Laos: Vientiane discovered
"I find it hard to believe that Vientiane is a capital. The feeling here is more akin to a sleepy, laid back country town. Non-the-less, capital it is, the seat of government and powerhouse of the country. Vientiane means 'Sandalwood City' and is pronounced Viang Chan. Viang is Lao for 'city' or 'place with walls'; Chan means sandalwood. Not that there is much sign of city walls or sandalwood.....! I immediately took to the place with its tree-lined boulevards, dozens of Buddhist temples, quaint back streets, wonderful food stalls, coffee houses and topping the list, magnificent views of the mighty Mekong...."

A quick tour of Vientiane, the capital city of Laos, then a stop at the COPE rehabilitation center to learn about the victims of the bombing from the Vietnam War. Exploring Vientiane, Laos—on RodMcNeil.TV
More Videos: www.RodMcNeil.TV In this episode, Rod first discovers the coffee culture of this capital city, a city that seeks to preserve and celebrate its connections to many cultures—French, German and more. Many of the historic buildings are in fantastic condition. This piece showcases the many eras of Vientiane. And what does Vientiane have in common with Beverly Hills? Watch and find out. Enjoy the tour of Wat Sisaket as well—the most famous and oldest wat in the region. Not too far away, the Phat That Luang Stupa, golden in the sunlight, reaches skyward above the city. Does the local currency include coins? Find out! See the most-stunning victory monument as well, built after freedom from the French occupation. And what a view from the top! Rod also shows us the architectural magnificence of the Arc Patuxai followed by a walk on the boardwalk along the Mae Kong river. And the sunset. Wow! Rod wraps up his journey on the Thai side of the river in Nong Khai. What an adventure! Visit to Vientiane, Laos - Orgasmic Toilet, BeerLao, BBQ Chips, and Sex Workers
It was an adventurous foray into the heart of darkness in Laos where the encore was a peeper into my room and 2 of my underwear stolen by the Laos maid at the hotel. Here's some stuff I wanted to show you from the hotel room - originally the video was about the orgasmic toilet, but then I kept finding stuff I thought someone might want to know. Laos is a great place, but I don't feel as comfortable there as I do in Thailand. There is this look Laotians give me that makes me believe either they - or I, am from another planet. I don't get that look (often) in Thailand. Vientiane is an expensive place. I don't know what they pay hotel maids there, but obviously NOT enough. Hold onto your briefs if you go guys. Don't forget to drink lots and lots of Beerlao - the ultimate beer in Laos, and on the earth.

Vientiane and Luang Prabang, Laos 2011
Laos the capital and largest city of Laos, situated in the Mekong river. Vientiane became the capital in 1563 due to fears of a Burmese invasion. During French rule, Vientiane was the administrative capital and due to economic growth in recent times, it has become the economic centre of Laos. Luang Prabang iterally means "Royal Buddha Image". It is a city located in north central Laos, where the Nam Khan river meets the Mekong River about 425 kilometers (264 mi) north of Vientiane.

Lao MegaMall in Vientiane - Laos ~ Presentation
In just another 3 years Vientiane (the capital of Laos) is to receive its first Mega Shopping Mall. The construction started in July 2011 and should be completed by 2013. It is located in Sikhai Village, Vientiane. J&C; Expat Services was given exclusive access to the plans and blueprints of the new "Regal MegaMall City"; a 5 storey mega-mall which will include over 1000 shops. Regal MegaMall City will also host restaurants, a children's playground, a video game arcade, a huge cinema complex and of course a hypermart (like Tesco, Big C, Carrefour or similar). Later, in a second phase, property development around the site has been planned which will include modern private residences for rent or sale.

WTF Nanaimo Bars in Vientiane Laos @ JOMA Bakery & Cafe Awesome Food - Phil in Bangkok
www.SaveMoneyManageMoneyMakeMoney.com http www.JOMA.biz I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the Famous "Nanaimo Bars" in this Great Cafe but then I found out 3 of 4 owners were from British Columbia Canada, JOMA is the initials of the 4 owners. I came here 4 times as the food was so fresh, tasty, unique and inexpensive, was sad when I left but hope the owners open one in Bangkok as it would be a hit here too. The Nanaimo Bar originated in Ladysmith, Vancouver Island, south of Nanaimo in the early 1950s. Mabel Jenkins, a local housewife from Cowichan Bay, submitted the recipe to the annual Ladysmith and Cowichan Women's Institute Cookbook. This cookbook was sold in the early 1950s in the region as a fundraiser. It became popular in many of the province's households, especially in company towns, and was sold in many of the coffee shops on Nanaimo's Commercial Street. Tourists in the region, especially US tourists on pleasure boats came to refer to these as "Nanaimo Bars". In Nanaimo and points south to Duncan, however, these were originally referred to as Mabel bars, or WI bars. The earliest confirmed printed copy of the recipe using the name "Nanaimo Bars" appears in a publication entitled His Favourite Recipes, Compiled by the Women's Association of the Brechin United Church (1957), with the recipe submitted by Joy Wilgress, a Baltimore, Maryland native (p.52). (Brechin United Church is in Nanaimo.) This recipe also is reprinted in Kim Blank's book Sex, Life Itself, and ...

Vientiane (pronounced Lao ວຽງຈັນ Viang-chan / Wiang-chan IPA: [wíaŋ tɕàn]) is the capital city of Laos, situated in the Mekong Valley. It is also Laos's largest city. The estimated population of the city is 200000 (2005) while the number of people living in the Vientiane metropolitan area (the entire Vientiane Prefecture and parts of Vientiane Province) is believed to be over 730000. Vientiane is located at 17°58' North, 102°36' East (17.9667, 102.6). [1] The city will host for the first time the 25th Southeast Asian Games in December celebrating the 50 years of SEA Games. Sri Sattanak, or Sisattanak (Lao: ສີສັດຕະນາກ), is a former name of Vientiane. It is often confused with Sri Sattanakanahut, the Pali name of Lan Xang, the Kingdom of the Million Elephants. Sisattanak now is the name of one of the five districts of the city Vientiane. The great Laotian epic, the Phra Lak Phra Lam, claims that Prince Thattaradtha founded the city when he left the legendary Lao kingdom of Muong Inthapatha Maha Nakhone because he was denied the throne in favor of his younger brother. Thattaradtha founded a city called Maha Thani Si Phan Phao on the western ...

Noy-Itthilit recaptures Vientiane boat race crown
The Noy-Itthilit boat from That Luang village narrowly beat a crew from Choum village to become kings of the Mekong yesterday, their third victory after previously raising the trophy in 2008 and 2009. The final race was a close call, though Noy-Itthilit maintained the lead from the start, crossing the finishing line just one length ahead of their disappointed rivals. Yet another highly successful Vientiane Boat Racing Festival saw longboat crews powering down the Mekong in front of thousands of cheering spectators, including President Choummaly Sayasone, former Politburo Member and former Prime Minister Sisavath Keobounphanh, Vientiane Mayor Soukanh Mahalath, Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Prof. Dr Bosengkham Vongdara, and other high ranking government officials. Noy-Itthilit's trophy was well deserved, and the triumphant crew was rewarded with a prize of 15 million kip. The Choum village boat in second place went home with 10 million kip. The third placed Luang Prabang boat received six million kip, while Thapha village in fourth place won four million kip. In the final race of the women's traditional boat category, Had Siew beat Chanthabouly to the finishing post, while Thapha took third place and Saendin came in fourth. The cash prizes were the same as for the men's category, but the women had to be satisfied with a trophy made of one kilogramme of silver, while the men's trophy weighed in at 3kg. The sports boat category was won by Lam Motor, with the ...
