Troops Surround Hostage BP Plant A terrorist dubbed "The Uncatchable" is believed to be behind the hostage attack on an oil facility in Algeria. William Hague has condemned the killing of a Briton in the Algerian gas field hostage crisis as "cold-blooded murder" as forces surround the Islamist gunmen. One Briton and an Algerian were killed when an al Qaeda-backed group stormed the In Amenas facility, which is part owned by BP, and seized 41 westerners. Another six were wounded in the attack, which the group claims is retaliation for the French military intervention against al Qaeda-backed rebels in neighbouring Mali. The raid is believed to have been planned by Mokhtar Belmokhtar, and one-eyed Islamist known as Mr Marlboro and The Uncatchable. His group goes under various names including Khaled Abul Abbas Brigade, the Masked Ones and The Blood Battalion and is said to be linked to al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb. Mr Hague said he was sceptical the raid was carried out retaliation for the offensive in Mali. Algeria and its neighbours The attack took place close to the border with Libya Speaking during a visit to Australia, the Foreign Secretary said: "That is a convenient excuse, but usually operations like this take longer to plan. "Whatever excuse is being used by terrorists and murderers, there is no excuse. This is the cold-blooded murder of people going about their business." Algerian Interior Minister Dahou Ould Kablia, speaking on national television, said Algiers ...

Please SUBSCRIBE for the Best Breaking NEWS !! Lance Armstrong Admits Doping in Tour de France, Sources Say | Lance tells all to Oprah Lance Armstrong today admitted to Oprah Winfrey that he used performance enhancing drugs to win the Tour de France, sources told ABC News. A goverment source tells ABC News that Armstrong is now talking with authorities about paying back some of the US Postal Service money from sponsoring his team. He is also talking to authorities about confessing and naming names, giving up others involved in illegal doping. This could result in a reduction of his lifetime ban, according to the source, if Armstrong provides substantial and meaningful information. Armstrong made the admission in what sources describe as an emotional interview with Winfrey to air on "Oprah's Next Chapter" on Jan. 17. The 90-minute interview at his home in Austin, Texas, was Armstrong's first since officials stripped him of his world cycling titles in response to doping allegations. Word of Armstrong's admission comes after a Livestrong official said that Armstrong apologized today to the foundation's staff ahead of his interview. The disgraced cyclist gathered with about 100 Livestrong Foundation staffers at their Austin headquarters for a meeting that included social workers who deal directly with patients as part of the group's mission to support cancer victims. Armstrong's "sincere and heartfelt apology" generated lots of tears, spokeswoman Katherine McLane said, adding ...

French fighter jets have bombed Islamist rebels in central Mali for a third day on Sunday after claims the insurgents were just days away from seizing the capital Bamako. The continuous air-strikes were being carried out around three towns. Forces also recaptured Konna, a strategically located central town, a day after it was seized by Islamist rebels. Interior Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told French radio: "There are raids happening at the moment, there will be more this afternoon and tomorrow. The determination of the French President is absolute: we must eradicate this terrorism that could threaten the security of Mali, the security of our country (France) and of Europe." Last April, al Qaeda-linked militants snatched control of the north of the country and have recently pushed south. Paris deployed more than 500 troops to help prevent rebels advancing further. Meanwhile hundreds of people have come forward to give blood to help injured Malian solders, after a request from the president. At one centre in Bamako alone, medical staff collected more than 1000 pouches in one day. Mali's West African neighbours are expected to deploy troops to support government and French forces over the next few days.

Sgt. Robert Bales, Accused of Afghanistan Massacre On the eve of the most important court hearing US Army Staff Sgt. Robert Bales will ever attend, the wife of the man accused of killing 16 Afghan villagers maintains her husband's innocence. "My husband did not do this. Did not do this," said Kari Bales in an exclusive interview with ABC News. "I truly believe from the bottom of my heart that my husband is not involved." Kari Bales said it is simply "incomprehensible" to her that her husband and best friend, "Bob," faces 16 charges of premeditated murder. Staff Sgt. Bales is accused of sneaking out of his combat outpost and single-handedly conducting a cold-blooded massacre of men, women and children in two remote villages outside of Kandahar, Afghanistan on the night of March 11, nearly 8 months ago. "It doesn't seem possible. Especially that there were women and children. My heart goes out to those families that lost loved ones, parents and grandparents. I am a mom; I can't imagine losing my child, especially to something like that."

A sniper killed an Al-Jazeera reporter in southern Syria on Friday, the pan-Arab television network said, in the second such shooting of a journalist in two days in the conflict-swept country. The killings take the death toll of reporters who have died in Syria's 22-month conflict to at least 20, according to a count by AFP and Paris-based media watchdog Reporters Without Borders, or RSF. "Mohammed Hourani was shot dead by a regime sniper in Basra al-Harir in the province of Daraa, while he was covering the clashes there," Al-Jazeera said in a statement.

Somalia Hostage Raid: French Agent 'Killed' France has said one of its soldiers and an intelligence agent have been killed in a failed hostage rescue attempt in Somalia. The agent, who is code-named Denis Allex and was captured by militants in 2009, died in the fighting with Islamists overnight, the French government said. However, the Al Shabaab militia is reported to have said he is still alive. Another special forces soldier is missing following the fighting, France's defence minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said. He said 17 Somali Islamists had been killed and that the operation was not linked to a separate military operation in Mali aimed at quashing a push by Islamist fighters. Al Shabaab has reportedly said Mr Allex remained in their captivity and was being held far from the base where French helicopters attacked in the early hours of Saturday. The al Qaeda-linked insurgents also said they were holding an injured French soldier. Both sides described a fierce firefight during the raid on the Horn of Africa country that French said was carried out by the intelligence agency that Mr Allex worked for. Sky's Middle East Correspondent Sam Kiley said questions remained about whether the raid was planned because France feared repercussions from its operation in Mali. He said: "It seems a long way away but ideologically - and, according to some intelligence agencies, physically - the Shabaab have been linked into a network of radical Islamist groups (in countries including Mali ...
