The largest settlement in the ceremonial county (in the unitary Borough of Darlington) is the town of Darlington.[3] The county has an industrial heritage and its economy was historically based on coal and iron mining.[4] It is an area of regeneration and promoted as a tourist destination.[4] The ceremonial county borders Tyne and Wear, North Yorkshire, Cumbria and Northumberland and forms part of the North East England region.Many counties are named after their principal town, and the expected form here would be Durhamshire.[3] The county is commonly known as County Durham but was officially named Durham until at least 1997.[6] The structural change legislation in 2009,[7] however, referred to the county of County Durham. The former postal county was known as "County Durham" to distinguish it from the post town of Durham. It was granted city status by Royal Charter by Queen Elizabeth I in 1590, and was made a county borough in 1889 which gave it administrative independence from its county, Somerset. The city became part of Avon when that county was created in 1974. Since 1996, when Avon was abolished, Bath has been the principal centre of the unitary authority of Bath and North East Somerset. The city was first established as a spa with the Latin name, Aquae Sulis ("the waters of Sulis") by the Romans in AD 43, although verbal tradition suggests that Bath was known before then. They built baths and a temple on the surrounding hills of Bath in the valley of the River Avon around hot springs. Edgar was crowned king of England at Bath Abbey in 973. Much later, it became popular as a spa town during the Georgian era, which led to a major expansion that left a heritage of exemplary Georgian architecture crafted from Bath Stone. The City of Bath was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1987. Durham is a city in north east England. It is within the County Durham local government district, and is the county town of the larger ceremonial county. It lies to the south of Newcastle upon Tyne, Chester-le-Street and Sunderland and to the north of Darlington. Durham is well known for its Norman cathedral and 11th-century castle, both designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986. The castle has been the home of Durham University since 1832. HM Prison Durham is also located close to the city centre. This video mainly features a walk along the streets of Durham from the cathedral to the Railway Station. No external audio inputs in this one (this camera does record audio, but with an on board mic, so quality isn't good) so if you want to use it for a short film, use an external DAT/sound recorder and a Clapper Board. If you are really into the video side of the DSLR cameras then the new Canon 550D looks very impressive to me as it has an audio input connection so that you can use an external microphone.
