The Aztec Triple Alliance
The Aztec Triple Alliance, also known as the Aztec Empire, began as an alliance of three Nahua city-states or "altepeme": Tenochtitlan, Texcoco, and Tlacopan. These city-states ruled the area in and around the Valley of Mexico from 1428 until they were defeated by the Spanish conquistadores and their native allies under Hernán Cortés in 1521. The Triple Alliance was formed from the victorious faction in a civil war between the city of Azcapotzalco and its former tributary provinces. Despite the initial conception of the empire as an alliance of three cities, Tenochtitlan quickly established itself as the dominant partner. By the time the Spanish arrived in 1520, the lands of the Alliance were effectively ruled from Tenochtitlan, and the other partners in the alliance had assumed subsidiary roles. The alliance waged wars of conquest and expanded rapidly after its formation. At its height, the alliance controlled an empire that covered most of central Mexico as well as some more distant lands. Aztec rule has been described by scholars as "hegemonic" or "indirect". Rulers of conquered cities were usually left in power as long as they agreed to pay semi-annual tribute to the alliance or provided military support in wars with enemy states.

2012 The Aztec Triple Alliance Interview Professor Gerardo Aldan
I think its really important that we finally get representations of indigenous communities that have a significant indigenous voice within them. University of California, Santa Barbara Department of Chicano Studies Gerardo Aldana teaches courses on ancient Mesoamerica in the Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Primarily, he focuses on the study of the Classic Maya intellectual community by examining their artistic, hieroglyphic, and scientific products. Recently, Professor Aldana presented "El Trabajo del Alma de Janahb Pakal: La Cuenta de 819 dias y La Politica de Kan Balam" at the IV Mesa Redonda de Palenque in Chiapas, Mexico. He has published several articles including, "Solar Stelae and a Venus Window: Science and Royal Personality at Late Classic Copan" and "K'in in the Hieroglyphic Record." He is currently working on a book that recovers the meaning of the enigmatic "819-day count" and places it in its context within the history of Classic Maya politics and science.

Aztec Indian Fire Dance
www.youtube.com Aztec is a term used to refer to certain ethnic groups of central Mexico, particularly those groups who spoke the Nahuatl language and who achieved political and military dominance over large parts of Mesoamerica in the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries, a period referred to as the Late post-Classic period in Mesoamerican chronology. Often the term "Aztec" refers exclusively to the people of Tenochtitlan, situated on an island in Lake Texcoco, who called themselves Mexica Tenochca or Colhua-Mexica. Sometimes it also includes the inhabitants of Tenochtitlan's two principal allied city-states, the Acolhuas of Texcoco and the Tepanecs of Tlacopan, who together with the Mexica formed the Aztec Triple Alliance which has also become known as the "Aztec Empire". In other contexts it may refer to all the various city states and their peoples, who shared large parts of their ethnic history as well as many important cultural traits with the Mexica, Acolhua and Tepanecs, and who like them, also spoke the Nahuatl language. In this meaning it is possible to talk about an Aztec civilization including all the particular cultural patterns common for the Nahuatl speaking peoples of the late postclassic period in Mesoamerica. From the 12th century Valley of Mexico was the nucleus of Aztec civilization: here the capital of the Aztec Triple Alliance, the city of Tenochtitlan, was built upon raised islets in Lake Texcoco. A six-player game on Large Sonora, with me playing as the Mexicans, the Colombians and French as allies, against a team of Americans, Germans and Aztecs. Aztecs ~ Spanish Invasion
My video on the spanish invasion of Tenochtitlan and the apocalyptic defeat of the Aztecs. The Fall of Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec Empire, came about through the manipulation of local factions and divisions by Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés. Though numerous battles were fought between the Aztecs and the Spanish army, which was composed of predominantly indigenous peoples, it was the siege of Tenochtitlan that was the final, decisive battle that led to the downfall of the Aztec civilization and marked the end of the first phase of the Spanish conquest of Mexico. The conquest of Mexico was part of the Spanish colonization of the Americas. For a far more detailed description of the Siege of Tenochtitlan and the events leading up to the event, visit the following links. ~ www.aztec-history.com ~ en.wikipedia.org

Visit to Tenayuca, seat of the great Chichimec Empire, and visit to santa cecilia acatitla.
Tenayuca, the high capital of the Chichimecatlalli, was established by Xolotl the Great as seat of a great Empire that came after the Toltec Empire, and before Atzcapotzalco and the Triple Alliance today known as the Aztec Empire. Xolotl arrived from Tampico/Panuco to Central Anahuac, in what is today Mexico City metro area. He came with his wife Tomiyauh (or Tamiyauh) and his eldest son Prince Nopaltzin. His power was such that mainly all ruling monarchs in the Valley of Mexico would become either a descendant of Xolotl the Great or had links with him. Each famous tlahtoani of the Aztec Empire had genealogical links to Xolotl and this city of Tenayuca. When Xolotl arrived to the Central Mexican Plateau, he encountered a political and social chaos derived from the fall of the Toltec Empire, and the epic flee of Quetzalcoatl (Probably to Chichen Itza after making an important stop in the sacred city of Cholula). He witnessed the remnant of the Toltec Empire's homeland through his pass in what is today known as Hidalgo state. He wanted to emulate the Toltec ideals (Toltecayotl) of civilization, arts patronage, philosophy, and political stability. Thus he founded Tenayuca as capital of his Chichimec Empire. The political vacuum was again filled by laws emanating from Tenayuca as high capital, and established a controlled, organized, but widely benevolent immigration policies. Immigrants fleeing from far away lands were well recieved, given land parcels, rights, and in some ...
