Ultimate commuter bike
This is the bicycle I equipped for commuting last year. I love this bike, and ride it to work year round in Chicago in all weather. I bought the frameset used on Craigslist and built this commuter bicycle from ground up. I am a pretty demanding bike commuter who has owned 7 bicycles in the past 4 years, but this is my all time favorite bike. Please post a comment, 'like' this video and subscribe to my channel! I'll be posting more excellent cycling-related videos here. The frame on this bike is a Fuji Touring, and was pretty scratched up when I got it since the last owner had used it for cyclocross racing. My build has more of a touring / commuting / utility bike character. Despite the surface scratches, it is a solid, heavy-duty frame made of cromoly 4130 steel. This Fuji is a true touring bike and it excels at hauling weight. I wouldn't hesitate to ride it across the US (or anywhere else for that matter). Since the original finish of the bike had been damaged before I bought it, I didn't mind adding some red spray paint to 'uglify' it to make theft less likely (I lock this bicycle to bike racks all over Chicago...). These are some of the components: Fuji Touring, Elios 2 Cromoly frame Dura Ace bar end shifters Velocity Dyad rims DT Swiss Competition spokes 2.0/1.8 Shimano Deore XT hubs Schwalbe Marathon tires Brooks Champion Flyer saddle Tubus Logo rear rack Aluminum front racks Update: I recently bought and installed Velo Orange safety skewers to add some extra ...

Utility cycling in the snow, Utrecht (Netherlands)
On this sunny Monday afternoon in December 2010 the roads were covered with heavy snow. But people in the Netherlands keep on using their bicycles as much as possible. Although there are fewer cyclists because of the snow, still many of the Dutch prefer to take their bike for their usual journeys even in these conditions. If cycling is for utility reasons you are less likely to change your behavior because of the weather. Normally the protected cycle paths are well cleared of snow. But this time only a few main routes were fully clear of snow and ice. That was also the case for the car lanes. The city seemed taken by surprise by the very early Winter. Madsen Utility Cycle - first ride
Full review at familycycler.com Our first family ride on the new Madsen. I held the bike seat when they unloaded because I didn't know what the kickstand could support. Let's just say I don't hold it anymore. We love this bike.

Changing to a sit up
Visit my bicycle art web site. situp-bike-art.com. My blog is called sit-up cycle.com because I believe that riding such bikes is a big part of the answer to increasing utility cycling in Australia. For some reason, after the racing cyclist with their drop bars, the rest of the country has been stuck on flat bar bikes like Hilary's, and for no good reason

Lynskey Performance Titanium Single-Speed Bike at Interbike
What if you want a really light single-speed bike that you can use for commuting, shopping, and general cycling? Lynskey brought a ti utility bike to Interbike. It is pricey, but some people would rather pony up some coin once than continue to lug their back-breaking 50 lb commuter with racks, fenders, groceries, etc. up and down stairs and across subway platforms. GeoTime Webinar: Cycling data in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.
GeoTime Webinar Series: Cycling data in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK., with Dr. Seraphim Alvanides & Godwin Yeboah of Northumbria University. This presentation discusses methodological issues encountered during a recent Global Positioning System (GPS) based personal travel survey on everyday utility cycling around Newcastle upon Tyne. Participants (ie, Utility Cyclists) carried the GPS device for one week (7 days) while filling self-administered questionnaire forms. Utility cycling is defined as any (bi) cycling which is not done primarily for fitness, recreation such as cycle touring, or sport such as cycle racing, but simply as a means of transport. This work is, in part, a response to existing calls, from literature, for further research to incorporate the investigation and discovery of cyclist's perception and experiences (Skinner & Rose, 2007; Forsyth & Krizek, 2011); to support urban designers as well as cycling policy interventions and transportation engineers and thereby increase cycling uptake. The results of the survey are presented. Additionally, preliminary results of using GeoTime with ArcGIS technologies to map and visualized the collected data are discussed.

On Wonosari Trail Using A Chinese Single Speed City Bike, No BS ! ;-}
It's a fun bicycling activity I held as an entertainment to my builders team (who's been working hard restoring my house in Surabaya); took place on a trail in the forest of Mount Malang and Mount Mujur, Wonosari, East Java. One of my builders wished to endure it with a single speed PHOENIX roadster bike he owns, and he did it zealously, so did the bike. PHOENIX bikes are a humble, honest and consistent Asian legend since 1960s. Humble because the manufacturing company never boast anything more than assuring that it is made in China. Honest because it serves as it is supposed to perform, and indeed even more. Consistent because since its beginning, it is a Chinese brand made in China by Chinese people. Just as Polygon bikes to Indonesian people; an Indonesian brand made in Indonesia by Indonesian people. That's why when the builder propose his idea with his Phoenix, I merely answered: "Well, that is no BS!" No XC blasphemy intended! * Taken with GoPro HD camera. Edited with Windows 7 Movie Maker. Music: modified "Leaving on a Jet Plane", performed by Orkes Sinten Remen.

What defines Dutch cycling?
Cycling is similar all over the world... or is it? Even in utility cycling the Dutch have some cycling habits that are quite exceptional. What defines Dutch cycling? A lighthearted look at cycling in the Netherlands. A society will only develop habits like these when people do not have to worry about safety. The cycling Dutch are safe because of the excellent cycling infrastructure the country has to offer. More examples about that in the other videos on this channel.
