Portuguese Monarchy
Portuguese Monarchy
The Kingdom of Portugal was Portugal's general designation under the monarchy. The kingdom was located in the west of the Iberian Peninsula, Europe and existed from 1139 to 1910. It was replaced by the Portuguese First Republic after the Lisbon Regicide (1908) and ultimately, the 5 October 1910 revolution. The Second County of Portugal (1093--1139), successor to the First County of Portugal (868--1071), became a kingdom on 26 July 1139 when Afonso I was proclaimed king of Portugal. In 1908, King Carlos I of Portugal was killed in a regicide at Lisbon. The Portuguese monarchy lasted until 5 October 1910, when through a revolution, it was overthrown and Portugal was proclaimed a republic. The overthrow of the Portuguese monarchy in 1910 led to a 16 year struggle to sustain parliamentary democracy under republicanism.

Princess Amelie of Orleans, Queen of Portugal
Amélie's paternal grandparents were Prince Ferdinand Philippe, Duke of Orléans, and Duchess Helena of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Her maternal grandparents were Prince Antoine, Duke of Montpensier, and the Infanta Luisa Fernanda of Spain. The Dukes of Orléans and Montpensier were siblings, both sons of Louis-Philippe I, King of the French, and Maria Amalia of the Two Sicilies. On 22 May 1886, Amélie married Carlos, Prince Royal of Portugal. He was the eldest son of King Luís I of Portugal and Maria Pia of Savoy. He was at the time the heir apparent to the throne. The bride was almost twenty-one years old and the groom about twenty-three. The marriage had been arranged by their families after several attempts to arrange a marriage for her with a member of the Austrian or Spanish dynasties. At first, the marriage was not popular and Queen Maria Pia was expecting to marry Carlos to the Archduchess Marie Valerie of Austria, Princess Mathilde of Saxony, Princess Viktoria of Prussia or Princess Victoria of Wales. However, Amélie and Carlos came to live quite harmoniously with each other. They had three children: Luís Filipe, Duke of Braganza (21 March 1887 -- 1 February 1908). Infanta Maria Anna of Portugal (born and deceased on 14 December 1887). Manuel II of Portugal (19 March 1889 -- 2 July 1932). Amélie played an active role as a queen, and somewhat softened the growing criticism towards the monarchy with her personal popularity, though she did receive some criticism for her ...

Portugal 2011
Portugal, officially the Portuguese Republic, is a country located in southwestern Europe on the Iberian Peninsula. Portugal is the westernmost country of Europe, and is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and south and by Spain to the north and east. The Atlantic archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira are part of Portugal. The land within the borders of today's Portuguese Republic has been continuously settled since prehistoric times. In 29 BC the territory was occupied by the Gallaeci and the Lusitanians when it was integrated in the Roman Empire as the provinces of Lusitania and part of Gallaecia. Roman settlers strongly influenced Portuguese culture, particularly the Portuguese language, mostly derived from Latin. In the 5th century, after the fall of the Roman empire, it was occupied by several Germanic peoples, mainly the Suevi and the Visigoths. In the early 8th century Muslim Moors conquered those Christian kingdoms, occupying most of the Iberian Peninsula. During the Christian Reconquista (English: Reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula), the County of Portugal was settled, as part of the Kingdom of Galicia. With the establishment of the Kingdom in 1139, recognized in 1143, and the stabilization of its borders by 1249, Portugal claims to be the oldest European nation-state. In the 15th and 16th centuries, as the result of maritime exploration, Portugal established a global empire that included possessions in Africa, Asia, Oceania and South America, becoming ...

Portugal
"A Portuguesa" During the 19th century, Portugal was characterized by the internal struggles between republicans and supporters of a constitutional monarchy, which caused a deep rift in the country. In 1910 a coup of Portuguese republican officers against King Emanuel II abolished the rule of the Royal House of Braganca. Teófilo Fernandes Braga became the first president of the Republic; he proclaimed civil liberties and emancipated women in family law. An agricultural reform failed, however, because of the opposition of the aristocracy. The gravest inheritance of the republic was the desolate economy which was completely oriented towards trade with Great Britain. The inner conflict caused the quick succession of eight presidents and forty-four governments till 1926. The Weltkrieg, which Portugal joined on the side of the Entente, made matters worse. The merchant marine suffered heavy losses from the German U-Boats, and trade with the colonies collapsed, but the Portuguese possessions remained untouched, as the country was too far from German armies and protected by the British government. The situation escalated with the end of relationships with Britain, due to the Socialist revolution in England. There were two military coup attempts in 1926 during which the republican constitution was abolished. General António Óscar Fragoso Carmona took the reigns of the government and was confirmed in office through elections held in 1928. He founded the Second Republic which he led ...

Luís Cabral was appointed the first President of Guinea-Bissau. Following independence local black soldiers that fought along with the Portuguese Army against the PAIGC guerrillas were slaughtered by the thousands. England 1-0 Portugal Official highlights | Under 17 International Friendly
A Jack Jebb header ensured England won The FA International U17 Tournament for the second consecutive year at the expense of their Portuguese opposition. Arriving in the box unmarked, the midfielder met Callum Robinson's 42nd-minute cross and nodded beyond the Portuguese goalkeeper, Palha, to give the Young Lions a triumphant conclusion to this annual friendly competition. It also means the trophy stays in England after last year's U17s beat Australia, Portugal and Turkey to the prize 12 months ago. John Peacock's young side kicked off this year's Tournament with a deserved 1-0 victory over Italy on Wednesday, before slipping to a narrow defeat to the Czech Republic on Friday evening. But they bounced back well and put in an impressive display against a talented looking Portugal side. England controlled the game for large spells and they also defended well when the visitors were looking for the equaliser, and their maturity and game management will certainly have pleased their Head Coach ahead of October's Euro qualifiers, for which this Tournament is used as preparation. England had the better of the ball in the opening exchanges, although neither side were able to test either goalkeeper's credentials early on; it took until the 16th minute for the first attempt at goal, through Portuguese winger Christian, after Joe Rothwell had been dispossessed by Joao Gomes in the centre of the park. Portugal took heart from this albeit off target effort and registered another one ...

Changing of the Guard - Belém Palace
The Belém National Palace, or alternately National Palace of Belém, (Portuguese: Palácio Nacional de Belém) has, overtime, been the official residence of Portuguese monarchs and, after the installation of the First Republic, the Presidents of the Portuguese Republic. Located in the civil parish of Santa Maria de Belém, the palace is located on a small hill that fronts the Praça Afonso de Albuquerque, near the historical centre of Belém and the Monastery of the Jeronimos, close to the waterfront of the Tagus River. The five buildings that makeup the main façade of the Palace date back to the second half of the 17th century, and were built at a time when, more and more, the monarchy and nobility were escaping the urbanized confines of Lisbon.

in memoriam bernardo sassetti - alice soundtrack (by Tiago Morais Morgado) In this short simple and spontaneous work of audio re-engeneering and visuals work, I would like to honestly honour the memory of one of the greatest portuguese musicians of all time, bernanrdo sassetti. you can read about this amazing musician who left us 10 may 2012 below. love. the original song is a soundtrack for the movie alice, and features a language which I would consider to be inbetween ryuichi sakamoto and philipp glass. in terms of audio re-engeneering, I made parallel multiband limiting, parallel eq, and sub-harmonics, boost, overall limiting, and a bit of auxiliary reverberation. I did the visuals with quartz composer trying to approach the raster noton visuals aesthetic, because I think the aesthetic plan of the song, has something to do with the impressions that I take from alva noto with ryuichi sakamoto, although in terms of approach it's technically different about bernardo sassetti Bernardo Sassetti (24 June 1970[1] -- 10 May 2012[2][3][4]) was a Portuguese jazz pianist and film composer.
