Arctic Midnight Sun
The midnight sun is a natural phenomenon occurring in summer months at latitudes north and nearby to the south of the Arctic Circle, and south and nearby to the north of the Antarctic Circle where the sun remains visible at the local midnight. Given fair weather, the sun is visible for a continuous 24 hours, mostly north of the Arctic Circle and south of the Antarctic Circle. The number of days per year with potential midnight sun increases the farther poleward one goes. The opposite phenomenon, polar night, occurs in winter when the sun stays below the horizon throughout the day.

Tales from the Arctic Circle. Episode One
Episode 1. Monday "building snowhouses" In Iqaluit a town 100 miles from the Arctic Circle the Inuit are building igloos for the Toonik Tyme festival. This is a booming capital city of seven thousand people but there is a serious housing crisis. When temperatures drop down to minus 70 in the winter some families can be found living in sheds, but no one lives in igloos anymore. Episode One of 4 short films, commissioned by Channel 4 television, follow a week at the Toonik Tyme festival in Iqaluit, the Inuit capital way up in the Arctic. A magical look at a changing culture as locals compete in games and tests of skill: igloo building, ice sculpture, snowmobile racing and a round of golf on a fairway carved from the sea ice. Its all so enchanting, but behind these images are stories of homelessness, melting ice, colonialism and isolation.

ICELAND: Cruising Inside the Arctic Circle
Recorded September 4, 2008. This video commemorates my becoming a member of the most honourable Order of Bluenoses when while on board the mv Sea Princess crossed the Artic Circle Latitude 66 33.0 North on passage from Torshavn to Akureyri on Thursday, 4th September 2008 at 2100 hours. Following the crossing of the Artic Circle on September 5th as we were leaving Akureyri there was a polar bear plunge in the ship's swimming pool. From: timvp.com

Tire Rack - Winter Testing at the Arctic Circle: Ultra High Performance All-Season Tires
www.tirerack.com Our three-part Arctic Circle winter series from January of 2009 concludes with this evaluation of the effectiveness of Ultra High Performance All-Season tires -- during the height of the winter season -- in Northern Sweden. These tires' three-season focus usually comes at some expense in the fourth season's wintertime traction levels. Our test revealed just how much, or little, snow traction is provided in these all-season designs by comparing the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position, Continental ExtremeContact DWS, Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus and Yokohama Avid W4s.

"Arctic Circles of Death:" Frigid .22 Drill by Nutnfancy
At 15ºF, the fingers go numb pretty quick...even with shooting gloves. And you will need that dexterity to make the tough shot: a 3/8" circle at 25 yards with some wind blowing at times. The tool of choice here is the excellent and highly recommended Marlin 925 high value bolt action .22 rifle. It is outfitted with the Weaver RV9 .22 scope with adjustable objective. The system performs perfectly in the cold. Standard ammunition is used (Winchester Super X) and its accuracy is excellent. But these are some tough shots and we are lucky to get even half into the "kill zones." Of course the target is again my "Circles of Death" target sheet, revised to show rows of ten circles to correspond with the 10 rounds in the magazine. Three stations are used: dead tree support, prone, and the TNP Barricade and 30 rounds are expended on each run. Cr0cket20 comes along for this drill and we show one run a piece here as we have lots more testing to complete on this day. The COD Drill is probably best performed indoors but with light winds it's do-able at your outdoor range as well. But the cold and snow brings a whole new level of challenge here. Hopefully the vid isn't too boring.////////////////////// Nutnfancy Likability Scale for Marlin 925: 10 out of 10 /////////////////// Music: www.danosongs.com and Williamberry (remix of Brad Sucks I believe)

Tire Rack - Winter Testing at the Arctic Circle: Studdable Winter/Snow
www.tirerack.com Once again from Northern Sweden, home to a number of great winter test sites and plenty of snow and ice, we tested a tires ability to accelerate, brake and drive through the Arctic snow and on ice. This round included several Studdable Winter / Snow tires, each featuring deep treads molded in aggressive patterns designed to dig their way through the snow while including molded-in holes to insert optional metal studs for enhanced ice traction. We compared the General Altimax Arctic (both unstudded and studded) along with unstudded Firestone Winterforce and Pirelli Winter Carving Edge tires.

Tire Rack - Winter Testing at the Arctic Circle: Studless Ice & Snow Tires
www.tirerack.com During the height of the winter season in Northern Sweden in late January of 2009, we compared three Studless Ice and Snow winter tires, each designed with advanced tread compounds and highly evolved tread patterns to be the best for when winter conditions are the worst. We evaluated each tire's ability to accelerate, brake and drive through the snow and across ice. Both objective tests measuring each tire's performance with sensitive on-board instruments, and subjective ratings of how each tire felt from the driver's seat were conducted.

Surfing in the Arctic Circle
From the Royal kingdom of Norway, high up on the arctic circle. In a deep protected fjord, on a mountain top rising almost 1000 meter right out of the ocean you find the pure and clean source of the RoyalH2O. www.royalh2o.com We live close to the nature and over 600 meters almost straight down into the deep, clean and often wild fjord you find a heaven for surfers who like something else. Specially during the fall and winter storms waves grow to a frightening height for the most of us. But the brave surfers here show how to tame the massive waves.
