Fish Licence
The Fish Licence is part one of a two-part segment of the popular British television series, Monty Python's Flying Circus. Eric Praline, played by John Cleese, takes on the role of the put-upon customer who, when seeking to obtain a licence for his pet halibut, Eric, has difficulty explaining to the clerk (Michael Palin) how all pets should be licenced. The pets he mentions are:
This is one of the three appearances by Eric Praline, along with the Dead Parrot sketch and a brief appearance as a link the 5th episode of the second series, "Live from the Grill-o-Mat".
The clerk repeatedly calls Praline a 'loony', to which Praline angrily replies by making reference to famous people who kept odd pets. Praline remarks that he has licences for his pet dog Eric and his pet cat Eric. When the clerk says there is no such thing as a cat licence, Praline produces a dog licence form with the word "dog" crossed out and "cat" written in crayon, and explains that the man from the cat detector van (a parody of the TV detector van), which comes from the "Ministry of Housinge", didn't have the right form. Praline paid £60 for the cat licence, and 8 guineas for Eric the fruit bat.
When the clerk assures Praline there is no such thing as (and no need for) a fish licence, Praline requests a statement to that fact signed by the Lord Mayor; whereupon the superhumanly tall Lord Mayor (Graham Chapman), surrounded by his equally gigantic entourage, enters the office and hands a thunderstuck Praline the signed statement. An announcer (also Cleese) narrates the exchange, ending by saying that Praline has "gone spare".

For the past 6 years this little town has had a Redneck Fishing Tournament. Bath sits along the Illinois River and is battling the Asian Carp which has choked out native fish to the region. Only 2 rules for the redneck participants. Everyone catching the fish must have a valid Fishing Licence and " NO FISHING POLES ALLOWED". Hundreds of people from all over the Country and some of other Countries take part in this event. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes while netting the fish.

April 12th, 2008 news release by the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC: VANCOUVER -- Lower Mainland residents will be able to enjoy three unique urban fishing opportunities this spring and summer thanks to the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC's new Fishing in the City program. "We know that sometimes it's difficult to get out of the city to go fishing, so this year we're bringing enhanced fishing opportunities into the city," said FFSBC Vice-President Brian Chan. As part of the Fishing in the City program, the FFSBC will be conducting enhanced trout stocking activities at Rice Lake in North Vancouver and Lafarge and Como lakes in Coquitlam. These repeated stocking activities will ensure that the three lakes offer excellent fishing opportunities for shore-based anglers throughout the spring and early summer, and again in the fall. Working in partnership with local governments, the FFSBC will also erect special on-site signage providing additional information to anglers. "While the society stocks dozens of lakes across the Lower Mainland, we hope that these three lakes will offer new fishing opportunities for young and novice anglers or those who want to get back into the sport" said program coordinator Stacy Webb. "Children under the age of 16 can fish for free, and we've even reserved fishing at Como Lake for children and seniors." Saw a very traditional looking Londoner fishing into the River Thames from the Bank outside Royal Festival Hall. Not too far from Waterloo Station. It is a very unusual sight so I thought I'd share this moment with everyone on You Tube. Apparently there are 115 species of fish in the Thames. In England you need a Rod Licence to go fishing anywhere. The most expensive Licence is £72 issued by the Environment Agency. The cheapest is a day licence which costs £3.75. There are still soem shops in London selling Eels from the Thames.

Another Credit Crunching Free Venue in Cheshire. In this Episode Harry and Andy fish for the day at the un-named water. Harry has a ripping run and lands a nice Common Carp. We take a look at the effects that the harsh winter has had on King Georges pool, featured in Episode 9, and Dave nets a lovely 25lb Mirror Carp, down in Oxford, at Richworth Linear Fisheries where the World Carp Championship Final is being held 2010. A hot July day is perfect for spending a few hours at a local lake catching trout for dinner. We bought fishing gear while in the US, great price at Walmart, and BC resident angler license back home for $40.00 each with HST. Great way for families to spend time together although the cost of fishing licenses and boat operator licenses might keep some people away. We are very regulated in Canada and nickled and dimed by our own government at every turn, just to compare I checked the price of resident angler licence in Washington and it is $24.00 dollars. With lower fuel cost, we averaged $2.99 a gallon, lower gear cost, lower food and accommodations costs is it a wonder that Americans are staying away from Canada and that the border crossings to the US from Canada have hours of line ups as Canadians escape our high prices. The song followed the routine called "Fish Licence" in which Mr Eric Praline, played by John Cleese, tried to obtain a pet licence for a halibut and numerous other pets, all called Eric. One such pet is half a bee. The song relates a tragic yet heartwarming tale, stemming from an accident on one summer's afternoon. The lyrics raise philosophical questions as to the existence or not of half a bee: "Half a bee, philosophically, must ipso facto half not be. But half the bee has got to be vis-à-vis its entity - d'you see? But can a bee be said to be or not to be an entire bee when half the bee is not a bee due to some ancient injury?" It is one of John Cleese's personal favorites of the sketches that he has done

Sipping Pimms and gobbling canapés many of the guests expressed confusion at whether these striking actions were 'art' or not. Despite inaccurate reporting in various media outlets, Liberate Tate would like to claim full responsibility for these acts of creative disobedience as art - art that refuses to pretend to do politics but is politics, art that makes transforming the world a beautiful adventure. The Tate Summer Party had been planned to be in the museum gardens and involve speeches from BP executives. However, due to the rumours of disruption, Tate was forced to hold the entire event inside the museum and no speeches were made. As the evening sun baked down on the stone courtyard of Tate Britain and members of the cultural and corporate elite made their way into the party, 13 figures dressed in black, their faces veiled, appeared from around the corner. In a mournful procession the art-activists approached the entrance carrying large barrels branded with the BP logo.
