Infiltration through Pir Panjal
Emerging across the Line of Control, infiltration has picked up, before the cold makes it virtually impossible. There is clearly a change in infiltration strategy, they're coming in smaller groups from multiple locations.

Moghul Rally FINAL 2010.wmv
The 1st Moghul Rally, Jammu and Kashmir, was run on the still unopened Old Mughal Road that ran from Lahore to Kashmir via Pir Ki Gali or the "Pir Panjal" Pass. Fantastic terrain, bad weather, high water crossings and landslides all pitched in to make one of the country's greatest events.

7 Wonders of India: Jawahar Tunnel
Jawahar Tunnel, an engineering marvel built at Banihal at a height of 2194 m above sea level, has two tubes with a length of 2.8 kms each. Built by German builders, the tunnel cuts through the gigantic Pir Panjal mountain range and is guarded by the Army. The metal-road-tunnel is built through the heart of a mountain. It links Jammu to the Kashmir Valley and makes it possible to stay in touch with Srinagar even during winters. It is one of the longest tunnel-roads in Asia.

Kashmir Valley frozen in darkness
Its the third day now that several parts of the Kashmir valley are reeling without electricity. Major transmission lines at Pir Panjal ranges and several grid stations have been damaged due to heavy snowfall in the region leaving the Valley without power in temperatures as low as minus 5 degree Celsius. As the extreme cold froze water taps and dried up geysers, people have started using firewood and kerosene oil for heat. Telephone, mobile and internet connectivity have also been hit causing problems to media persons, students and business establishments.

Rohtang Pass - Manali to Leh - Ladakh, India
It had been raining all the way through from Manali to Rohtang and beyond. It was sad that we couldn't catch on the spectacular view of valleys and the Pir Panjal range. The altitude of Rohtang Pass is abppx 13000ft, and is the lowest (and first) of the four major passes on the road to Ladakh. Just tried to catch on the kind of weather we went through our travel to Leh. This weather carried on uptil Baralachla after which the weather and terrain changed dramatically !

Azad Kashmir
Kashmir (Kashmiri: कॅशीर, کٔشِیر; Dogri: कश्मीर; Ladakhi: ཀཤམིར; Balti: کشمیر; Gojri: کشمیر; Poonchi/Chibhali: کشمیر; Shina: کشمیر; Uyghur: كەشمىر) is the northwestern region of the Indian subcontinent. Until the mid-19th century, the term Kashmir geographically denoted only the valley between the Great Himalayas and the Pir Panjal mountain range.[citation needed] Contemporarily, Kashmir denotes a larger area that includes the Indian administered state of Jammu and Kashmir (Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh), the Pakistani administered Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, and the Chinese-administered regions of Aksai Chin and the Trans-Karakoram Tract. The United Nations[1] and other local entities use the designation Jammu and Kashmir to geographically denote said area.

Faith unbound: All roads lead to Pir Ki Gali
Jammu and Kashmir, Aug 27 (ANI): Kashmir has often been described as a paradise on earth. Not just for its natural beauty but also for its unique culture. The way of life in Kashmir has evolved through centuries and is a synthesis of a variety of cultures and religious influences, which have given birth to an ethos, known as Kashmiriyat. The mausoleum of Baba Sheikh Kareem Ahmed also known as Pir Ki Gali Ziarat in Pir Panjal region of Jammu and Kashmir, exemplifies this culture.
