Generating and Querying Semantic Metadata and Ontologies
Google Tech Talks June 21, 2007 ABSTRACT Semantic technologies aim at providing machine interpretable descriptions of information and services. Ontologies and related metadata provide the technological backbone for these semantic technologies that gain more and more relevance also in commercial settings, for example for information integration, search and retrieval. The talk will discuss various recent developments in the area of ontology and metadata management. As a starting point we present Semantic Mediawiki - an extension of the well-established Mediawiki platform that runs Wikipedia - for the large-scale collaborative generation of semantic metadata. We also show how simple semantic...

Modeling and Metadata Management for Enterprise Information Architecture
www.sybase.com Hi, I'm David Dichmann, Senior Product Manager for Design Tools at Sybase. And today I would like to talk to you about modeling and metadata management for enterprise architecture. To begin, I'd like to first take a look at, what is enterprise architecture? Fundamentally, enterprise architecture is about these three things. First it's about getting business and IT alignment, so we can have agility for effectiveness in responding to change. Second, it's about regulatory compliance, now not just being able to ensure that we've met the regulations but also defending against an audit, and having the choice ability to do so. Enterprise architecture is also about preparing for whole business transformation; here we are talking about big block change moving from today's infrastructure to the infrastructure to be tomorrow. Now let's take a look at how PowerDesigner breaks down all the things we need to know to be able to achieve this vision. So here we have a view of all the different types of models that PowerDesigner manages for us and where they belong in the enterprise architecture. Now first, let's take a look at these different layers, for example, here we have the business layer, where we are understanding the business in pure business terms. Then we have the conceptual, logical and physical layers, where we start reflecting the business back to itself in technology terms and drive down to the detailed implementation. We also have these different ...

Library Meta Data in SharePoint 2010
Now that you have your documents in SharePoint it's time to think about making your documents smart. In SharePoint 2010 you can add Meta data fields to your documents. These fields help increase relevance to your documents and returning better search results. Meta data can be used to filter and sort your document libraries replacing the old fashion folder structures. The power of meta data awaits you! TTR will teach you how to add Meta data fields to your Libraries and even use fields from your SharePoint lists... yeah, this is pretty cool!

Getting Stuff Into Zotero
There are tons of ways to get, books, articles, web pages, and any other kind of item into Zotero. So many, in fact, that we thought we needed this to make this short screencast. You might just be surprised at how many ways there are to get information into Zotero. This screencast covers six ways to get things into Zotero.
1. Location Bar Icons: When you visit library websites, journal databases, and many other Zotero enabled sites you can click the icons that appear in the location bar to grab citation information.
2. Create New Item from Current Page button: Clicking the Create New Item from Current Page button in the Zotero toolbar creates an item and saves the page as an attached snapshot.
3. Retrieve Metadata for PDFs: Zotero can also attempt to identify PDFs you have saved to your computer. Just drag them into the middle pane and right click on them and select “Retrieve Metadata for PDF”. If Zotero can find the PDF in Google Scholar, it creates a new library item for the paper, downloads the citation information and attaches the original PDF to the new item.
4. Look up Items by Unique Identifier: If have a DOI, ISBN, or PubMed ID Zotero can look up it's citation information.
5. Manually Adding Items: Items can be added manually by clicking the New Item button in the Zotero toolbar, then selecting the appropriate item type. Metadata can then be added by hand in the right column.
6. Importing Records from Other Tools: Many users come to Zotero with extensive collections stored in other reference management software. To import entire collections into Zotero, click on the gear icon and select “Import.” Browse to your file, select it, and click open.

Mæve installation @ Venice Biennale 2008
At the Venice Biennale, the mæve installation connects the entries of the EveryVille student competition and puts them into the larger context of MACE content and metadata. By placing physical project cards on an interactive surface, the visitors can explore an organic network of projects, people and media. mæve is designed and developed by the Interface Design team of the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam.

Red Epic on the Road - First Impression Video Blog
Read the rest of the blog here: http://www.tomguilmette.com/archives/2830
Working with friend and first A.C. Nick Keating, I shot and edited a video blog that will help you better understand the Red Epic. We shot on location in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
I go through the Red Epic menus, show basic operation and offer tips to save you time in the field and bring back stunning pictures. I also briefly show you how to use the free Red Cine-X software. I am no expert, so keep that in mind :-)
I am impressed at how much you can adjust in post. Color temperature and ISO is metadata! It does not matter where you have them set while you are shooting, they can be adjusted in post without an issue.

0896 - Render Metadata
All the effects in this video are produced using Kirsten Lee's viewer (version S20 build 43) exclusively. This means that there is absolutely no postprocessing, apart from stretching and adding titles. I'm using the "Render Metadata" submenu of the "Develop" menu. To get to the "Develop" menu you can either force the "Advanced" menu to appear (Ctrl+Alt+D) and then select "Show Develop Menu", or simply press Ctrl+Alt+Q. "Render Metadata" has the following options: "Bounding boxes", "Normals", "Octree", "Shadow Frusta", "Occlusion", "Render Batches", "Texture Anim", "Texture Priority", "Texture Area", "Face Area", "Lights", "Collision Skeleton" and "Raycast". Some of these produce very cool visual effects, which can be used creatively when taking snapshots and filming for machinima. I don't use viewer 2.0, and therefore I can't comment on whether these options are also found there, and, in case they can, where are they located. Music is "Gammachains", by Torley, from his Dream Journal 2. Vimeo version: vimeo.com/17939111 Flickr version: www.flickr.com
