The European Odyssey | Opus No. 14
CDZA went to Europe having no real plan for creating experiments. As a result, all four experiments were inspired spontaneously by circumstances and surroundings in four cities along the trip: Paris, Berlin, Salzburg, and Prague. Which experiment do you like the most? Obviously #3 for us. Special thanks to Leo Heubach and Peter Man Peterson for making the grand tour possible. NASA Signs Agreement for European-Provided Orion Service Module
NASA has signed an agreement for the European Space Agency (ESA) to provide a service module for the Orion spacecraft's Exploration Mission-1 in 2017. The announcement was made on Jan. 16 during a news briefing at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston. When Orion blasts off atop a Space Launch System rocket in 2017, attached will be the ESA-provided service module -- the powerhouse that fuels and propels the Orion spacecraft. Exploration Mission-1 in 2017 will be the first mission to incorporate both the Orion vehicle and NASA's new Space Launch System. It will follow the upcoming Exploration Flight Test-1 in 2014, in which an uncrewed Orion will launch atop a Delta IV Heavy rocket and fly to an altitude of 3600 miles above Earth's surface, farther than a human spacecraft has gone in 40 years.

euronews science - Where is Europe's oldest town?
www.euronews.com Bulgarian archaeologists led by Professor Vasil Nikolov from the National Archaeology Institute and Museum claim to have discovered Europe's oldest town in the north-east of the country. Professor Vasil Nikolov, who has been studying the area for many years, located the town near the salt pans in the vicinity of Provadia in the Varna region, the same locale as the first salt factory in Europe. Salt production is believed to be the reason behind the location of the town, founded around 6500 years ago. Before the discovery, archaeologists had already demonstrated the existence of the first European salt mines in a region with a rich past proven by the number of graves. What is different here from all the other ancient villages in South-East Europe are the salt springs. The salt water was evaporated by different techniques in ceramic bowls and the salt produced was used as money because it was so essential for humans and animals as well. The production of the salt made the region prosperous. Find us on: Youtube bit.ly Facebook www.facebook.com Twitter twitter.com

euronews the network - Could Europe become a federation of regions?
www.euronews.com Scotland, Catalonia and Flanders are among a number of European regions with yearnings for autonomy, if not outright independence. The financial crisis has compounded the tensions with national governments, especially among regions that are net contributors to their national budgets and now want their tax money back. Meanwhile Belgian ex-Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt has co-authored a book with Daniel Cohn-Bendit urging an EU federalism that would weaken the nation state, critics say it is already happening. As the crisis leads to increasing EU authority over budgets and banking, undermining national sovereignty, is it time for a real Europe of regions under a more powerful EU roof? Could this solve those separatist yearnings? Or could it lead to chaos as more regions demand increasing autonomy? Wired into this edition of the Network is; from the European Parliament in Brussels, Christian Wenning, General Secretary of the Union of European Federalists, founded shortly after World War II, it believes in unity and diversity that could overcome Europe's divisions. From Tenerife, Marc Guerrero i Tarragó, in charge of international relations for the nationalist party, Democratic Convergence of Catalonia. He is also Vice President of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE). From London, Sony Kapoor, Managing Director of the economic think-tank Re-Define, who sees identity politics as a way to leverage a better deal with national governments ...

euronews U talk - Car insurance cover across European borders
www.euronews.com Nicolas from Brussels asks: "I plan to take my family to southern Italy this summer. Will my Belgian car insurance cover expenses if we have an accident on our way through France or in Italy?" Luisa Laranjo, aSenior Comminication Officer at Europe Direct responds: "Wherever you are travelling in one of the 27 EU member states plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, your car insurance policy will automatically provide the minimum cover - the third party liability (if you injure someone else) required by law. "If you are responsible for the accident abroad, you need to fill out the 'European accident statement'. You can get it from your insurer and it is identical in most countries. "Your car insurance will cover up to the amounts set out in your insurance contract. Therefore, if the actual damage exceeds the maximum amount in the country where the accident happened and you do not have higher cover in your insurance policy, you will have to pay the difference. "As from 12 June 2012, the minimum amount covered by compulsory insurance amounts to at least, for personal injuries: - 1000000 euros per victim or - 5000000 euros per claim - whatever the number of victims "And for material damages, it amounts to: - 1000000 euros per claim - whatever the number of victims. "However, other types of damage such as injuries you suffer - the so-called first-party insurance, fire, theft and so on suffered while abroad, are not a standard part of insurance policies. If you ...

Americans Becoming More Like Europeans?
"Last week the Pew Research Center released a survey of American and European attitudes on a host of issues. Conservative commentators homed in on two findings: first, fewer Americans believe that our culture is superior to others (49% now, compared with 60% a decade ago); second, a rising share of young Americans support activist government. Such findings have been used to build a narrative that under President Obama, we're becoming less American and more like those relativist, collectivist, socialist Europeans across the pond."* Is there a shifting attitude in America? According to a Pew Research poll, there just might be. Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, and Ben Manckiewicz (Host, Turner Classic Movies) break it down. *Read more from Time: ideas.time.com Support The Young Turks by Subscribing bit.ly Support The Young Turks by Shopping bit.ly Like Us on Facebook: www.fb.com Follow Us on Twitter: bit.ly Buy TYT Merch: theyoungturks.spreadshirt.com Find out how to watch The Young Turks on Current by clicking here: www.current.com

euronews I talk - Is Europe's monarchy anachronistic?
www.euronews.com In this edition of I-talk we consider the role of Europe's kings and queens. *Presenter Alex Taylor:* "There are 12 European countries that have their own monarchy. Do our kings and queens serve any purpose or should we behead these anachronistic institutions once again? "To answer your questions, whether you are a subject or a citizen, please welcome the European king of aristocracy, Stéphane Bern, joining us from Paris." *Stéphane Bern, royal expert:* "Hello Alex, hello everyone!" *Alex Taylor:* "So you know our programme: short questions, quick answers. Let's start with this rather basic question." *Question:* "Hello, my name is Owen Brown, I am from Belgium and I would like to know: what's the use of having a King? Thank you." *Stéphane Bern:* "Listen, a king's role may seem simply decorative, but it's like a cornerstone: you remove it, and the whole building collapses. In a way, he is the cement of a nation, an ambassador, a national symbol which brings people together. He's like a referee, and a referee cannot be the captain of either team, I think football fans will understand the metaphor perfectly." *Alex Taylor:* "Yes, but there are some nations that do perfectly well without, such as yours, Stéphane Bern..." *Stéphane Bern:* "Well, precisely. If things were going that smoothly, they would be completely different. We wouldn't have, at the heart of our political debate, questions about identity in power. You see how people tear each other apart ...
