One of two 125 ton (net weight) transformers being delivered to a brand new substation being built to connect Pen y Cymoedd Wind Farm to the National Grid. It's twin was delivered the week before.
Each transformer was lowered onto a turntable and the girder frame trailer dismantled from around it, before being spun 90 degrees and pushed into position on rollers.
Many thanks to the guys from ABB, ALE and Shield Security for not telling the guy with the video cameras to bugger off :)

After struggling on The Tumble I deciced to take on a hill where I could pace myself more effectively. Rhigos was good for this thanks to the long gradual ramp up in gradient at the start of the climb. It was only once I got to the long sweeping bends that the hill got steeper. This was a slow but enjoyable climb.

Rhigos is a village in the north of the Cynon Valley, in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. For postal purposes it comes under the town of Aberdare, although it is some 7 miles (11 km) from Aberdare town centre.
The village lies just off the old Aberdare road that was the main link between Aberdare and Glyn Neath before the A465 road was extended.
The town centre of Glyn Neath is 2 miles (3.2 km) away. Rhigos lies at the apex of the Cynon Valley and the Vale of Neath.
The hamlets of Cefn Rhigos and Cwm-Hwnt lie to the west of the main village.
There is one shop located in the village, which is a newsagent. There are also two pubs located within Rhigos: "The Plough" and "The New Inn". There is a small school, Rhigos Primary, built in the Victorian style in 1876. Prior to the building of the school classes were held in rooms provided by R Crawshay esq, first mentioned in the journals of William Roberts (Nefyed) in 1856. He states how the school was funded by the colliers and miners of Rhigos who each contributed 1d of each pound of their wages to support a master whose salary was £40.

Rhigos Mountain Big Streets
This was my second visit to Rhigos Mountain and I simply love this site. You can tell that it's a site that won't suffer fools gladly and I'm still learning the nuances and possibilities the site presents. There's easy access from the car park and Nick the ice cream man is really nice to flyers as I guess we lure in the tourist, but it's great to be welcomed on the hillside. It has these huge six hundred foot cliffs and an inky black artificial lake at the bottom, surrounded by forestry conifers, a hairpin road up the slope and great views of the Brecon Beacons across the wide valley. There's all sorts of lift too - dynamic, thermic and wave and I was flying pretty conservatively compared to the locals who were pushing way out into the wave. As for the cloud streets - they were pretty spec... -

It has these huge six hundred foot cliffs and an inky black artificial lake at the bottom, surrounded by forestry conifers, a hairpin road up the slope and great views of the Brecon Beacons across the wide valley. There's all sorts of lift too - dynamic, thermic and wave and I was flying pretty conservatively compared to the locals who were pushing way out into the wave. As for the cloud streets - they were pretty spectacular and I hope the clips do justice to how impressive they really were.
