Burnt River may refer to:
The Long Trail is a hiking trail located in Vermont, running the length of the state. It is the oldest long-distance trail in the United States, constructed between 1910 and 1930 by the Green Mountain Club. The club remains the primary organization responsible for the trail, and is recognized by the state legislature as "the founder, sponsor, defender, and protector" of the Long Trail System.
The Long Trail was conceived on March 11, 1910 by James P. Taylor who was at the time the Assistant Headmaster of the Vermont Academy in Saxtons River, Vermont. Taylor lobbied other Vermont residents who shared his dream of a mission to "make the Vermont mountains play a larger part in the life of the people by protecting and maintaining the Long Trail system and fostering, through education, the stewardship of Vermont's hiking trails and mountains". In 1910, work began on the construction of America's first long distance hiking path. The GMC completed the Long Trail in 1930.
Burned or burnt may refer to:
A river is a natural flowing watercourse, usually freshwater, flowing towards an ocean, sea, lake or another river. In some cases a river flows into the ground and becomes dry at the end of its course without reaching another body of water. Small rivers can be referred to using names such as stream, creek, brook, rivulet, and rill. There are no official definitions for the generic term river as applied to geographic features, although in some countries or communities a stream is defined by its size. Many names for small rivers are specific to geographic location; examples are "run" in some parts of the United States, "burn" in Scotland and northeast England, and "beck" in northern England. Sometimes a river is defined as being larger than a creek, but not always: the language is vague.
Rivers are part of the hydrological cycle. Water generally collects in a river from precipitation through a drainage basin from surface runoff and other sources such as groundwater recharge, springs, and the release of stored water in natural ice and snowpacks (e.g. from glaciers). Potamology is the scientific study of rivers while limnology is the study of inland waters in general.
Burnt Ranch is a census-designated place (CDP) in Trinity County, California. It has a school and a post office. The ZIP Code is 95527. The community is inside area code 530. Burnt Ranch sits at an elevation of 1,502 feet (458 m). The 2010 United States census reported Burnt Ranch's population was 281.
In prehistoric times, the area was inhabited by people speaking a form of the Chimariko language, which was spoken along the Trinity River from the mouth of South Fork at Salyer as far upstream as Big Bar; their principal village was at present-day Burnt Ranch.
Burnt Ranch is so named because Canadian miners burned down an Indian rancheria here in 1849.
On 2 August 1858, J.W. Winslet's party of 16 men from Burnt Ranch were ambushed by the Whilkut in the Bald Hills along a trail to the Hupa villages, killing one man and wounding Winslet; the party retreated to Pardee's Ranch.
Burnt Ranch was destroyed in the spring of 1863 by an Indian raiding party.
Burnt Ranch became a temporary camp from May to November 1864, used by 1st Battalion California Volunteer Mountaineers while moving Indians to Fort Humboldt.

I spent two weeks out on the west coast spending most of our time in Hood River. We managed to get on The Burnt Ranch Gorge of the Trinity, The Lower Wind River, 4 laps of The Green Truss, 3 laps of The Little White Salmon and a park and huck at Celestial. We scouted Eagle Creek and Bridal Veil but both were too low. Thanks to any locals for showing us the lines. Can't wait to get back out there next year!
I had the opportunity to help restore the habitat along one of my favorite rivers after it had been severely burnt by the Elk Complex fire. After 4 months of closures the river is once again open and the fishing is so-so :) Shot entirely with my GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition Music by Reece Hancock

A recap of a week on the Long Trail with a couple of friends of mine. The Long Trail stretches the length of Vermont and is over 270 miles long. One of the friends I was hiking with, Brenny, completed the whole hike in about 25 days, 7 of which I tagged along for. The portion I hiked started at Sherburne Pass off Route 4 and headed north over Brandon Gap, Middlebury Gap, Middlebury Snow Bowl, Lincoln Gap, Mt. Abe, Mt. Lincoln (Sugarbush South), Mt. Ellen (Sugarbush North), Starks Mountain (Mad River Glen), The Appalachian Gap, and Burnt Rock. Part 1 of 2. Part 2: http://vimeo.com/1632989

Calm and hospitable Uglich famous for its monuments to ancient Russian architecture that fit perfectly surrounding landscapes stands on steep bank of the Volga river. It was recorded for the first time in the Ipatievsky Chronicles and dates back to 1148 year. However local sources of information claim the city was founded by Prince Yan Pleskovitich in 937. Like most Russian ancient cities Uglich passed through many appanage princes, burnt to the ground and was restored again. But this city is mostly known for the tragic events of the end of the 16th century that changed history of Russia. Today Uglich is one of the most beautiful Volga cities.

After hiking and driving through the fall mecca that is Jirisan National Park for 2 days, Courtney and I came upon a little village with the most incredible smell of fall campfire cooking. In Dalgung Village, restaurants line the river with open fire cooked black pig. The smoke from the wood permeates a 5 kilometer radius with an incredible fall smell. The pork is cut thin and cooked directly on the extremely hot fire of whole logs until it is incredibly crispy and almost burnt. Tables line the river. Dining takes place under the trees. This experience was incredible.
