Fazeley is a small town and civil parish in the District of Lichfield, Staffordshire, England. Fazeley is located on the outskirts of Tamworth and the civil parish of Fazeley also includes Mile Oak and Bonehill.
It sits astride the junction of the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal and Coventry Canal; at Fazeley Junction are a couple of multi storey mills. Fazeley is also adjacent to Drayton Manor, formerly the home of Robert Peel and now a theme park and zoo.
The First Annual Fazeley Festival and Mile Oak Mile Charity hop took place on 15 September 2007.
Sitting in the centre of Fazeley, the Town Hall opened in 1898 and was named the Victoria Memorial Hall, commemorating the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria, and James Eadie paid for both the cost of its construction, £3,000, and the land on which it stands, having signalled his intentions in this respect in 1896.
James Eadie intended that the Hall should benefit the inhabitants of Fazeley and help to promote their welfare. His vision was that the Hall would be used for public meetings, lectures and concerts and contain reading rooms. He even speculated that technical classes might some day be held "for the better training of workmen in their several crafts and industries."
The first of three long days begins in this video as I head south from Fazeley towards Birmingham and the many, many locks I will have to go through to ascend to its giddy height. In this video, I move to Curdworth which is just outside the Birmingham suburbs. Finally the big day is here: a massive 27 locks await my pleasure on the way from Curdworth into the middle of Birmingham. It was a warm, sunny day and a lot of effort - I ached for several days afterwards - but it was rather satisfying. The route goes down the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal, up the Aston and Farmers Bridge lock flights into the centre of the city. Fazeley Junction is at the junction of the Coventry Canal (Main Line - Hawkesbury to Fazeley) with the Birmingham Canal Navigations (Birmingham and Fazeley Canal - Main Line) and the Birmingham Canal Navigations (Birmingham and Fazeley Canal - along route of Coventry Canal). The turn onto the Birmingham and Fazeley wasn't quite the smooth "round in one" I would have hoped for but a quick touch of "slow astern both" avoided any bank nudging unpleasantness so not bad for a once a year steerer! The skipper of our good friend nb Katie of AWAY4AWHILE hotel boats had an interesting technique for this turn. Halfway and leaving the boat in slow ahead, he leapt ashore holding his centre line and with a mighty heave ho hauled Katie's pointy end around the turn. As we pulled onto the visitor...
Colver and Fazeley en route to Henley 1997. The busy waterway at Henley Festival
From Atherstone Bottom Lock No 11 to the Visitor Moorings at Fazeley Junction is a cruise of eight and a half miles and includes the two Glascote Locks and the Tame Aqueduct. This is along the main line of the Coventry Canal before the turn at Fazeley Junction onto the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal. As we were leaving Bradley Green after a quick stop for water, a single handed boat came through the bridge and gave us a most interesting demonstration of his mooring technique. Pointy end against towing path, run along side of boat and leap, rope in hand, as the boat went backwards out into the cut! At Grendon Dock we came upon a boat either winding or turning from the dock, decorated in flat grey primer along one side and green coachwork along the other. For some reason best known to hi...
Another chance to test my new Flip Ultra HD camera. The picture quality is excellent but battery life is poor. Will try longer life batteries next.

The Glascote Locks Nos 12 & 13 are situated in Tamworth, Staffordshire. They are the last locks on the Coventry Canal in the direction of Fazeley, the junction with the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal and Fradley, the terminus of the Coventry and junction with the Trent and Mersey Canal. We arrived third in the queue to lock down behind our good friend nb Katie of AWAY4AWHILE hotel boats, who told us that when he arrived there was a queue of ten boats. Apparently some kind soul earlier in the day had neglected the close the gates and/or paddles of the bottom lock and drained the pound between the two locks. When this sort of thing happens it takes some time to get the pound back to a level where passage is straightforwards. So please remember to check you have closed all the gates and ...
