One thing that you need to put on your Bucket List is to go to the race track and see one of the Major Horse Races from Around the World. You've got The Melbourne Cup, The Kentucky Derby, The Royal Ascot, The Grand National, The Preakness, Breeders' Cup, Belmont Stakes, Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and the new Dubia World Cup. We choose the Breeders' Cup mainly because Santa Anita Park is only 30 minutes from our house. I also work in Pasadena so I drive by the track twice every week and I always remember going there when I was a kid for the races. My son Caleb has never been to the races (nor my wife) and he has been wanting to go. So we got our General Admission tickets and headed out to the track on Friday. General Admission is fine if you are just going to see the horses and don't mind standing around on the track deck. The ticket won't get you a seat, but you won't be sitting down much anyway so spreading out the dough for a seat in the Grand Stands may not be worth it. General Admission gets you in and also gives you access to the Infield area of the park. It was fine for us and lets you see the race up close. The monitor is sufficient to watch the horses finish and we were there for the atmosphere anyway. I didn't bet since I work hard for my money and hate to see it go bye-bye. Plus I don't know squat about horse betting so I would need lots of luck just to fill out the betting card. But a lot of people bet and smoke at the track so if you are on the deck be prepared to get lots of second hand smoke. The horses are just fun to watch. They are in such spectacular shape and the speed of the race is something you have to experience for yourself. My son kept commenting on how fast the horses were. It is a two day event but we just went on Friday and this is the footage in the video. Saturday was the bigger race day but we went mainly to take our son so it was still fun being there just on Friday. The track itself is worth going to see. It was filmed extensively in the movie "Seabiscuit" which you probably have seen. They had the horse who played Seabiscuit out in front which was pretty cool. The movie was pretty good but I enjoyed the book more (Seabiscuit: An American Legend by Laura Hillenbrand) as it went into more detail about horse racing itself. So I tried to capture the atmosphere of being at the races for one of the premier events so I hope you enjoyed a look at the 2013 Breeder's Cup. You've got to go yourself one day.
