In sports, a winning percentage is the fraction of games or matches a team or individual has won. It is defined as wins divided by wins plus losses (i.e. — the total number of matches). Ties count as a ½ loss and a ½ win. Winning percentage is one way to compare the record of two teams; however, another standard method most frequently used in baseball and professional basketball standings is games behind.

For example, if a team's season record is 28–16–5, the team has participated in 49 matches. The five ties represent 2½ wins and 2½ losses, and so the team has an adjusted record of 30½ wins and 18½ losses, resulting in a .622 winning percentage.

In baseball, pitchers are assessed wins and losses as an individual statistic and thus have their own winning percentage, based on their win–loss record. A pitcher's winning percentage is commonly expressed to three digits.

The name "winning percentage" is actually a misnomer, since a winning percentage, such as .536, is commonly not expressed as a percentage. The same value expressed as a percentage would be 53.6%. In leagues in which points are awarded for ties and overtime losses, it's possible for a team to have a winning percentage above 0.500 (50%) despite losing more than half of the games it has played.

In ice hockey, standings are determined by points, not wins, changing the nature of this statistic. In the National Hockey League, teams are awarded two points for a win, and one point for either a tie (a discontinued statistic) or an overtime loss. Since this calculation is not based solely on wins, the statistic is called points percentage.^[1][2] It can be calculated as follows:

Steven Luevano (born March 3, 1981 in Los Angeles, California) was a Mexican-American boxer in the Featherweight division^[1] and is the former WBO Featherweight Champion.^[2] He was trained by the former IBF Super Featherweight Champion Roberto Garcia.^[3]

Amateur career[link]

Steven fought on the Mexican National amateur team.^{[citation needed]} He is the 1997 National Jr. Olympic amateur champion at 119 pounds and had almost 300 amateur bouts before entering the pro ranks.^[4]

Pro career[link]

Luevano turned pro in 2000 and defeated many talented veterans including a win over future IBF Featherweight Champion Cristobal Cruz.

WBO Featherweight Championship[link]

On July 14, 2007 Luevano won the Vacant WBO Featherweight Championship by upsetting an undefeated and the future Super Featherweight WBO champion Nicky Cook by K.O.

On October 6, 2007, Steven Luevano (34-1, 15 KOs) defended his WBO Featherweight title, unanimously defeating 35-year old Antonio "T-Rex" Davis (24-4) on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao and Marco Antonio Barrera.^[5] On March 15 Luevano defended his title magnificently against Thailands Terdsak Jandaeng (29-2-0) winning unanimously. In this pay-per-view fight he landed a featherweight boxing record for most jabs landed.

Even though Steven was born in the United States, he comes to the ring with the Mexican flag instead, thus considered to be a Mexican boxer.

Steven Luevano's was tested in his 3rd defense on June 28, 2008 night's David Diaz-Manny Pacquiao undercard at Mandalay Bay Events Center. Luevano retained his 126-pound belt via split draw with Mario Santiago. Judge Harry Davis scored it 117-111 for Luevano, Duane Ford had it 115-113 for Santiago and Dave Moretti had it 114-114. ESPN.com also had it 114-114. Luevano landed 215 of 641 punches (34%) while Santiago connected on 214 of 835 (26%).^[6][7]

On October 18, 2008, Luevano defeated Billy Dib of Australia (21-0-0) for his 4th defense by unanimous decision.

On August 15, 2009, Luevano successfully defended his title via disqualification against Bernabe Concepcion (29-1-2). Luevano was ahead on the scorecards when Concepcion landed late blows after the bell at the end of the seventh round, resulting in Concepcion being disqualified.^[8]

Luevano ultimately lost his title on January 23, 2010 as he was stopped in the 7th round by former WBO junior bantamweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez. This was his first knockout loss.

Retirement[link]

While only 29 years old and still in his prime, Steven has decided to retire from boxing. During his professional career Steven Luevano won the WBO NABO Super Bantamweight, WBC Continental Americas Featherweight, WBO NABO Featherweight, and made six defences of his WBO Featherweight Championship.^[9]

Bernabe "Abe" Concepcion (born 1988) is a Filipino featherweight boxer. Concepcion resides in Viga, Catanduanes, Philippines. Being from a boxing-oriented family, he trained from a young age. He turned professional at the age of 16.

Concepcion has two older brothers who were also professional boxers. They were his inspiration for having taken up boxing himself. He started boxing at an early age, watching his brothers at first and eventually training with them. He then went into amateur boxing but almost immediately turned professional when he turned 16.

Professional career[link]

Super bantamweight[link]

Having developed his boxing skill in his early life, by 2005, he was considered to be one of the most promising boxing talents to emerge from the Philippines. Today, Concepcion fights mainly in the United States, carving out wins away from his homeland Philippines

He won his first title via KO in China against a Chinese hometown boxer, and gained his two recent belts in the United States against rated opposition. During this first professional bout, he gained his first knockdown, but was able to floor his veteran opponent as well in the early rounds of that fight (Concepcion was 17 years of age at the time). A year later, he won the WBC youth super bantamweight title by scoring a unanimous decision win over a then undefeated opponent, Joksan "El Torito" Hernandez.

Bob Arum immediately signed Concepcion up for Top Rank Boxing following this win.

Featherweight[link]

For his first world title shot, Concepcion took on Steven Luevano for the WBO featherweight title on August 15, 2009. Originally, the fight was supposed to be included in the undercard of the May 2, 2009 bout between Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton but Luevano pulled out due to an injury. Instead, Concepcion fought Colombian Yogli Herrera that night and managed to eke out a 6-round decision.

Concepcion lost his title bout against Steven Luevano via disqualification. Luevano was ahead on the scorecards when Concepcion landed late blows after the seventh round, resulting in a disqualification.^[1]

On February 13, 2010, Concepcion faced Puerto Rican Mario “Principe Ponceño” Santiago at the Las Vegas Hilton in Paradise, Nevada. The Filipino boxer won the 10-round bout by unanimous decision with the scores 98-91, 96-93, 97-92. Concepcion was also able to knock the opponent down in the 6th-round with a powerful right.^[2] This win brought Concepcion to a potential fight against Puerto Rican sensation Juan Manuel López.^[3]

Bernabe Concepcion fought for the WBO featherweight championship again on July 10, 2010. This time, he took on Juan Manuel Lopez who won the belt from Luevano. In the opening round, Concepcion was floored by Lopez but rose back up to respond with a knockdown of his own. In the next round where the bout concluded, Concepcion was brought down by Lopez twice, prompting the referee to call a halt to the match. This was Concepcion's first defeat by stoppage. In response to the outcome of the match, Manny Pacquiao, who coached him in the days leading to the fight, blamed Concepcion for not taking his (Pacquiao's) advice. Bernabe Concepcion is now going to fight Alejandro Perez 14-2-1 9KOs on the undercard to the showtime super fight between Juan Manuel Lopez vs. Rafael Marquez.^[4]

Doug Wojcik (pronounced WO-jick^[2][3]) (born April 12, 1964^[2]) is an American college basketball coach and the current men's basketball head coach at the College of Charleston.^[1][3] Previously, he was the men's basketball head coach at the University of Tulsa.^[4] He is a native of Wheeling, West Virginia,^[3][4] and in high school he played under the prolific Skip Prosser, who would go on to coach at Loyola (MD), Xavier and Wake Forest.^[2] Wojcik graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1987 and served in the Navy until 1992. While at Navy, Wojcik had a very successful playing career as a three-year starter at point guard for the Midshipmen alongside Hall of Famer David Robinson, amassing several team records for assists. Once Wojcik completed his military service he returned to Annapolis as an assistant coach. Wojcik continued his coaching career at Notre Dame, North Carolina and Michigan State until he was hired for his first head coaching job by Tulsa.^[5] He was considered one of the top assistants in the country,^[6] being named a "Head Coach in the Waiting" by Athlon Sports in 2001 and by ESPN's Jay Bilas in 2003.^[3] Wojcik was also recognised as "Assistant Coach on the Rise" by Andy Katz of ESPN.com.^[3]

In the 2005–06 season, his first year as a head coach, Wojcik led the Golden Hurricane to an 11–17 record,^[7] an improvement over two consecutive 9-win seasons in 2003–04^[8] and 2004–05.^[9] His second season saw more improvement, with a final 20–11 overall record and a 9–7 Conference USA record,^[10] TU's first winning conference record in three years.

Wojcik was relieved of his coaching duties at Tulsa on March 11, 2012.^[11]
