Government House (Battleford)

Government House in Battleford, Saskatchewan served as the seat for the government of the Northwest Territories between 1878 and 1883 (the area that now makes up Saskatchewan was part of the Northwest Territories until the province was created in 1905). The building was constructed in 1877 and was destroyed by fire in 2003.

The site was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1973.

Government House of Thailand

The Government House (Thai: ทำเนียบรัฐบาล; rtgs: Thamniap Ratthaban) is the offices of the Prime Minister of Thailand and the appointed cabinet ministers. It also contains conference rooms and is used for state functions and receptions of foreign guests. It consists of several palace-like structures extending over 11 acres (45,000 m²). King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) commissioned the Italian architect Annibale Rigotti to design the main building in 1923, although construction would remain incomplete as Rigotti returned to Italy after the king's death in 1925. Initially intended as a family residence for one of the king's favorite generals, the building became the Prime Minister's seat in 1941. Prime Minister Plaek Pibulsonggram then assigned Italian sculptor and artist Corrado Feroci to complete the construction (also working on the building at this point was the architect Ercole Manfredi). The main building carries a golden dome housing a statue of Phra Phrom (Brahma) and its façade resembles that of the Ca' d'Oro Palazzo in Venice.

Government House (Alberta)

Government House is the former official residence of the Lieutenant Governors of Alberta. Located in Edmonton's Glenora neighbourhood, the restored and repurposed building is currently used by the Alberta provincial government for ceremonial events, conferences, etc. The Royal Alberta Museum is housed in a separate building on the same property, about a four kilometre walk from the Legislature northwest along the banks of the North Saskatchewan River on River Valley Road beside the Victoria Golf Course, itself first developed in 1896 and Canada's oldest city-run golf course.

The property for the house was purchased by the Province of Alberta in 1910, as well as the surrounding area. Construction on the building, intended from the outset to house the Lieutenant Governor, began in 1912, and the official opening was held on October 7, 1913. The three-storey building is constructed of sandstone in the Jacobean Revival style. It was used as a royal residence between its completion in 1913 and 1937; the Legislature cited economic concerns, as well as the closing of the Ontario Government House the year previous, as reasons for the closure. However, the closure also came soon after Lieutenant Governor John C. Bowen refused to grant Royal Assent to three controversial bills passed through the Legislative Assembly, and was, along with the removal of his support staff and official car, seen as an act of retaliation by Premier William Aberhart. The building was sold, and the furniture and fixtures were sold.

Hobart

Hobart (ⁱ/ˈhoʊbɑːrt/) is the capital and most populous city of the Australian island state of Tasmania. Founded in 1803 as a penal colony, Hobart is Australia's second oldest capital city after Sydney, New South Wales. The city is located in the state's south-east on the estuary of the Derwent River, making it the most southern of Australia's capital cities and its harbour forms the second-deepest natural port in the world.

In June 2013, the city had a greater area population of approximately 217,973. Its skyline is dominated by the 1,271-metre (4,170 ft) Mount Wellington, and much of the city's waterfront consists of reclaimed land. It is the financial and administrative heart of Tasmania, serving as the home port for both Australian and French Antarctic operations and acting as a major tourist hub, with over 1.192 million visitors in 2011/2012. The metropolitan area is often referred to as Greater Hobart, to differentiate it from the City of Hobart, one of the five local government areas that cover the city.

Hobart (magazine)

Hobart is an American literary magazine that publishes fiction, poetry, interviews, and essays. Founded as an online magazine in 2001, Hobart grew into a biannual print magazine in 2003. Past issues have been dedicated to topics such as luck, the outdoors, and games. In addition to print and web content, in 2006 Hobart added a book division (Short Flight/Long Drive Books), with Elizabeth Ellen as editor.

Several pieces appearing in Hobart have received awards or were selected for anthologies: recent selections include Roxane Gay's story North Country and Mike Meginnis' Navigators that were selected for The Best American Short Stories 2012 .
