Mid view of Gostin with reporter STORYLINE: The team of two doctors who want to start cloning humans say they are ready to go ahead with their plan in November. A Rome-based fertility specialist and a US based IVF specialist are expected to officially announce on Tuesday that they plan to start cloning human embryos before the end of the year. In already published reports, Doctor Severino Antinori said that 13-hundred couples in America, mostly in Kentucky, and 200 others in Italy are candidates for his research. Antinori, a fertility specialist famous for helping women conceive after menopause, is among several scientists who have begun work cloning and harvesting human cells. Such work has fueled a divisive ethical debate that was sparked when Dolly the sheep was cloned in 1997. The pending announcement has already caused a storm of protest - in Italy and around the world. Italian medical authorities in Italy say Dr. Antinori could lose his right to practice -- because of his plans to clone human beings. Cloning bans are pending in the United States.
