BIODIVERSITY: New Reptil Species of Sphaerodactylus (Sauria: Gekkonidae) Identified in Lesser Caribbean, from the southeastern coast of Martinique July 2013 "Ti Mabouya santana" emerge from the peninsula of SAINTE-ANNE MARTINIQUE , Sphaerodactylus santana, a new species by Marcel BOURGADE / Guardian of Natural Park of Martinique ABSTRACT. The new species of Sphaerodactylus is described from the Southeastern coast of Martinique (Peninsulia of SAINTE-ANNE). Both are members of a S. martinicensis original group; knowing that really the historic and geologic cradle of S. "vincenti" group is the same locality of Martinique. The new species inhabit coastal xerophile vegetation, and recifal calcite biotope, and they are distinguished from the members of the "vincenti" group in all the south of Martinique by a pattern with marks on the back in transverse bands (alternated dark brown / light brown) extended on ribs by more or less rounded off side spots in adults males, females and juveniles, by scapular ocelli marking, by coloration, and by strangely the marbled head, and by strangely the tint grey white with the chin and with the throat (unique compared with other Ti Mabouya Sphaerodactylus ssp. in the South of Martinique which all have chin and yellow throat) , by the shape, color and the structure of scales of the bottom of the tail, by the iris is grey-blue ... Key words: Sauria, Gekkonidae, Sphaerodactylus, new species, Ti Mabouya, Martinique, SAINTE-ANNE, Lesser Caribbean. (...) CONCLUSION. The name Ti Mabouya santana means small gekkonidae of SAINTE-ANNE, but the herpetologist team would must give the animal a formal scientific name too, for this new martinican Sphaerodactylus sp. The species martinican name, Mabouya, means "invisible, malignant, mysterious being of the night in language of the natural of America (first peoples having lived in Martinique come from Amazonia: Siboney,..., Arawak, Kalina). In conclusion, what distinguishes Martinique (as for diversity of the landscapes) compared with other nearby islands of the oriental Caribbean arc, it is the fact that it contains majority of money subspecies of said Sphaerodactylus vincenti ssp. which are endemic her, but whose taxonomy makes nevertheless reference to St-Vincent, to the subspecies of Sphaerodactylus vincenti vincenti which was referenced for the first time by English-speaking specialists in herpetology in 1891. Let us say that the "pre-existence" of peninsulas of the Caravel and more Sainte-Anne ( former old arc) in biological connections with Amazonian pond (the South America), overestimates a presence of Sphaerodactylus sp. on ground of persistent primal Martinique compared with that on islands in the South of Martinique of Grenada, Grenadines, of Saint Vincent, and Saint Lucia, where the parts emerged from the former(old arc) were covered by volcanic activities of the intermediate then recent arcs stacked for these islands. One of the Amerindians people native of Amazonia, the ultimate in the Caribbean before european presence, the Kalina (or Carib) going back up of island in island oriental Caraibe most probably observed this difference as for diversity of lizards for Martinique compared with islands further south; having passed to Trinidad, Tobago, Grenada, islands Grenadines, St Vincent, St Lucia, landing in Martinique they named him Gwanakaéra: literally the island where there are a lot of lizards (means reptils : Igwana / Anolis/Mabouya/ Ti Mabouya /...)!
