Matthew John Young (born August 9, 1958) is a former American Major League baseball player. Young played for a variety of teams over his career, and is best known for his unofficial no-hitter against the Cleveland Indians while a member of the Boston Red Sox.
Young was born in Pasadena, California in 1958. He attended the University of California Los Angeles. While at UCLA, he was drafted by the Seattle Mariners, in the second round of the 1980 amateur draft. He would make his major league debut three years later with the Mariners, eventually winning 11 games over 2031/3 innings, with a 3.27 earned run average, good enough to rank in the top ten for ERA that season. He represented the Mariners in the 1983 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, where he pitched a scoreless 8th inning facing Johnny Bench, Darrell Evans and Pedro Guerrero.
Young, however, struggled to replicate that success, underwent "Tommy John surgery" and was traded twice, from the Mariners to the Los Angeles Dodgers, then to the Oakland Athletics in a three-team trade with the New York Mets, appearing in a game in relief during the 1989 American League Championship Series. Eventually, Young hit free agency and signed with the Boston Red Sox.
Justin Wayne Tubb (August 20, 1935–January 24, 1998) was an American country music singer and songwriter. Born in San Antonio, Texas, he was the oldest son of legendary country singer Ernest Tubb.
By 1954 he made it on the country chart with two duets with Goldie Hill—("Looking Back to See" and "Sure Fire Kisses"). A year later, at age 20, he was made a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Tubb had a few recordings of his own that enjoyed success, including "I Gotta Go Get My Baby" and "Take a Letter Miss Gray", but he was more successful as a songwriter. He penned many hit songs for other performers, including "Keeping Up with the Joneses", "Love Is No Excuse", and "Lonesome 7-7203", a hit for Hawkshaw Hawkins. Ultimately, six of his songs won awards. In the late 1950s he and roomed with a young, up-and-coming songwriter named Roger Miller.
During the 1960s, Tubb worked worked with his father on various business projects. Toward the end of his own life, he completed an album of duets with his father, using recordings Ernest had made before his death. The album, Just You and Me Daddy (1999), was released after Justin Tubb died in Nashville on January 24, 1998. He was survived by his widow, Carolyn McPherson Tubb.
Thomas Michael Shannon (born July 15, 1939) is an American-born former Major League Baseball player and current radio sportscaster.
Shannon is a radio broadcaster for the St. Louis Cardinals. He was raised in St. Louis, Missouri and played with the Cardinals during some of the team's most successful years. Additionally, he is the proprietor of Mike Shannon's Steaks and Seafood in downtown St. Louis.
Shannon was born and raised in south St. Louis. He attended grade school at Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic School, and graduated high school from Christian Brothers College High School in 1957. He attended the University of Missouri before leaving to begin his professional baseball career. Shannon has commented that if football players were paid better during his era, he probably would have stayed at Missouri, and sought a professional football career. He believed himself a better football player, and his former coach, Frank Broyles, commented that had he stayed in school, Shannon might have won the Heisman Trophy.
Girl don't you know it's all I can do
To keep my hands off of you
Anytime you're around
When the stars come out at night
I dream of holdin' you tight
Everytime I lay down
It feels so good for me to have you this way
The only other thing
I wish I had was a chance
A chance
To tell you how I feel about you
And how it feels to live without a chance
A chance
To tell you I'll love you forever
Knowing that I'll never have a chance
Sometimes reality hurts
And you wonder if life's worth
Living at all
Knowing no matter how much you care
You'll never have a prayer
Of having what you want
At least I've been close enough I could taste
Beauty at it's best
But never a trace of a chance
A chance
To tell you how I feel about you
And how it feels to live without a chance
A chance
To tell you I'll love you forever
Knowing that I'll never have a chance
A chance, a chance
To tell you I'll love you forever
Lie down
Close your eyes and start dreaming on
Call me, in the rays of the moonlight I'll come
Cry now, and spit out all the sorrow
Through pain, you made it to survive
Tears fall, while memories are calling
This life just broke your heart in two
Before the dawn announces a new day
Tonight we have a chance to live our dream
And make it happen to meet again
I'm here, from a place out of memory
Hold me, cause tonight we've a chance to be free
The sound of stars is like some music
Your voice is whispering my name
Go back to dreamland and just call me
Then wait, I promise I'll be there
Before the dawn tears this night away
I'll find again the way to reach your soul
And once again I'll make it through the maze
I'm here, from a place out of memory
Hold me, cause tonight we've a chance to be free
Before the dawn tears this night away
I'll find again the way to reach your soul
And once again I'll make it through the maze
I'm here, from a place out of memory
[First Verse: Kangol Slim]
If I had a wish,
My wish, would be this,
You right in my arms,
Even though I know I did you wrong,
So many flashback memories,
When we made love, you and me,
But I betrayed your trust,
And you love me oh so much
[Chorus: Kangol Slim]
Tell me do we have a chance, for our love?
(One time)
Do we have a chance, for our love?
Do we have a chance, for our love?
(Two times)
Do we have a chance, for our love?
[Second Verse: Kangol Slim]
There you are, lookin' so sexy and fine,
And I really wish I could make you mine again,
And I don't give a damn if you tellin' your friends
(He jockin' me)
When I think about the things that we went through,
You on me, me on you,
When I caught a slight joess,
You put money in my store,
And I don't know why I let you go, so
[Chorus]
[Third Verse: Kangol Slim]
Before I came home,
I called you on the phone,
You was lookin' at my picture sayin'
(Your hair done got long)
And you said you was ready for your man to come home.
(I miss you miss you)
But when I came in the World,
I started messin' round with a lot of girls,
And you told me that I broke your heart,
And that's what drove us apart,
But I'm here to tell you, the reason that I wrote this song,
Is because Girl yes, I know I did you wrong,
It's a livin' fact that I want you back,
You got me fiendin' like fiend when he fiend for crack,
You cooked and cleaned,
Did everything,
That's why I give you props, cuz you did those things,
When I came home, didn't have jackshit,
You the one that bought the tennis that fit, so
[Chorus]
[Bridge One: Kangol Slim]
There you are, lookin' so sexy and fine,
And I really wish I could make you mine again,
And I don't give a damn if you tellin' your friends
(He jockin' me)
There you are, lookin' so sexy and fine,
And I really wish I could make you mine again,
And I don't give a damn if you tellin' your friends
(He jockin' me)
[Bridge Two: Kangol Slim]
So look, what'cha gonna do?
It's either you gonna stay here wit'cha ol' scallywag friends,
Or you gone roll with me, what's happenin' with that?
(Well you know I just gotta see first,
Cuz you know when you get wit'cha boys you don't know how to act, right?)
Well look at you.
It ain't even like that. I ain't gonna sit here and act like I'm jockin' ya,
I'm just lettin' you know I like you
(We'll see)
Alright it's cool...
(Yeah, we'll see)
[Bridge Three: Kangol Slim]
If you got another man,
I don't really give a damn,
You can tell him he could kite
(Boy you ain't right)
Because you comin' to spend the night,
And you know I do you right,
You can tell him he could kite
(Boy you ain't right)
If you got another man,
I don't really give a damn,
You can tell him he could kite
(Boy you ain't right)
Because you comin' to spend the night,
And you know I do you right,
You can tell him he could kite
(Boy you ain't right)
[Chorus]
[Bridge Four: Kangol Slim]
There will never be, another girl that do me the way that you do,
Wanna kiss you and hug you,
I love you I love you,
There will never be, another girl that can do me the way that you do,
Cuz I love you I love you,
When he supported my stance
It got confused with romance
I gave another boy a chance
We both know what we did wrong
When I woke up he was gone
I saved his number in my phone
There's really nothing more to say
I can't remember anything
And you continued to call
Forgivin' it all
But now I really want to talk
The situation has changed
The situation became
A mirror of the last refrain
There's really nothing more to say
Who remembers anyway?
What I'm trying to explain Is we are all the same A chance, a baby needs a chance Everybody needs a chance. Is he gonna have to pay For the disaster you made ?
A chance, a baby needs a chance Everybody needs a chance. A chance
To feel loved and to feel safe Just be happy now and then. Like anybody else A chance
He could give all his best If you take him by the hand Everybody needs a chance.
