Irish Whip Wrestling (IWW) is an Irish owned independent professional wrestling promotion established in 2002. The company was named in tribute to Irish professional wrestler Danno O'Mahony, who is credited as the inventor of the "Irish Whip" wrestling maneuver. IWW runs shows throughout the whole of Ireland. The company has appeared on Sky One, RTE, TV3, The Wrestling Channel, and recently had a weekly show on Buzz TV.
Irish Whip Wrestling (IWW) ran its first two shows in June 2002 in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght, which featured wrestler Tatanka, "Middleman" Lee Butler. After these two shows, IWW returned to the ESB National Basketball Arena on October 9 for a show that was headlined by Jake "The Snake" Roberts. During one match at the show, Roberts defeated Flatliner.
IWW continued to promote shows around Ireland through 2003 and 2004, which featured the debuts of several wrestlers including Mad Man Manson, Red Vinny, Vic Viper, "The Friday Night Kid" Brian Roche, Sheamus O'Shaunessy, Dave Zero and Joey Cabray. On December 2, 2004 IWW held a show in Lucan, Dublin, and the main event featured an FWA British Heavyweight Championship match in which Alex Shane pinned O'Shaunessy with the help of Vinny.
Irish may refer to :
Wrestling is a combat sport involving grappling type techniques such as clinch fighting, throws and takedowns, joint locks, pins and other grappling holds. A wrestling bout is a physical competition, between two (occasionally more) competitors or sparring partners, who attempt to gain and maintain a superior position. There are a wide range of styles with varying rules with both traditional historic and modern styles. Wrestling techniques have been incorporated into other martial arts as well as military hand-to-hand combat systems.
The term wrestling is attested in late Old English, as wræstlunge (glossing palestram).
Wrestling represents one of the oldest forms of combat. Literary references to it occur as early as in the Iliad, in which Homer recounts the Trojan War of the 13th or 12th century BC. The origins of wrestling go back 15,000 years through cave drawings in France. Babylonian and Egyptian reliefs show wrestlers using most of the holds known in the present-day sport.
A whip is a tool traditionally used by humans to exert control over animals or other people, through pain compliance or fear of pain, although in some activities whips can be used without use of pain, such as an additional pressure aid in dressage. Whips are generally of two types, either a firm stick device designed to strike directly, or a flexible whip which must be swung in a specific manner to be effective, but has a longer reach. There are also whips which combine both a firm stick (the stock or handle) and a flexible line (the lash or thong), such as hunting whips.
The majority of whips are designed for use on animals, although whips such as the "cat o' nine tails" and knout were designed specifically for flagellation of humans as a means of a corporal punishment or torture. Whips can be used on oneself as part of a religious practice, or on consenting persons during BDSM activities.
Whips were primarily designed to inflict pain, with the objective of obtaining pain compliance to the wishes of the user. In modern times, the pain stimulus is still used in some animal training, and is permitted in many fields, including most equestrianism disciplines, some of which mandate carrying a whip. The whip can be a vital tool to back up riding aids when applied correctly, particularly when initial commands are ignored. However, many competition governing bodies limit such use of whips, and severe penalties may be in place for over-use of the whip, including disqualification and fines. Socially, the use or over-use of whips may be considered animal cruelty in some jurisdictions.
Read description for more information about the DVD this video is from... Sheamus O Shaunessy (Sheamus of WWE now) vs Stu Sanders (Wade Barrett) with Drew Galloway (McIntyre) on commentary. This was in their late careers with IWW. I am trying to upload a fantastic match with Sheamus against Drew, but it won't upload, and it's such a pity because it's genuinely one of the best indy matches I've seen in a long time. You can purchase "The Best Of SOS Sheamus O Shaunessy" DVD at Irish Whip Wrestling events at their merchandise tables. It has three matches (versus) Drew McIntyre and more, including D'Lo Brown and Vampiro.

As a life long fan, I decided to follow what I love for my journalism masters project. I set off on a journey around Ireland and the U.K. to take a closer look at the independent wrestling scene in Ireland and this is the result! I met some really cool people and had some interesting experiences along the way, to say the least! When I set out to make this film four months ago, my aim was to highlight Irish wrestling and it's characters, I just hope this I did it justice and maybe introduce it to a few new people. It was a lot of hard work, stress and sleepless nights but it was also a lot of fun and I am proud of the end result. I have a lot of people to thank for making this happen and I just hope I haven't forgotten anyone that helped me in the credits! Please watch them! They aren...
