Praia da Arrifana is a beach within the Municipality of Aljezur, in the Algarve, Portugal. The beach is on the western Seaboard in the north west of the Algarve. The beach is 6.0 miles (9.7 km) south south west of the village of Aljezur, and is 71.0 miles (114.3 km) north west, by road, from the regions capital of Faro. The beach of Praia da Arrifana is inside the Vicentine Coast Natural Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Praia da Arrifana has been designated a blue Flag beach (2012). The sand on Praia da Arrifana is of pale golden fine sand and is approximately 500 meters long. The beach is backed by tall cliffs which afford the beach some protection from the ravages of the Atlantic Ocean. Even so, this is a very popular beach for surfing and body surfing. The beach is accessed by a boardwalk steps, down to the beach from the village. At the bottom of the village there is a concrete slope which provides easy access for wheelchair users and for boats etc. On the north west side of the bay there is the small fishing village of Arrifana and its small fishing harbour.

Sutton Hoo: Anglo-Saxon Ship Burial
This is about the Anglo-Saxon ship burial under Mound One at Sutton Hoo, in Suffolk England. It was discovered in the summer of 1939 and is one of the richest finds in English archaeology. The excavation was begun by Basil Brown, a local, self-taught archaeologist, hired by Mrs Edith Pretty, the owner of Sutton Hoo, and was completed by a team of professional archaeologists. It is believed the grave might have been that of King Raedwald of the East Angles (reigned c. 599-624), who, according to the Venerable Bede, converted to Christianity, but also continued to worship the Anglo-Saxons' traditional pagan deities. The Anglo-Saxons came to Britain in the fifth and sixth centuries from homelands in north-west Europe. This was after the collapse of Roman rule in Britain, and before the Viking invasions of c. 800-1035.

This is very interesting. Watch the actual flow of air traffic around the globe.... as day turns into night and then back into day. Note the well known increases in air traffic congestion as the sun comes up in Western Europe and North America turning their airspaces into real beehives of activity! There are also the other well known flows: air traffic across the North Atlantic, westbound during daylight, eastbound at night (watch how each direction fires off like a water cannon as the sun comes up in Europe, or goes down in North America.....the expected flow across the North Pacific... other well known flows from our West Coast out to the Hawaiian Islands. Look at how lonely it must be flying the south Pacific between Argentina/Chile at the southern most tip of South America over to Australia ... just a couple of aircraft (or just two aircraft between Australia to South Africa!).

Slow Air (Going Home) - Royal Scots Dragoon Guards
Amazing Grace: The Pipes and Drums and Military Band of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. After almost 300 years, the name of THE ROYAL SCOTS GREYS is to disappear from the Order of Battle in the British Army on 2nd July, 1971. But while it is sad that a Regiment of such fame and of such fine tradition should be no more, this is also an occasion to welcome a new and fine Regiment. The Royal Scots Greys (2nd Dragoons) is amalgamating with the 3rd Carabiniers (Prince of Wales Dragoon Guards) to form Scotland's new armoured Regiment, THE ROYAL SCOTS DRAGOON GUARDS (Carabiniers and Greys). The histories of both the Greys in 1678 and the Carabiniers in 1685. Both served with distinction in Marlborough's Wars and in the Seven Years' War. During the Napoleonic Wars, both Regiments served under Wellington, including action in the Peninsular War and at Waterloo where the Scotsmen made their famous charge on their legendary grey mounts. It was then that Sergeant Ewart of the Greys captured the Eagles standard of Napoleon's Invincible Legion, the French 45th Regiment of Infantry. To this day, the Eagle has been the cap badge of the Royal Scots Greys, and it will continue to be worn by the new Regiment, backed by the carbines of the 3rd Carabiniers. Both Regiments serves in South Africa during the Boer War and they fought in the trenches during the First World War. From 1939 to 1945, The Greys fought in Palestine, North Africa, Italy and North-west Europe, while the Carabiniers formed ...

In preparation for the Seat Kitesurf Tour Europe on Sylt, the North team decided to do a road trip to Denmark for some last minute training. Joining them, video / photographer Nick de Bruijn to document their journey.
With the wind blowing from the North-West the team traveled all along the West coast visiting spots like: Rømø, Hvide Sande and several spots near Krik/Vestervig and Oddesund. Denmark turned out to be perfect for a week of training. A different spot every 5 minutes, waves, flat water, lagoons and enough place everywhere to set up your kites!

"Mario Rodwald" : After the last party with all my friends from school (and some cool teachers) I finally dropped out of my well-ordered life and went for a trip to Denmark. Tom Schüller and Stefan Spiessberger came with me to rock the beautiful country up north.
In the last seven days we had more then enough wind to check some new flat water spots all around the coast. We also got some big waves and up to 40
knots in Hvide Sande. Nick de Bruijn came with us to record some moving pictures of our roadtrip.

The Franks (Latin: Franci or gens Francorum) were a confederation of Germanic tribes first attested in the third century AD as living north and east of the Lower Rhine River. From the third to fifth centuries some Franks raided Roman territory while other Franks joined the Roman troops in Gaul. Only the Salian Franks formed a kingdom on Roman-held soil that was acknowledged by the Romans after 357. In the climate of the collapse of imperial authority in the West, the Frankish tribes were united under the Merovingians and conquered all of Gaul except Septimania in the 6th century. The Salian political elite would be one of the most active forces in spreading Christianity over western Europe. The ethnonym "Frank" is thought to be derived from a Germanic word for "bold, fierce". The name has sometimes been traced to the Germanic word for "javelin" (cf. Old English franca, Old Norse frakka), however the opposite may be the case, as in the Latin francisca "throwing axe", which was named after the tribe. A weapon-based tribal name would be comparable to that of the Saxons. The Merovingian dynasty, descended from the Salians, founded one of the Germanic monarchies which replaced the Western Roman Empire from the fifth century. The Frankish state consolidated its hold over large parts of western Europe by the end of the eighth century, developing into the Carolingian Empire which dominated most of Western Europe.
