More about - Table Mountain Table Mountain is a flat-topped mountain forming a prominent landmark overlooking the city of Cape Town in South Africa, and is featured in the flag of Cape Town and other local government insignia. It is a significant tourist attraction, with many visitors using the cableway or hiking to the top. The mountain forms part of the Table Mountain National Park. The main feature of Table Mountain is a level plateau approximately 3 kilometres (2 mi) from side to side, surrounded by steep cliffs. The plateau, flanked by Devil's Peak to the east and by Lion's Head to the west, forms a dramatic backdrop to Cape Town and its Table Bay harbour, and together with Signal Hill form the natural amphitheatre of the City Bowl. The highest point on Table Mountain is towards the eastern end of the plateau and is marked by Maclear's Beacon, a stone cairn built in 1865 by Sir Thomas Maclear for trigonometrical survey. It is 1086 metres (3563 ft) above sea level, about 19 metres (62 ft) higher than the cable station ...

Cape Town - South Africa
Cape Town and the largest in land area, forming part of the City of Cape Town metropolitan municipality. It is the provincial capital and primate city of the Western Cape, as well as the legislative capital of South Africa, where the National Parliament and many government offices are situated. Cape Town is famous for its harbour as well as its natural setting in the Cape floral kingdom, including such well-known landmarks as Table Mountain and Cape Point. Cape Town is Africa's most popular destination for tourism. Located on the shore of Table Bay, Cape Town was originally developed by the Dutch East India Company as a victualling (supply) station for Dutch ships sailing to Eastern Africa, India, and the Far East. Jan van Riebeeck's arrival on 6 April 1652 established the first permanent European settlement in South Africa. Cape Town quickly outgrew its original purpose as the first European outpost at the Castle of Good Hope, becoming the economic and cultural hub of the Cape Colony. Until the Witwatersrand Gold Rush and the development of Johannesburg, Cape Town was the largest city in South Africa. It is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, reflecting its role as a major destination for immigrants and expatriates to South Africa. As of 2007[update] the city had an estimated population of 3.5 million. Cape Town's land area of 2455 square kilometres (948 sq mi) is larger than other South African cities, resulting in a comparatively lower population density ...

2012 Absa Cape Epic Prologue: Highlights
The ninth edition of the race kicked off with a 27-kilometer prologue at Meerendal Wine Estate in the Durbanville Wine Valley -- mountainbiking Mecca on Cape Town's doorstep. The event saw 1 200 excited riders from 46 countries enjoy sunny weather with the first group of riders starting their 8-day journey at 06:45. Far from just a ceremonial stroll, it was flat out from the start ramp heading through spectator points Contermanskloof, Kliprug Hillcrest and Nitida. The route took riders through protected Renosterveld, railing the sublime single track created by the Tygerberg Mountain Bike club. On the final push on the lung-bursting climb up to the Meerendal hilltop finish -- a first in the history of the Absa Cape Epic, riders saw spectators lining the trail for support, with magnificent views of Table Mountain and Table Bay in the background. This time trial was a race against the clock to decide the seeding at the start of Stage 1 in Robertson. Like, follow, share: www.cape-epic.com http www.twitter.com

STABILIZED & ZOOMED-IN: Whale Jumps and Crashes Onto Boat
AMAZING reworked video clip that shows in GREAT detail where the whale bolts up from the sea and hits the yacht. Stunning! A Southern RIght Whale jumped up from the sea, as they often do, but most unexpectedly landed on the sailboat Intrepid, in the ocean a bit north of Cape Town, S-Africa. Amazingly, someone caught a video clip from a nearby boat, and this is a reworking of it, done independently, where the collision is stabilized and also zoomed into to show the details! The whale that smashed down on the boat is believed to have weighted 40 tons! The two man crew, Ms. Paloma Werner and Mr Ralph Mothes, were unharmed after the incident.

National Geographic- Whale Shark
National Geographic- Whale Shark The whale shark, Rhincodon typus, is a slow-moving filter feeding shark, the largest living fish species. The largest confirmed individual was 12.65 metres (41.50 ft) in length. The heaviest weighed more than 36 tonnes (79000 lb), but unconfirmed claims report considerably larger whale sharks. This distinctively-marked fish is the only member of its genus Rhincodon and its family, Rhincodontidae (called Rhinodontes before 1984), which belongs to the subclass Elasmobranchii in the class Chondrichthyes. The shark is found in tropical and warm oceans, lives in the open sea with a lifespan of about 70 years. The species originated about 60 million years ago. Although whale sharks have very large mouths, they feed mainly, though not exclusively, on plankton, microscopic plants and animals, although the BBC program Planet Earth filmed a whale shark feeding on a school of small fish. The species was distinguished in April 1828, following the harpooning of a 4.6 metres (15.1 ft) specimen in Table Bay, South Africa. Andrew Smith, a military doctor associated with British troops stationed in Cape Town described it the following year. He published a more detailed description in 1849. The name "whale shark" comes from the fish's physiology; as large as a whale, it too is a filter feeder.
