Maverick director Robert 'Putney Swope' Downey Sr. (father of Robert Downey Jr.) directed this crazy movie about a dog pound featuring talking dogs in 1970. An R-rated cult classic, some of the voiceovers were provided by respected actors, but unlike Putney Swope this movie is (undeservedly) almost forgotten. This private pressing white label soundtrack (with hand-stamped cover!) is extremely rare, and incredibly funky. 'For God's sake do not broadcast!', the cover states, and you can hear why - the lyrics are very funny and completely obscene. Half instrumental and half vocal, it's a small group raw funk monster, filled with huge beats, choppy guitar and big horns. Remortgage the house, sell the car, cash in your stocks and buy it - superb stuff. Enjoy......

The rock drumming GIANT turned down both Jimmy Page's offer to form Led Zeppelin and Robert Fripp's to start King Crimson (from out of the ashes of Giles, Giles & Fripp), quit the original Jeff Beck Group lineup over Jeff's notorious career-casualness (Dunbar wanted to play daily, not monthly), lost Hendrix's coin flip to Mitch Mitchell to be the Experience drummer (shame on you, Jimi) before being aggressively courted by Frank Zappa to play the most complex arrangements in rock. Later going on to drum monster David Bowie hits "Rebel Rebel" and "1984," Journey's "Lights" and "Wheel In The Sky," Jefferson Starship's "Jane," and Whitesnake's "Here I Go Again," among many,many others, his studio credits are enough for ten healthy men. Never one to substitute sensitivity toward and understanding of the composition and being in the musical moment for mere rudiments-mastery, every number is built up thru tension and dynamics, the fruits of all the woodshedding saved for when it'll count the most...musically!

I didn't realise it existed until recently - obviously, someone wasn't paying enough attention - and I was pleased to pick up a copy. Stocking a Reborn Lake with 560 Fish and 7 Pound Bass

In 1970, Grovers Mill Pond in West Windsor was all but dead. An overabundance of plant life had sucked the oxygen from the water rendering it inhospitable to aquatic wildlife. Last year, with a federal grant secured by Congressman Rush Holt, the Army Corps of Engineers restored the pond by removing 65000 pounds of silt and organic matter that were choking the life from it. This spring, using funds from the sale of fishing, hunting and trapping licenses, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) restocked on the pond with warm water game fish. On April 20th, the first day of Earth Week, the DEP put the last of the fish into the pond with a little help from the 5th graders of the Millstone River School.

Here's how I did it without using the technical lingo: While whoever removed the red tint in the original cleanup of this video did an excellent job, the audio remastering was poor. Here I removed hiss but left just a touch as part of that frequency is related to the cymbals. Then I reduced that muddled "AM transistor radio effect" which actually lowered the overall volume. I went back and raised only the necessary frequencies (instruments, vocals, etc.) While not exactly digital stereo as this is a poor recording to begin with at least the music is more 'isolated or out in front' and you can even hear the crispness and indiviualism of the audience clapping. And where is this version of the Silent Sun Charimso promo film available? Music from Australia and New Zealand during the early 1970's: Madder Lake performing on Hit Scene the hit single '12 Pound Toothbrush' taken from the 1973 album 'Stillpoint'. Don't laugh, but Madder Lake once caused Queen to be booed off the stage! During their first visit to Australia, Queen played at the 1974 Sunbury festival, to a hostile crowd who were keen to see Madder Lake. After being booed, bottled and heckled by the stage announcer; Freddie Mercury turned to the crowd and announced that the next time his band were to visit Australia, they would be one of the world's biggest bands. Queen then left the stage to make way for Madder Lake. Heres a virtual movie of the extraordinary Ezra Pound (1885 - 1972) surely one of the most influential and controversial poets of the 20th or any other century reading his exquisite little poem "Lonely Pear Tree" and comes from his collection of works "The Confucian Odes".. The sound recording was made in Spoleto, Italy,in the summer of 1970 Ezra Weston Loomis Pound (30 October 1885 -- 1 November 1972) was an American expatriate poet and critic, and a major figure in the early modernist movement in poetry. He became known for his role in developing Imagism, which, in reaction to the Victorian and Georgian poets, favored tight language, unadorned imagery, and a strong correspondence between the verbal and musical qualities of the verse and the mood it expressed. His best-known works include Ripostes (1912), Hugh Selwyn Mauberley (1920), and his unfinished 120-section epic, The Cantos, which consumed his middle and late career, and was published between 1917 and 1969.[1] Working in London in the early 20th century as foreign editor of several American literary magazines, Pound helped to discover and shape the work of contemporaries such as TS Eliot, James Joyce, Robert Frost, and Ernest Hemingway. It was Pound who was responsible for the publication in 1915 of Eliot's "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock", and for the serialization from 1918 of Joyce's Ulysses.
