Implementing FDTD Equations with Matlab in one Hour
In this video, I am implementing a finite difference time domain solver (FDTD) in one hour using Matlab.
0:00 I will start gently with 1D propagation, results are seen at 10:00.
10:50 I add periodic boundary conditions. Results are seen 13:00.
13:30 Discussion about temporal offset between E and B. Splitting propagator so that they are on equal time. Results are seen 15:05.
16:10 Discussing observed dispersion in FDTD simulation. I Fourier transform the finite difference propagator operator from (r,t) space to (k,omega)-space, and we observe a particle with negative mass, which results from errors in fd-stencil. Final result: 19.14 .
20:40 Theory of adding polarizable material.
22:20 Implementing polarizable material. (I get slightly confused about sign of P. In zero frequency, P shoul...

22:20 Implementing polarizable material. (I get slightly confused about sign of P. In zero frequency, P should be epsilon_r(0)-1 times larger and to same direction as epsilon_0 E. My testing initial guess is unconventional, as I introduce E field inside a dielectric without P, so it will have a transient response.). End results: 32:30 .

48:00 Dispersion analysis in 3D.
54:40 Adding Polarizable material in 3D. End result with polarizable media
59:28 Non spatially uniform coupling, allowing general systems. End result: Metal reflecting a wave 1:04:10.
