Iconoclasts: Sean Penn and Jon Krakauer Part 1
Jon Krakauer, author of the book "Into the Wild" with Sean Penn retrace the footsteps of the enigmatic Christopher McCandless. Freshly graduated from college with a promising future ahead, McCandless instead walked out of his privileged life and into the wild in search of adventure. What happened to him on the way transformed this young wanderer into an enduring symbol for countless people -- a fearless risk-taker who wrestled with the precarious balance between man and nature. Inside the 1996 Everest Disaster - Ken Kamler
Dr. Kenneth Kamler recalls his harrowing experience on a climb towards the summit of Mt. Everest in 1996 when a lethal 2-day storm kicked up. The event, documented by writer Jon Krakauer in his bestselling book Into Thin Air, would lead to the deaths of eight climbers and leave several others -- including Kamler -- stranded and fighting for their lives. In this presentation, Kamler explores the effects of the disaster, the rescue, and the relentless drive of human survival. EG is the celebration of the American entertainment industry. Since 1984, Richard Saul Wurman has created extraordinary gatherings about learning and understanding. EG is a rich extension of these ideas - a conference that explores the attitude of understanding in music, film, television, radio, technology, advertising, gaming, interactivity and the web - The Entertainment Gathering Kenneth "Ken" Kamler is a microsurgeon and mountain climber. Kamler was chosen by New York Magazine as one of New York City's best doctors in 2002. He is a microsurgeon trained at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center who also practices extreme medicine in the most remote corners of the world. He has served as chief high altitude physician for the NASA-sponsored research in human physiological responses to extreme altitude. As covered in the book Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer, in May 1996, Kamler was at Camp III on Mount Everest preparing for a summit attempt when a ferocious storm engulfed three teams of climbers returning ...

Jeff Lowe's Metanoia - narrated by Jon Krakauer
Jeff Lowe's Metanoia uses the Eiger as a backdrop for Jeff Lowe's life story. For nine harrowing days in the winter of 1991, Jeff pieced together a nearly impossible route up the very center of the Eiger Nordwand. Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer: A book review (No Spoilers)
twitter.com www.facebook.com This is my review on the great book Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. I rate this book 5 out of 5. Here is the ecerpt from the book that I read in the video: Jim Gallian had driven four miles out of Fairbanks when he spotted the hitchhiker standing in the snow beside the road, thumb raised high, shivering in the gray Alaska dawn. He didn't appear to be very old: eighteen, maybe nineteen at most. A rifle protruded from the young man's backpack, but he looked friendly enough; a hitchhiker with a Remington semiautomatic isn't the sort of thing that gives motorists pause in the forty-ninth state. Gallian steered his truck to the shoulder and told the kid to climb in. The hitchhiker swung his pack into the bed of the Ford and introduced himself as Alex. "Alex?" Gallian responded, fishing for a last name. "Just Alex," the young man replied, pointedly rejecting the bait. Five feet seven or eight with a wiry build, he claimed to be twenty-four years old and said he was from South Dakota. He explained that he wanted a ride as far as the edge of Denali National Park, where he intended to walk deep into the bush and "live off the land for a few months." Gallian, a union electrician, was on his way to Anchorage, 240 miles beyond Denali on the George Parks Highway; he told Alex he'd drop him off wherever he wanted. Alex's backpack looked as though it weighed only twenty-five or thirty pounds, which struck Gallian -- an accomplished hunter and woodsman -- as ...

WHAT IS AN ICONOCLAST? Jon Krakauer
www.sundancechannel.com Jon Krakauer answers the question: What is an Iconoclast? In the "Iconoclasts: Sean Penn + Jon Krakauer" episode of "Iconoclasts," Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer's bestselling novel adapted for film by Sean Penn, serves as a roadmap for their journey to Alaska. The two retrace backpacker Chris McCandless' steps along the Stampede Trail to the bus where he was found dead 15 years ago. While driving, flying in a helicopter and hiking to the shrine-like bus, the duo share a deep connection to the Alaskan landscape and discuss their thoughts on McCandless' spirit of adventure, their common bond with nature and the creative process it inspires. This episode includes music from the Into the Wild soundtrack composed and performed by Eddie Vedder. Directed by Joe Berlinger. ICONOCLASTS airs Thursdays at 10pm on Sundance Channel.

Iconoclasts: Sean Penn and Jon Krakauer Part 2
In January 1993, author Jon Krakauer published McCandless' story in that month's magazine issue of Outside. Inspired by the details of McCandless's story, Krakauer wrote and published Into the Wild in 1996 about McCandless' travels. The book was adapted into a film by Sean Penn in 2007 with Emile Hirsch portraying McCandless. That same year, McCandless's story also became the subject of Ron Lamothe's documentary The Call of the Wild. Forever alive in our Hearts Alexander Supertramp

Jon Krakauer wrote, “In any human endeavor, some fraction of it's practitioners will be motivated to pursue that activity with such concentrated focus and unalloyed passion that it will consume them utterly. As a result of this infatuation, existence overflows with purpose. Through immoderation, he experiences something akin to rapture.”
Yosemite Valley has long been regarded as the holy land for climbers and boulderers throughout the world. The origins of rock climbing lie in the 3000-foot granite walls lining the valley and the boulders that sit strewn about below these staggering monoliths.
In the late weeks of November, the Louder Than 11 crew gathered from all corners of the country to experience Yosemite Valley bouldering. As a group of passionate individuals, we enveloped ourselves in the landscape for two weeks, attacking boulders as if tomorrow would never come. On the surface, the very foundation of our identities is built on rock climbing—a sport that we believe is the greatest on the planet—but there is much more to this seemingly inherent addiction than meets the eye.
With Park Life, we strive to answer this age-old, omnipresent question: Why? By combining difficult climbing, captivating visuals, and engaging music under the all-encompassing umbrella of a professional production company, we hope to portray a unique lifestyle that has given us all a palpable sense of unwavering purpose. The long-lasting friendships, incessant failure and equally abundant success, reckless commitment and dedication driven to the point of complete and utter irresponsibility; it’s an eternal battle. We do it because we love it. At LT11 our media is always free, whether you like it or not.
