South Lake Tahoe, California

South Lake Tahoe is the most populous city in El Dorado County, California, United States, in the Sierra Nevada. As its name suggests, the city is located on the southern shore of Lake Tahoe.

The city's population was 21,403 at the 2010 census, down from 23,609 at the 2000 census. The city extends about 5 miles (8 km) west-southwest along U.S. Route 50, also known as Lake Tahoe Boulevard. The east end of the city, on the California-Nevada state line right next to the town of Stateline, Nevada, is mainly geared towards tourism, with T-shirt shops, restaurants, hotels, and Heavenly Mountain Resort with the Nevada casinos just across the state line in Stateline, Nevada. The western end of town is mainly residential, and clusters around "The Y" (new intersection October 2008), the X-shaped intersection of US 50, State Route 89, and the continuation of Lake Tahoe Boulevard after it loses its federal highway designation.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 16.6 square miles (43 km²), of which 10.2 square miles (26 km²) is land and 6.4 square miles (17 km²), or 38.80%, is water. Its elevation is about 6,237 feet (1,901 m) above sea level.

South Lake Tahoe (Nevada gaming area)

The NGCB South Lake Tahoe is a partial list of casinos in Douglas County, Nevada. Three other casinos in Douglas county are grouped with the 11 in Carson City, and are referred to as Carson Valley.

Although five licenses are in the county, one is just the race and sports book for the larger casino. Harvey's Resort Hotel dominates this county, and is the only casino with gaming revenue greater than $72 million per year.

California (CTA Green Line station)

California is a station on the Chicago Transit Authority's 'L' system, serving the Green Line's Lake Branch. It opened on November 6, 1893. California closed on February 9, 1992, as part of a series of budget cuts, but later reopened with the completion of the Green Line rehabilitation.

The station is situated at the intersection of California Avenue and Lake Street in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. It is wheel-chair accessible. It is also close to the Chicago Center for Green Technology.
