Higgs Boson: Latest Update
Fermilab scientist (and CMS collaborator) Don Lincoln describes the concept of how the search for the Higgs boson is accomplished. The latest data is revealed! Several large experimental groups are hot on the trail of this elusive subatomic particle which is thought to explain the origins of particle mass. Fermilab Physics Slam 2012
Five physicists duke it out with 12 minutes each to explain a complex particle physics concept in front of a large audience of the general public. Particle Business - Fermilab rap music video - funky49
funky49.bandcamp.com About the album funky49.com [NOTE: LYRICS BELOW] The Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Switzerland is (finally) up and running! While the folks over in Europe are busy celebrating, we thought we'd take this opportunity to pay homage to the ORIGINAL king of the particle accelerators; Fermilab in Batavia, IL, USA. The LHC got it's own rap video back in 2008 so we figured it was about time Fermilab had one too! Filmed on location in and around the Tevatron particle collider at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, "Particle Business" is rapper funky49's hip-hop tribute to the "OG Atom Smasher." The video was directed and edited by Dan Lamoureux, the filmmaker behind the Nerdcore hip-hop documentary, "Nerdcore For Life." Huge thanks to all the fantastic folks at Fermilab that made this crazy thing possible! For more music from funky49 visit funky49.com. As for Nerdcore For Life, you can now order the DVD at Nerdcoreforlife.com! NOvA: Exploring Neutrino Mysteries
Neutrinos are a mystery to physicists. They exist in three different flavors and mass states and may be able to give hints about the origins of the matter-dominated universe. A new long-baseline experiment led by Fermilab called NOvA may provide some answers. There is a live feed of the first detector block being moved at www.fnal.gov

Breakthrough: Fermilab Accelerator Technology
There are more than 30000 particle accelerators in operation around the world. At Fermilab, scientists are collaborating with other laboratories and industry to optimize the manufacturing processes for a new type of powerful accelerator that uses superconducting niobium cavities. Experimenting with unique polishing materials, a Fermilab team has now developed an efficient and environmentally friendly way of creating cavities that can propel particles with more than 30 million volts per meter.

Higgs Boson Finding Excites Fermilab Scientists
Scientists at the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN) announced Wednesday the discovery of a subatomic particle that fits the description of the Higgs boson, also known as the "God Particle." As VOA's Kane Farabaugh reports from suburban Chicago, scientists at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory say the development is historic.

Dark Energy Camera Construction Timelapse
The Dark Energy Camera is a 570-Megapixel digital camera being built at Fermilab. Once the mechanics of the support are tested and approved, the unit will be disassembled and shipped to its final assembly and mounting location at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile. This time-lapse consists of 6 percent of the images captured from January through October of 2010. For information on this international project, see www.darkenergysurvey.org

Fermilab's Holometer experiment
Now that we discovered the particle that gives mass to everything, what's next?....In 2008, Fermilab particle astrophysicist Craig Hogan made waves with a mind-boggling proposition: The 3D universe in which we appear to live is no more than a hologram. Now he is building the most precise clock of all time to directly measure whether our reality is an illusion...A team of physicists, technicians and interns work to get Fermilab's Holometer operational. The stakes are high - the Holometer may prove or disprove that our universe is really two dimensions...Imagine that the universe is a hologram, that everything is 2D, not 3D, and that your own vision is a part of a grand illusion. Now imagine a dinky trailer on the prairie and a band of physicists pondering the universe inside, puzzling out a way to prove or disprove whether the world is flat... The Fermilab project is mining the same field as string theory, a murky and complex field of physics theorizing how gravity and particles may interact. In what can be called a seminal test of string theory, the Holometer will measure gravitational waves at a scale smaller than any technology of its kind has yet been capable of doing. When looking at waves at such a small scale, quantum mechanics and general relativity no longer apply, making it possible to see whether the universe is flat and everyone's eyes are playing tricks on them...There's a lot that's odd about the Holometer. For a piece of equipment that will soon be the most ...
