of Lewis speeding around the track as Stuart times him.

1958 Belgian Grand Prix
The 1958 Belgian Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held on 15 June 1958 at Spa-Francorchamps. It was the 19th Belgian Grand Prix and it was held over 24 laps of the 14 kilometre circuit for a race distance of 339 kilometres. The Belgian Grand Prix returned to the calendar after being off the calendar the year previous, and the 8.7 mile Spa circuit had been slightly modified. The pits had been rebuilt, the pit straight had been widened and straightened and the entire track had been resurfaced. The race distance had been shortened from 36 to 24 laps. The race was won by British driver Tony Brooks in a Vanwall. It was Brooks first solo Grand Prix victory after his car won the1957 British Grand Prix in a shared driver with Stirling Moss. The 1958 Belgian Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held on 15 June 1958 at Spa-Francorchamps. It was the 19th Belgian Grand Prix and it was held over 24 laps of the 14 kilometre circuit for a race distance of 339 kilometres.
The Belgian Grand Prix returned to the calendar after being off the calendar the year previous, and the 8.7 mile Spa circuit had been slightly modified. The pits had been rebuilt, the pit straight had been widened and straightened and the entire track had been resurfaced. The race distance had been shortened from 36 to 24 laps.
The race was won by British driver Tony Brooks in a Vanwall. It was Brooks first solo Grand Prix victory after his car won the1957 British Grand Prix in a shared driver with Stirling Moss. Brooks finished 20 seconds ahead of fellow Briton Mike Hawthorn driving a Ferrari 246 F1. Brooks' Vanwall team mate Stuart Lewis-Evans finished third in a career-best finish, the first of just two podium finishes to his short Grand Prix career. The race also marked the first World Championship race start (and finish) by a woman, Maria Teresa de Filippis driving her privately entered Maserati 250F. She finished tenth and last, two laps behind Brooks' Vanwall.
On the last lap, Tony Brooks came out of La Source to end the race, and his gearbox seized as he crossed the line. WhenMike Hawthorn was coming out of the same corner to end his race in second, his engine failed as he was coming to the finish line. Stuart Lewis-Evans's suspension collapsed on the way into La Source, and he crawled to the line in third.

This has got to be one of the saddest moments of a persons departure ever recorded. The event was the 1973 Dutch grand prix at the Zandvoort circuit in the Netherlands and the driver was Roger Williamson.
It was only Williamsons’ second formula one appearance after his debut at the British grand prix. As he was on his 8th lap, it’s thought that a tire failure caused his car to flip upside down and catch fire. Although he was not seriously injured by the accident it’s self he was trapped under the car as it was engulfed in flames.......
On April 15th 1989 a football match between Liverpool and Nottingham forest at the Hillsborough stadium in Sheffield, England would turn in to the worst stadium disaster in English sports history and one of the worst football disasters in the world. BBC cameras were televising the match and the unfolding disaster was broadcast live to millions across the United Kingdom.
On that day 96 people were crushed to death and 766 injured.
The match was the FA Cup semi final and because of the reputation for football violence at the time between the fans of different clubs, a neutral venue was chosen. The opposing fans were sectioned off from each other by fencing them in pens and contributed the problems that would ensue.
The crush occurred in the section allocated to the Liverpool fans, the entry to which was via only 1 of 7 old turnstiles. This led to dangerous overcrowding outside the stadium for those trying to get in before the match started..........
The challenger space shuttle disaster of January 28th 1986 not only ended the lives of the 7 crew but also dealt a huge blow to the NASA and American national pride.
The shuttle took off from cape Canaveral, Florida on an unusually cold January morning after days of delays and technical issues. The makers of the Solid rocket boosters (SRBs), Morton Thiokol were concerned that the O rings that sealed the joints of the would not work correctly in the cold conditions on the morning of the launch.
They held discussions with NASA managers and urged the mission be postponed but the NASA staff already frustrated by the large number of previous delays opposed it even though the O-rings in question were a Criticality 1 component, meaning that if they failed there were no backups and their failure would mean the destruction of the entire craft and the loss of all on board.......
On august 22nd 2015 a Hawker Hunter T7 vintage jet aircraft was performing at the shoreham air display at Shoreham airport, when as it was completing a loop maneuver it failed to pull up in time and crashed on to a busy main road running next to the airport.
Its was the worst British airshow disaster since an accident at the 1952 Farnborough Airshow that killed 29 spectators......
The 24 hour le mans crash of 1955 in France has gone down as the deadliest crash in motor racing history and it was also caught on film.
In 1955 the le mans track was pretty much the same as it was when it first opened in 1923 but back then car were only capable of 60 mph and by 1955 the race cars of the day were achieving up to 190mph and its this which had a major contribution to the death toll.......

We all fell asleep with this fact, but the danger was always part of the game and will always be a problem in motorsport. Year by year is better and better but F1 will never be completely safe. Many drivers escaped from the crashes but not everyone was so lucky. 27 drivers lost their lives for that, what their loved. The world will remember what they have given to motorsport….

Kicking off the Fest on October 18 is THE SHUNNED HOUSE, adapted and directed by Kai Morrison, with original music by Kai Morrison. The saga of an ancestral home plagued by some mysterious force that drains the life of those who live there, this classic re-imagining of the vampire tale and the haunted house story eschews cliche at every twist to culminate in an unexpected and memorable climax. The cast includes Sara Eve Breindel, Stefin Collins, Lindsay Cookson, Tom Darter, AJ Davenport, Juliana Egley, Matthew Ingle, Rik Lopes, and Ross Murray with music written by Morrison and violinist Sean Malroy, performed by Malroy. Special musical guest The Sweet Trade after the show!
October 19 features three shorts: PICKMAN'S MODEL, adapted and directed by Nathan Tucker; THE HOUND, adapted by Ignacio Zulueta and directed by Joe Jordan; and THE CALL OF CTHULHU, adapted and directed by Nirmala Nataraj. Each gruesome tale turns on a secret best left undiscovered: What is the source of Pickman's macabre artistic inspiration? What happens when a graverobbing duo digs up more than they can handle? The cast features: Meg Cohen, Aoife Davis, Alex Hersler, Christopher P. Kelly, Dan Kurtz, Carl Lucania, Brian Martin, Hector Osario, Cassie Powell, Leigh Shaw.
All shows start at 8 PM and are free, though a five dollar donation is suggested. Get there early as we tend to fill up quickly!
