Spiritualized-Angel Sigh (From Medication EP)
Lazer Guided Melodies was the first album by the British space rock group Spiritualized. Recorded by the inaugural line up of the band, consisting of Jason Pierce (vocals, guitars), Mark Refoy (guitars), Will Carruthers (bass), Jonny Mattock (drums) and Kate Radley (keyboards). The album was recorded, mostly in VHF studios in Rugby, from 1990 to 1991, and mixed by Pierce in London. The album was first released on Dedicated Records in May 1992, on cassette, Compact Disc and Vinyl (2 x LP, with initial copies containing an additional free 7"). The album builds on band leader Jason Pierce's contributions to Recurring, the final album by his previous band Spacemen 3, and further refines his approach to song craft (the creation of complex, intricate pieces from simple, repetitive phrases). Particular highlights are the opening, largely acoustic lullaby, "You Know It's True", the chiming guitars of "If I Were with Her Now" (used in a Toffee Crisp advert in the nineties), the bass-heavy "Take Your Time", "Shine a Light" (the latter two both Spiritualized concert staples to this day), and the closing "200 Bars", in which keyboard player Kate Radley counts up the bars as the song progresses. Elsewhere, "Run" uses lyrics from JJ Cale's "They Call Me the Breeze" (Lynyrd Skynyrd released a famous cover). Also not fully a Pierce composition is "Sway", written largely by guitarist Mark Refoy, who left Spiritualized shortly after the release of the album to found Slipstream. Initially ...

Spiritualized-All of My Tears
Pure Phase is the second album by Spiritualized, released in 1995. The album was recorded in the Moles Studio in Bath, and features contributions from The Balanescu Quartet. Initial CD copies were sold in a glow-in-the-dark, encapsulated CD case. The album was credited to "Spiritualized Electric Mainline": Jason Pierce stated at the time that Spiritualized were actually called "Spiritualized Lazer Guided Melodies", so titled after their debut, and nearly called them "Spiritualized Rocket Shaped Songs" for their next album, but soon rejected the latter idea. The lineup fluctuated during recording, with the band eventually reduced to a core trio of Jason Pierce, Kate Radley and Sean Cook. Previous members Mark Refoy and Jonny Mattock performed the main guitar and drums sections respectively, but by the time of album release, both men had been sacked from the band. The track "Born Never Asked" is a cover of a song by Laurie Anderson. The track "Pure Phase" was the basis for a limited edition release called "Pure Phase Tones For DJ's", which consisted of 16 versions of "Pure Phase", four on each side of the single, playable at both 33 and 45rpm. The tracks were in the keys of C/F; D/G; E/A; F/B-flat; G/C; A/D; B/E; and C/F, at varying frequencies. Pierce intended that they were to be used as a set, in order to make chords. Spiritualized-All of My Thoughts
Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space is the third studio album by Spiritualized, released in June 1997, and features guest appearances from the Balanescu Quartet, The London Community Gospel Choir and Dr. John. The title of the album is taken from the philosophical novel Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder, the context being: "Only philosophers embark on this perilous expedition to the outermost reaches of language and existence. Some of them fall off, but others cling on desperately and yell at the people nestling deep in the snug softness, stuffing themselves with delicious food and drink. 'Ladies and Gentlemen,' they yell, 'we are floating in space!' But none of the people down there care."[3][4] The album itself was written shortly after the breakup of Spiritualized's Jason Pierce and Kate Radley, the band's keyboard player. Radley had secretly married Richard Ashcroft of The Verve in 1995.[5][6] Original pressings had an alternative version of the title track, incorporating the lyrics and melody of Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling in Love."[7] The Presley estate initially objected to this, and a remixed version of the track was included on the commercial release, with new lyrics. However, Spiritualized continue to use both sets of lyrics in live performances. By 2009, they were allowed to use the version of the song with the Presley lyrics on the reissued edition of the album, with the proviso that the song is now titled "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are ...

SPIRITUALIZED - Cool Waves (lyrics included, 1997)
SPIRITUALIZED - Cool Waves (lyrics included, 1997)
A cool and really brilliant song by J. Spaceman, included in Spiritualized excellent third studio album "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space", released in June 1997. The album features guest appearances from the Balanescu Quartet, The London Community Gospel Choir and Dr. John. Spiritualized are an English space rock band formed in 1990 in Rugby, Warwickshire by Jason Pierce (who often goes by the alias J. Spaceman) after the demise of his previous outfit, space-rockers Spacemen 3. The membership of Spiritualized has changed from album to album, with Pierce — who writes, composes and sings all of the band's material — being the only constant member. Following a breakdown in relations between Spacemen 3 co-frontmen Peter Kember and Jason Pierce, the group's bassist Will Carruthers, drummer Jonny Mattock, and guitarist Mark Refoy were asked by Pierce to form a new group alongside local friend Steve Evans, subsequently calling themselves Spiritualized. The band took their name from an adaptation of the text on the back label of a bottle of Pernod. Due to formation from a majority of Spacemen 3 members, a technical clause meant that Spiritualized had to maintain the Spacemen 3 recording contract with Dedicated Records. Spiritualized * Jason Pierce -- vocals, guitars (Fender Stratocaster, Fender Jaguar, Vox Starstream, Gibson Firebird), hammered dulcimer, piano, autoharp * Kate Radley -- organs (Farfisa Compact, Vox Continental), piano, Roland D-20 synthesizer ...
