REVIEW: Gothic (1986)
Gothic is probably the most enthralling of the Byron films I've seen, presenting us with the Lord in question, the Shelleys, and Claire Claremont as they conjure up the dead at a late night dinner party. How does this evening lead Shelley to the creation of the well-known novel that is Frankenstein? Please feel free to leave comments etc. Amy x www.mcleanamy.co.uk (Full list of links on channel page)

[NSFW] Gothic; 'Somebody's Watching Me'
!!!Not worksafe!!! (or parent safe, for that matter...?) but you know that quality makes it good. (The /video/ quality, however, you can kindly blame on youtube.) Film: 'Gothic' (Ken Russel, 1986) Song: 'Somebody's Watching Me' (Rockwell, 1984) Yeah, one of those 'OMG FIRST FANVIDEO EVAR YOU GAIS', as I don't make fanvideos (I leave that to the experts) but after some enabling, a friend and I decided that this had to be done. Done, by the way, purely for the lulz; dedicated to said friend/enabler Katz for getting me to see this movie.

THIS MORTAL COIL - The Jeweller (lyrics included, 1986)
Another great song included within This Mortal Coil's series, is 'The Jeweller', a song originaly composed by the legendary psychedelic folk / rock band of the late 60s Pearls Before Swine (which can be found in their fourth album "The Use of Ashes" - 1970) Vocals on TMC cover are by Dominic Appleton and it is included in their second release "Filigree & Shadow" that came out inj September 1986. This was the first double-LP released on 4AD, and introduced the "DAD" (for double album) prefix into the label's catalog. Ivo took careful consideration in shaping the album's four sides so that they flowed together as individual wholes. This is lost somewhat on compact disc, as the entire album fits on one CD. This Mortal Coil was a gothic dream pop supergroup led by Ivo Watts-Russell, founder of the British record label 4AD. Although Watts-Russell and John Fryer were technically the only two official members, the band's recorded output featured a large rotating cast of supporting artists, many of whom were signed to, or otherwise associated with, 4AD. About half of the songs released were cover versions, often of 1960s and 1970s psychedelic and folk acts, which displayed those two genres' place in the history and formation of dream pop. On each of the band's three LPs, at least one song would also be a cover of a 4AD artist, and most of the original songs were instrumentals. Quoting the 4AD website: "This Mortal Coil was not a band, but a unique collaboration of musicians ...
