Nargis Dutt - Queen of Hearts
Nargis was a fabulous actress, whose performance in the film 'Mother India' (1957) was widely appreciated. The film was nominated for Oscars. She was born in June 1, 1929 as Fatima Rashid. She made her screen debut as a child in Talash-E-Haq in 1935, but her acting career began in 1942 with Tamanna. She starred in many popular Hindi movies of the late 1940s and 1950s such as Barsaat (1949), Andaz (1949), Awaara (1951), Deedar (1951), Shree 420 (1955), and Chori Chori (1956). In most of her films she starred alongside Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar.
In 1958, Nargis married her Mother India co-star, actor Sunil Dutt, and left the film industry. She made her last film appearance in the 1967 film Raat Aur Din. The couple married on 11 March 1958 and had three children together: Sanjay, Namrata, and Priya. Sanjay Dutt went on to become a very successful film actor. Nargis Dutt - Documentary
Films Division Of India:
A Documentary on Nargis Dutt by Priya Dutt.
The documentary starts with the scene of a hospital where the cancer-stricken queen of Indian silver-screen passed her last days. The following scene was her legendary character in 'Mother India' of Mehboob in which Sunil Dutt, her spouse, played as her son. Indian music maestro Naushad Ali paid glowing tributes to Nargis.
Her brothers Anwar Hussain and Akhtar also discussed the life of Nargis whose original name was Fatima born on June 1, 1929. Her home was an abode of music and poetry. From Allahabad, her family shifted to Kolkata and then Mumbai at a seaside abode. Literature was her love in studies. Jiddan Bai, her mother, was a singer and encouraged her in her pursuits in performing arts.
Baby Rani was her child star name in the talkies. Mohan Babu (Rasheed), her father, on his way to medical studies in England dropped to hear the song of Jiddan Bai became a permanent resident of the house by marrying her. Great director Mehboob gave her the name Nargis.
She performed with Raj Kapoor as well as Dilip Kumar, with light role as well as tragedy, with the same talent and skill. Dilip saw no one with the same versatility adding that she worked without any feeling of burden in a delightful manner before camera.
Lata said that Nargis proved that Indian woman was an ideal wife and an ideal mother. Raj Kapoor said that he still remembered her looks and face when he first met her. He said that she was not only enacted as mother India, she in fact was Mother India. She even risked her life in a fire scene in the film. Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru appreciated her performance. Indira Gandhi nominated her for Rajiya Sabha. Sunil Dutt also had been an MP and her son Sanjay Dutt now intends to enter politics.
While doing work for labourers and health services Nargis lost wait in the process. She developed multiple complications and finally died of cancer on May 3, 1989. Many centres function in many parts of India under Nargis-Dutt Foundation. Her performance in 'Awara' and 'Barsat' was as superb as the music of Shankar J Kishan and mellifluous voice of Lata Jee. A cameraman said that she never grudged if I took more time in preparing a scene. She was the most popular member of Indian troupe in Soviet Union and later participated in an Indo-Soviet production 'Pardesi'. 'Jeewan hay agar zehar to peena hi parhay ga' is a reality she depicted in life as well as in 'Mother India.'
Indian president awarded her Patima Shri Award and she also earned international awards.

Anhonee
Lucknow-based impoverished advocate, Rajkumar Saxena, complains to his landlord about the deplorable condition of his apartment but is instead told by the latter's daughter, Roop, to pay his outstanding rent for over 6 months or face legal action. He approaches her father, Harnam Singh, who not only lets him live there for free, but also befriends him, and invites him to Roop's birthday party. Roop gets impressed when he sings there and invites him for dinner along with her father. Before he could attend, he is asked to represent a courtesan client, Mohini, who is facing eviction by her landlord. He finds her resemblance to Roop quite unusual and mentions this during their dinner. This news apparently shocks Harnam, who gets hospitalized and subsequently passes away. Mohini, who is injured in an accident, retains him to sue Roop as she claims to be her sister, but the latter decides to let Mohini move in with her and share the estate. The latter's satisfaction will turn to bitterness when she finds out that Rajkumar shuns her and loves Roop while a former patron of Mohini, Shyam Sunder Laddan, prepares to blackmail both sisters.

Sanjay, who attended the launch with his sisters Priya and Namrata Wednesday, almost shed a tear or two at the event.
"In the year 1981, when my mother came back from Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital, she had a liver failure and she was taken to a hospital. I don't want to name the hospital," Sanjay recalled.
"The team of doctors who took care of her for one-and-a-half to two years flew down to India - the doctors, nurses, everybody who took care of her and they were not allowed to enter the hospital, and we lost our mom the next day. They came to save a life," a teary-eyed Sanjay said.

Nargis Dutt (Hindi: नर्गिस; 1 June 1929 -- 3 May 1981), born Fatima Rashid but known by her screen name, Nargis, was an Indian film actress. She is widely regarded as one of the greatest actresses in the history of Hindi cinema.
She made her screen debut as a child in Talash-E-Haq in 1935, but her acting career began in 1942 with Tamanna. During a career that spanned from the 1940s to the 60s, Nargis appeared in numerous commercially successful as well as critically appreciated films, many of which featured her alongside actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor.
One of her best-known roles was that of Radha in the Academy Award-nominated Mother India (1957), a performance that won her Best Actress trophy at the Filmfare Awards. In 1958, Nargis married her Mother India co-star, actor Sunil Dutt, and left the film industry. She would appear infrequently in films during the 60s. Some of her films of this period include the drama Raat Aur Din (1967), for which she got the inaugural National Film Award for Best Actress.
Along with her husband, Nargis formed the Ajanta Arts Cultural Troupe, which roped in several leading actors and singers of the time and held stage shows at border areas. In early 1970s, she became the first patron of Spastics Society of India, and her subsequent work with the organisation brought her recognition as a social worker, and later a Rajya Sabha nomination in 1980.
Nargis married actor Sunil Dutt (himself a Mohyal from Jhelum, British India). Reportedly, Dutt had saved her life from a fire accident on the sets of Mother India. The couple married on 11 March 1958 and had three children together: Sanjay, Namrata, and Priya. Sanjay Dutt went on to become a very successful film actor. Namrata married actor Kumar Gaurav, son of veteran actor Rajendra Kumar who had appeared alongside both Nargis and Sunil Dutt in Mother India. Priya became a politician, and since 2005 has been a Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha).
Nargis was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and underwent treatment for the disease at Memorial Sloan--Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Upon her return to India, her condition deteriorated, and she was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. She sank into a coma on 2 May 1981 and died on 3 May 1981.
Nargis is buried at Badakabarastan in Marine Lines, Mumbai. A street in Bandra, Mumbai was renamed Nargis Dutt Road in her memory.
Her absence at the premiere of her son's debut film Rocky on 7 May 1981, where one seat was kept vacant for her, was a nationally famous event.
In 1982, the Nargis Dutt Memorial Cancer Foundation was established in her memory. The award for best feature film on national integration in the annual National Film Awards ceremony is called the Nargis Dutt Award in her honour.
Awards and recognitions;
1957 - Filmfare Best Actress Award for Mother India
1958 - She was the first film actress to conferred by the Government of India with the Padma Shri title, the fourth highest civilian award.
1968 - National Film Award for Best Actress for Raat Aur Din.
1969 - Nominated, Filmfare Best Actress Award for Raat Aur Din
She was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha (Upper house of Indian Parliament) (1980--81),[1][12] but fell ill and died during her tenure.
The National Film Awards honored Dutt by instituting the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration upon her achievement in Bollywood.
On 8 January 2001, Nargis Dutt was honoured with the "Best Artists of the Millennium" award by Hero Honda and film magazine Stardust along with actor Amitabh Bachan.

Biography of Sunil Dutt
Sunil Dutt was born Balraj Dutt on 6 June 1929 in the village of Khurd in the Jalandhar District now in Pakistan, in a Mohyal Brahmin family. Later he moved to lucknow and spent a long time in Aminabad Galli during graduation and to fulfill his dreams he moved to Mumbai. In Mumbai, he joined Jai Hind College as an undergraduate and took up a job.
Starting out in radio, Sunil Dutt was a hugely popular on the Hindi Service of Radio Ceylon, the oldest radio station in South Asia. He moved to acting in Hindi films and got introduced to the film industry in the 1955 film Railway Platform. He shot to the stardom in the 1957 film Mother India in which he co-starred with Nargis, whom he married on 11 March 1958. In the film, Dutt played a short-tempered, angry son of Nargis. During the making of this film a fire accident happened on the sets. It is believed that Dutt braved the raging fire to save Nargis and thereby won her love. Dutt was one of the major stars of Hindi Cinema in the late 1950s and 1960s and continued to star in many successful films which included Sadhna (1958), Sujata (1959), Mujhe Jeene Do (1963), Khandaan (1965) and Padosan (1967). His collaboration with B.R. Chopra proved to be successful in films such as Gumraah (1963), Waqt (1965) and Hamraaz (1967).
He created a record of sorts by directing and starring in the unique film Yaadein (1964) in which he was the only actor in the cast. He later turned producer of the 1968 film Man Ka Meet which introduced his brother Som Dutt who was unsuccessful in films. In 1971 he produced, directed and starred in the big-budget period romantic film Reshma Aur Shera (1971) which was a huge failure at the box office. He bounced back when he continued to star in hit films which included Pran Jaye Par Vachan Na Jaye (1974), Nagin (1976), Jaani Dushman (1979) and Shaan (1980). He launched his son Sanjay's career with the film Rocky in 1981 which was a success.
He retired from the film industry in the early 1990s to turn to politics after his last few film releases including Parampara (1992) and Kshatriya (1993). He returned to films shortly before his death in the 2003 film Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.. In this film he shared the screen with son Sanjay for the first time although they had both appeared earlier in Rocky (1981) and Kshatriya (1993) but did not appear in any scenes together.
Sunil Dutt died of a heart attack . He has one son Sanjay Dutt, also a successful film actor and two daughters, Priya Dutt and Namrata Dutt(Anju). His daughter Namrata married Kumar Gaurav, son of Rajendra Kumar.
