Sri Meenakshi Temple in Madurai, India
Sri Meenakshi Temple in Madurai is the most beautiful temple I have ever seen in my life. I have travelled a lot and I have seen a lot, but this temple was beyond anything i have ever seen before. The temple complex is 6 hectares and has 12 very decorative gopurams (towers) ranging from 45-50 meter tall. These towers are decorated with rich carvings of celestial and animal figures. Inside between the statues and finely sculpted columns, you will find a frantic activity of tailors and shops crammed into crevices. The video below shows a few glimpses of the spectacular temple.

Angkor Wat Built by Descendant of Raja Raja Cholan - சூர்யவர்மன்.
Angkor Wat is a temple complex at Angkor, Cambodia, built by King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century as his state temple and capital city. As the best-preserved temple at the site, it is the only one to have remained a significant religious centre since its foundation -- first Hindu, dedicated to the god Vishnu, then Buddhist. The temple is at the top of the high classical style of Khmer architecture. Angkor Wat combines two basic plans of Khmer temple architecture: the temple mountain and the later galleried temple, based on early South Indian Hindu architecture, with key features such as the Jagati. It is designed to represent Mount Meru, home of the devas in Hindu mythology: within a moat and an outer wall 3.6 kilometres (2.2 mi) long are three rectangular galleries, each raised above the next. At the centre of the temple stands a quincunx of towers. The initial design and construction of the temple took place in the first half of the 12th century, during the reign of Suryavarman II (ruled 1113 -- c. 1150). Dedicated to Vishnu, it was built as the king's state temple and capital city. In the late 13th century, Angkor Wat gradually moved from Hindu to Theravada Buddhist use, which continues to the present day.

7 Wonders of India: Mahabalipuram
Mahabalipuram is a temple town situated along the shores of the Bay of Bengal about 60 kms from the south Indian city of Chennai. Monolithic rock carved temples are refreshingly uncluttered, unlike later grandiose Dravidian architecture and tower over the waves behind a protective breakwater. This group of sanctuaries, founded by the Pallava kings, was carved out of rock along the Coromandel coast in the 7th and 8th centuries. It dates back to the 7th century when it was a thriving port of the Pallava Empire. There are eight rathas at Mahabalipuram, out of which five are named after the 'Pandavas' (five brothers) of Mahabharata and one after Draupadi. This site is also called Mamallapuram, named after the great wrestler Mamalla, the title of Pallava king Narasimha Varman I.

Mahabalipuram - Mamallapuram, Tamilnadu, India. A film by Sumit Khosla
Mahabalipuram, derived from 'Mamallapuram' (Tamil: மாமல்லபுரம்) is a town in Kancheepuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It has an average elevation of 12 metres (39 feet). Mahabalipuram was a 7th century port city of the South Indian dynasty of the Pallavas around 60 km south from the city of Chennai in Tamil Nadu. The name Mamallapuram is believed to have been given after the Pallava king Narasimhavarman I, who took on the epithet Maha-malla (great wrestler), as the favourite sport of the Pallavas was wrestling. It has various historic monuments built largely between the 7th and the 9th centuries, and has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. HISTORY The temples of Mamallapuram, portraying events described in the Mahabharata, built largely during the reigns of Narasimhavarman and his successor Rajasimhavarman, showcase the movement from rock-cut architecture to structural building. The mandapa or pavilions and the rathas or shrines shaped as temple chariots are from the granite rock face, while the famed Shore Temple, erected half a century later, is built from dressed stone. What makes Mamallapuram so culturally resonant are the influences it absorbs and disseminates. The Shore Temple includes many bas reliefs, including one 100 ft. long and 45 ft. high, carved out of granite. All but one of the rathas from the first phase of Pallava architecture are modelled on the Buddhist viharas or monasteries and chaitya halls with several cells ...

Angkor wat - Cambodia 2007
Angkor Wat (Khmer: អង្គរវត្ត) is the largest Hindu temple complex and the largest religious monument in the world. The temple was built by a Tamil king Suryavarman II in the early 12th century in Yasodharapura (Khmer: យសោធរបុរៈ, present-day Angkor), the capital of the Khmer Empire, as his state temple and eventual mausoleum. Breaking from the Shaivism tradition of previous kings, Angkor Wat was instead dedicated to Vishnu. As the best-preserved temple at the site, it is the only one to have remained a significant religious centre since its foundation -- first Hindu, dedicated to the god Vishnu, then Buddhist. The temple is at the top of the high classical style of Khmer architecture. It has become a symbol of Cambodia, appearing on its national flag, and it is the country's prime attraction for visitors. Angkor Wat combines two basic plans of Khmer temple architecture: the temple mountain and the later galleried temple, based on early Dravidian Architecture, with key features such as the Jagati. It is designed to represent Mount Meru, home of the devas in Hindu mythology: within a moat and an outer wall 3.6 kilometres (2.2 mi) long are three rectangular galleries, each raised above the next. At the centre of the temple stands a quincunx of towers. Unlike most Angkorian temples, Angkor Wat is oriented to the west; scholars are divided as to the significance of this. The temple is admired for the grandeur and harmony of the architecture, its extensive bas ...

Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple
The Madurai Meenakshi (eyes like that of a fish; meen=fish; akshi=eyes) Amman temple may be considered as the apotheosis of Dravidian architecture. The 11 towers ('gopurams') with their intricate stucco work multi-coloured statues of gods, goddesses, animals and other mythological figures are a masterpiece. Some important aspects are: 1. Built between 13th. And 16th. Centuries. 2. Four of them (9-storeyed) are the four main entrances. 3. South tower is the tallest (170 ft.) and the most attractive. 4. Oldest is the one of the eastern side. 5. Five musical pillars, near the North Tower, each consisting of 22 smaller pillars carved out of a single stone, produce different notes when tapped. 6. It is considered proper to enter the temple complex through the Ashta Shakti Mandapam to first worship Devi Meenakshi and then Lord Sundareshwarar. Over the entrance, there is a scriptural representation of Devi Meenakshi's wedding. 7. 1008 brass lamps may be seen in the Meenakshi Naicken. 8. It is believed that Indra bathed in the Golden Lotus Tank to purify himself of his sin. Also, it is believed that Lord Shiva performed a miracle by making this pond free of fishes. 9. On Fridays, the images of Devi Meenakshi and of Lord Sundareshwarar are placed on the Oonjal (swing) Mandapam and worshipped. 10. Parrots in the Kilikootu Mandapam are trained to call out the name of Devi Meenakshi. 11. Devi Meenakshi, with a parrot and a bouquet, stands in the sanctum in the Meenakshi shrine. 12 ...

Karpagavalli Nin Porpathangal Pidithen
The Kapaleeswarar Temple of Chennai is a very old and revered temple of Mylapore in Chennai. The 'gopuram' (tower) of this edifice is peculiar to all representative specimens of Dravidian architecture. Consecrated to Lord Shiva, this temple contains some beautiful sculptures, among which the bronze idols of 63 Saivite Saints (Nayanmars) decorating the outer courtyard are rare examples. Besides, in the courtyard of the temple under an old Punnai tree, is a small shrine dedicated to the Goddess Parvathi and showing her worshiping Lord Shiva in the disguise of a peacock. It is from this legend that Mylapore derived its name -'myil' meaning peacock and 'oor' meaning town. The ancient Kapaleeswarar Temple of Chennai is a beautiful sample of classic Dravidian temple sculpture and architecture. Fragmentary inscriptions date back to 1250 AD, but the current structure is a renovated one which was rebuilt by the rulers of Vijayanagara the 16th century. The 37 meters tall and grand gopuram is intricately carved. The Kapaleeswarar Temple of Chennai is reputed to be the site of a miracle, depicted through the medium of sculpture in the shrine of the saint before the temple flagmast. Among other unique features are the bronze statues of 63 Saivite saints, canonized for spending their lives amidst prayers and penance. These 63 Nayanmars (saints) are carried by devotees in a colorful procession on the eighth day of the annual 10-day Arupathumoovar temple festival held in March-April. The ...

Happy Thanksgiving Day to United States of America -2010. SPECIAL 1999 MYSTERY WATERS.
Kadu Malleshwara Nandi Teertha Temple Malleswaram has old Hindu temples constructed using the Dravidian architecture which were built during King Venkojirao Bhonsle of Thanjavur's time (17th century CE) like the Kadu Malleshwara temple, which is well attended during the holy day of Shivaratri. At the Nandi Teertha temple, one can see water fall onto an idol of Shiva through the mouth of Nandi. The Lakshmi Narasimha Temple is also very famous. The Sri Krishna temple, is over 100 years old. The Circle Maramma Temple at 18th cross is very famous. New vehicles queue up for pooja every Friday. Kanchi Mutt, Kashi Mutt, and the Chitrapur Mutt are also located in Malleswaram. Malleswaram also has monasteries and trees which are more than 80 years old. Kannika Parameshwari Temple on 8th cross was built by the Arya Vaisya community in Malleswaram. The 17th cross, 2nd main road, Temple Street is adorned by various temples. One among them is Nandi Teertha Temple. Here one can see water fall onto an idol of Shiva through the mouth of Nandi. This was discovered in the year 1999, but it has stood for 7000 years on that spot. Being buried over the years hasn't diminished its aura at all. The temple was completely buried and the land above it was a flat stretch. When the land was dug, they found buried underneath, this temple and it was in perfect condition, preserved by the thick layers of soil. This underground temple was enclosed within a stone cut courtyard supported by ancient stone ...
