A Big Chesapeake Bay Striper
I caught this big Bass in December 2012. She was 46" and had to be at least 40 lbs. After I hooked her, except for a short pause in the beginning, she ran off line for just over a full minute. Crazy!! That gave me plenty of time to deal with my second rod.

Cleaning the Chesapeake Bay: Oyster Restoration
Located on Maryland's Western Shore, the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) Chesapeake Bay Detachment, a 168-acre facility used for research and field testing of radar, remote sensing and optical and laser technologies, is now host to the latest addition to the state's oyster restoration and revitalization effort and the Navy's commitment toward improving overall water quality and enhancing and improving existing wildlife habitats in the Bay. Working with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, oyster shell substrate and harvested oyster larvae, 'spat,' have been suspended in cages in the waters along the facility's 400-foot pier. The young oysters will remain suspended in cages for their first year of life. Once matured, the adult oysters are planted on local sanctuaries, enriching the Bay ecosystem and contributing to the Bay oyster population. According to Maryland Department of Natural Resources, the Bay's oyster population has been devastated by disease, overharvesting and water quality problems. Initiatives similar to the one at NRL allow oysters to reproduce and hopefully, over time, develop natural resistance to diseases that have imperiled native oysters and other mollusks. CHESAPEAKE BAY BLUE CRABS-HOW WE COOK THEM (1/2) Note Read Discription
Part 1 of 2. There are many variations on how to cook Chesapeake Bay blue crabs. Most have the same ingredients that we use. I learned this recipe from someone who did this for a living many years ago. Normally I would put about 1/3 of the crabs in and shake Old Bay seasoning on them, then the next third until done. At first I did not think I could cook all of them at the same time. I usually cook a whole bushel or hamper at a time and do it in two batches. The crabs went into the pot easier than normal and I had more than a third in the pot before I realized it. It is almost impossible to reverse the operation and you can see that I change my approach quickly knowing I could not get the jennie back in the bottle. I put Old Bay on 2/3 of them and then put the rest in with Old Bay on them. As long as the basket is not full to the top you can cook them without some being not totally cooked. You will notice that it was only a couple that had a small amout of green on them and they needed to be cooked with just the lid on without any heat added so they would turn completely pink. Some call the color red. We keep them on ice and only take out what we are going to eat. Shellfish spoils quickly and most people use ice to keep them fresh. After cleaning them we put the bodies in one container and the legs in another and pack them in ice in a cooler. They can keep 3 to 5 days if well iced.
