Cape Grim is the northwestern point of Tasmania, Australia.

It is the location of the Cape Grim Baseline Air Pollution Station ^[1] which is operated by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology ^[2] in a joint programme with the CSIRO.

It was established in 1976 and has been operating ever since. What makes Cape Grim unique is its isolated geographic location.

The next land mass directly west of Cape Grim is not Africa, but the southern tip of Argentina. Winds that make their way to Cape Grim from Antarctica and the Indian Ocean hit no significant land mass. Air pollution values collected at Cape Grim represent the closest representation attainable of a global average.^{[citation needed]}

In 1828 Victory Hill at Cape Grim was the site of the Cape Grim massacre of 30 aborigines from the Pennemukeer band of the North West tribe by four shepherds in response to sheep being driven over the cliff six weeks earlier by the Peerapper band.^[3]

Neil Arthur Perry (born 29 June 1957) is an Australian chef, restaurateur, author and television presenter. He also is the co-ordinator for Qantas Flight Catering under his company Rockpool Consulting and has a food brand sold under his name, available at Woolworths Supermarkets.

Perry co-owns and is executive chef of restaurants in Australia. In Sydney his current stable consists of three restaurants located in the city's CBD: his flagship fine-diner Rockpool, modern Chinese restaurant Spice Temple, and factory-job steakhouse Rockpool Bar & Grill. The original incarnation of Rockpool Bar & Grill meanwhile is located in Melbourne. Former restaurants operated by Perry include Wockpool and XO, both which have since closed.^{[2][not in citation given]}

Early life[link]

Perry was born in Sydney and attended Newington College and Drummoyne High School. At Newington he wasn't allowed to have long hair and so he used to grow his hair in the holidays and roll it up in combs when he went back to school. The school sergeant recognised what he was doing and sent him to the barber to have it cut off. In Year 10 he rang his mother and said; "I'm leaving school." So he left and went to Drummoyne High and didn't cut his hair for two years. That was how a ponytail became his signature look.^[3]

Prior to joining the hospitality industry Perry started an apprenticeship as a hairdresser before dropping out and working as a waiter. This is where he found his calling as a chef.

Perry's career in the hospitality industry began with managing Sails restaurants at the Sydney suburb of McMahons Point, and then at Rose Bay. This was where most of Neil's floor management skills were learnt. By the time he was 24 he found himself gravitating towards the kitchen, and realised his passion for cooking by working with, and learning from over the ensuing years, chefs such as Damien Pignolet, Gay Bilson, Stephanie Alexander, Steve Manfredi and David Thompson. Although he uses the title, Perry never actually completed a chef apprenticeship.^[4]

Neil became head chef at Barrenjoey Restaurant, Palm Beach and was given creative control over Perry’s in Paddington. In October 1986, Neil opened the Blue Water Grill at Bondi Beach which became an overnight success.^{[citation needed]} He then opened Rockpool in February 1989 with his business partner and cousin Trish Richards.

In 2007, Perry opened Rockpool Bar & Grill in Melbourne. Less formal than Rockpool, the restaurant is an upmarket steakhouse, located in Crown Casino. High quality beef cooked over wood-fire grill, supported by a modern and international à la carte menu form the backbone of the food served.^[5] In spite of the riskiness of opening a large restaurant (serving up to 200 people a day) in a venue as high profile and lucrative as Crown Casino, the restaurant has proved a major success for Perry.^[6] Rockpool Bar & Grill Melbourne has also received positive reviews from critics since opening, including being awarded two coveted "chefs hats" in the Melbourne Good Food Guide.^[7]

Meanwhile this same year, having maintained Rockpool for almost two decades as a Sydney fine dining restaurant, Perry finally decided to close the restaurant and reopen with a change of direction as a "casual seafood venue" instead. Perry cited a lack of will to continue operating Rockpool at the demanding and highly competitive level he had been as the main reason for the change.^[8] The restaurant was renamed Rockpool (fish) and continued to receive positive reviews in its new form.^{[citation needed]}

Though this new incarnation of Rockpool as Rockpool (fish) had only been open for a brief time, in mid-2008 Perry had a change of heart and suddenly announced that Rockpool would be returning to its original form as a fine-diner. As Perry put it: "Rockpool classic".^[9] The restaurant has since reopened, with an ethos and menu akin to its old form.

2009 saw the opening of two more Perry restaurants in Sydney, both located in the same art deco building on Bligh St in Sydney's CBD. First to open was Spice Temple in the basement level. Like the now-defunct XO Perry opened in Surry Hills some years ago, Spice Temple represents another foray by Perry into more traditional Asian cuisine—specifically regional Chinese food this time—given a sophisticated polish. Spice Temple was soon followed by the opening in the above level of a sibling installment of Melbourne's successful Rockpool Bar & Grill.

Neil also heads a consultation team for the Australian flagship airline Qantas, whom which he creates and controls in-flight menus. Menus are developed quarterly for International First and Business Class travellers, with the team overseeing the implementation and introduction to catering centres at key ports.

Charity work[link]

Neil Perry is a Board Member of the Bestest Foundation for Kids.^[10] Bestest raises funds for children who fall outside the standard boundaries of the larger established charities and helps get these children support to battle an illness, obtain equipment for disabilities, gain access to education or provide urgent assistance to children at risk. 100% of all funds raised goes directly to children in need.^[11]

Perry is a principal supporter of the Bestest Gala Dinner and has managed to secure the support of Chefs from around the world to donate time and resources for this charity dinner. In 2008 over 50 chefs from Australia’s best restaurants participated with teams from Matt Moran (Aria), Guillaume Brahimi (Guillaume at Bennelong), Philip Johnson (E’cco), Shannon Bennet(Vue de Monde) and Scott Hallsworth (Nobu).

The series premiered 21 May 2007 on The LifeStyle Channel. It shows the journey of Perry setting up a steakhouse venue in Melbourne. Perry deals with set-up costs of $4.5million.

The first episode shows before Perry opening up Rockpool Bar & Grill Melbourne, he was involved in expanding the Rockpool brand to London but had failed in a deal to establish a location in London. By the end of the series, he successfully opened Rockpool Melbourne and received good reviews for Rockpool Sydney and Melbourne. He was also looking to expand the brand into New York or London.

Nicole Dawn Livingstone OAM (born 24 June 1971) is a retired Australian Olympic swimmer and a television sports commentator and radio presenter. Livingstone competed for Australia in three summer Olympics - 1988, 1992, and 1996 - winning both individual and team medals. She was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. ^[1]. She retired from swimming after the 1996 Olympics (Atlanta, Georgia, USA) and joined the Australian sports network Nine Network as a host of Nine's Wide World of Sport, and a commentator for swimming. Livingstone is currently a radio presenter for Melbourne station SEN 1116 and presenter on Network Ten. She was born in Melbourne, Victoria.

Livingstone is active in promoting drug-free sports in Australia. She is involved in the Australian Olympic Committee's "Live Clean, Play Clean" anti-doping education program. She is also a board member of the Australian Sports Drug Agency (ASDA), whose mission is to combat drug use in sports.

Livingstone held the Australian record for the 200 m backstroke, with at time of 2:10.20, set on 31 July 1992 at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain for 16 years. Meagen Nay broke the Australian record twice at the 2008 Australian Olympic Trials. Notably, she is the only Australian swimmer to have competed in six successive Pan Pacific Swimming Championships.

She was awarded the Order of Australia Medal on 9 June 1997 for service to swimming as a representative at state, national and international levels.^[2]

She was known for a period as Nicole Stevenson, when she was married to Australian cyclist Clayton Stevenson.

She worked for Wide World of Sports as a host of the self titled program and as a host of Sports Saturday. She was host of Any Given Sunday with Mick Molloy in 2006.

In March 2007, Livingstone was appointed the sports presenter on Nine News PM Edition. She was replaced by Tim Sheridan.

In November 2008, Livingstone resigned from the Nine Network to work for Network Ten's new sports channel One HD which commenced in 2009. Livingstone's final appearance on the Nine Network was on Nine's Wide World of Sport.

In 2011, Livingstone has been a fill in presenter on Network Ten's Sports Tonight, a panellist on Thursday Night Live, sports presenter on Melbourne's Weekend Ten Evening News and also a fill in presenter for Carrie Bickmore on The 7PM Project.
