What is a salt marsh?
Ever wonder about the grassy, marshy areas that form where rivers meet the sea? Salt Marshes are some of the worlds most productive, and vulnerable, ecosystems. Watch as biologist Susan Adamowicz, from the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge, explains the history and importance of these areas to wildlife and people.

Coastal Louisiana: Impacts of Hurricanes on Salt Marsh and Mangrove Wetlands
Visit: gallery.usgs.gov for more information. This video describes research conducted by Dr. Karen McKee, USGS Research Ecologist, and her university partners, Dr. Irv Mendelssohn (Louisiana State University) and Dr. Mark Hester (University of Louisiana). They are studying the effects of hurricanes on marsh and mangrove wetlands in the Mississippi River Delta, which contains over 40% of the US wetlands in the lower 48 states. Although hurricanes can have devastating effects on human communities, they may provide nourishing sediment to subsiding wetlands. This video describes an investigation to determine how much storm sediment from Hurricane Gustav (2008) was deposited in marsh and mangrove stands and if these different types of vegetation influence sediment capture. McKee and colleagues carried out their research by helicopter, which is the only way to sample the vast wetlands in coastal Louisiana. The results of their investigation will lead to a better understanding of how hurricanes may benefit coastal wetlands.

Salt Marsh The Nursery Of The Sea
Salt Marsh The Nursery Of The Sea. Filmed in HD quality! Enjoy! A salt marsh is an environment in the upper coastal intertidal zone between land and salty or brackish water, dominated by dense stands of halophytic (salt-tolerant) plants such as herbs, grasses, or low shrubs. These plants are terrestrial in origin and are essential to the stability of the salt marsh in trapping and binding sediments. Salt marshes play a large role in the aquatic food web and the exporting of nutrients to coastal waters. They also provide support to terrestrial animals such as migrating birds as well as providing coastal protection.

Salt Marsh Portland Trails # 2
Yes another www.Animoto.com totally different treatment.
this one same set;
www.flickr.com/photos/kikisdad/sets/72157604465545634/
as the previous but different tune from
Jimmy LaFave the TexOma man his sef.
tune is a portion of "This Land"
from his album of a little over a year ago
"Cimmaron Manifesto" (awesome album btw)
if you dig Jimmy check out his Texoma record,
hell, all his records he's @ www.JimmyLaFave.com
awesome singer song writer and cool guy, now based
out of Austin.
(I like this one better, you?)
(Note ; I wanted to mention the thumbnail is likely the coolest on any of the animoto pieces I have done and that is due to Vimeo randomly picking it (not the featuresd one by the way) and Animoto "kicking some serious visual butt." That's team work!

Salt Marshes of Florida, why we must protect them from the oil
We filmed this over the course of 4 weeks. My husband uploaded the first edit on his channel his channel scidivervideo www.youtube.com his upload is HD We have so much footage that it was difficult to choose what to include in the first of what will be a series. Our goal is to raise awareness of the importance of these vital ecosystems and why it is important to do whatever it takes to protect them.. We now have better editing software and are going to get a wireless mic this week.

Carpinteria Salt Marsh Nature Park
The Carpinteria Salt Marsh Nature Park in Carpinteria, California is an area of swampy land reserved and preserved for wildlife, generally birds. You'll see herons, cranes and ducks there quite often as well as seabirds due to the close proximity of the ocean. The tidal waters bring in small fish such as smelt which the birds feed on, as well as larger predatory fish, even small sharks.
