Chinese Treasure Fleet - Adventures of Zheng He : Documentary³
Between 1405 and 1433, the Ming government sponsored a series of seven naval expeditions. The Yongle emperor designed them to establish a Chinese presence, impose imperial control over trade, impress foreign peoples in the Indian Ocean basin and extend the empire's tributary system. Zheng he was the man chosen to lead this great fleet which reached as far as east Africa opening up rich trade routes, bringing peace and prosperity to war ravaged far off lands, religeous equality, and setting China on the road to economical dominance over the rest of the world. Why then did china suddenly stop the treasure fleets and close its borders to its newly found trade partners?

Columbus, de Gama, and Zheng He! 15th Century Mariners. Crash Course: World History #21
In which John Green teaches you about the beginning of the so-called Age of Discovery. You've probably heard of Christopher Columbus, who "discovered" America in 1492, but what about Vasco da Gama? How about Zheng He? Columbus gets a bad rap from many modern historians, but it turns out he was pretty important as far as the history of the world goes. That said, he wasn't the only pioneer plying the seas in the 1400s. In Portugal, Vasco da Gama was busy integrating Europe into the Indian Ocean Trade by sailing around Africa. Chinese admiral Zheng He was also traveling far and wide in the largest wooden ships ever built. Columbus, whether portrayed as hero or villain, is usually credited as the great sailor of the 15th century, but he definitely wasn't the only contender. What better way to settle this question than with a knock-down, drag-out, no holds barred, old-fashioned battle royal? We were going to make it a cage match, but welding is EXPENSIVE. Resources: The Age of Reconnaissance by JH Parry - An explanation of the technologies that made these voyages possible, and a nice detailed record of many of the important voyages. dft.ba When China Ruled the Sea by Louise Levathes: A history of the Ming dynasty's ventures into maritime exploration. dft.ba Unknown Seas by Ronald Watkins: A highly readable account of Vasco da Gama's introduction of europe into the Indian Ocean trade. dft.ba Follow us! @thecrashcourse @realjohngreen @raoulmeyer @crashcoursestan @saysdanica ...

Zheng He: China's Greatest Admiral
www.1000pictures.tv Here's the trailer to our award winnning documentary. It's hosted and inspired by my partner, Mike Yamashita, the legendary photographer for National Geographic Magazine. Our 90 minute film won top prize at the Asian TV Awards for Best Cinematography and Best Original Musical Score. It aired only on the National Geographic Channel in Asia. And now as Executive Producers, we hope to distribute this around the world. This film is the 2nd in our series, after "Marco Polo The World's Greatest Overland Journey." And our next film will be called "Footsteps Along the Great Wall," in which we will tell the stories of those whose ancestors built and defended the Wall - one of the World's Greatest Wonders. We're now securing sponsors and broadcasters, hopefully in time for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. (Fred Chan & Mel Henderson serve as our Co-EPs).

A man of peace whose fleet had half the world in his grasp and the other half within easy reach. But in time, this supreme leader would be brought to an end by a catastrophic decision. What happened? Join National Geographic photographer Mike Yamashita as he retraces Admiral Zheng He's epic journeys and discover how China's internal struggles turned this Admiral's forces into a ghost fleet, and setback this great nation for hundreds of years. "Zheng He" - The Great Voyager 1405-1433 AD
Zheng He from 1405 to 1433 made 7 voyages with over 1000 soldiers and crew to India and Africa. The great explorer. Their voyages were hidden from history and the records burned. The information of "Zheng He" and his voyages were discovered in 1930. The Chinese invented a magnetic compas giving them the ability to navigate in hostile environments.

Gigant der Meere p.1 - Admiral Zheng He (1371-1433)
Little did the famous Muslim geographer, Ibn Battuta know, that about 22 years after his historic visit to China, the Mongol Dynasty (called the Yuan Dynasty in China) would be overthrown. The Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644) would begin. A Muslim boy would help a Chinese prince. That prince would become emperor and the boy would grow up to be the "Admiral of the Chinese Fleet." His name... Zheng He. The ships that he would sail throughout the Indian Ocean would retrace some of the same routes taken by Ibn Battuta, but he would be in huge boats called "junks". He would go to East Africa, Makkah, Persian Gulf, and throughout the Indian Ocean. Speak of the world's first navigators and the names Christopher Columbus or Vasco da Gama flash through a Western mind. Little known are the remarkable feats that a Chinese Muslim Zheng He (1371-1433) had accomplished decades before the two European adventurers. A Muslim and a warrior, Zheng He helped transform China into the region's, and perhaps the world's, superpower of his time. In 1405, Zheng was chosen to lead the biggest naval expedition in history up to that time. Over the next 28 years (1405-1433), he commanded seven fleets that visited 37 countries, through Southeast Asia to faraway Africa and Arabia. In those years, China had by far the biggest ships of the time. In 1420 the Ming navy dwarfed the combined navies of Europe. Ma He or Haji Mahmud Shams, as he was originally known, was born in 1371 to a poor ethnic Hui (Chinese ...

Preview Laksamana Cheng Ho
This is a trailer video of an ongoing film project. A film about admiral Cheng Ho (Zheng He), starring Yusril Ihza Mahendra, an ex Indonesia's Minister of Nation Secretary. EDIT: This series is currently being aired by MetroTV (every Saturday night). For those who don't know who Cheng Ho is, he's the leader of Chinese emissary for South East Asia nations. There's a rather weird fact about him. He's a MOSLEM, but some confucians actually worship him as one of their GODS! Even confusians in Indonesia hold annual festival for him.
