Theater Talk: Alan Bennett on "The History Boys"
British playwright Alan Bennett on his celebrated play, THE HISTORY BOYS, a thought-provoking comedy about eight bright, funny students trying to get into good colleges. He also discusses his witty and moving new memoir, UNTOLD STORIES. Theater Talk is a series devoted to the world of the stage. It began on New York television in 1993 and is co-hosted by Michael Riedel (Broadway columnist for the New York Post) and series producer Susan Haskins. The program is one of the few independent productions on PBS and now airs weekly on Thirteen/WNET in New York and WGBH in Boston. Now, CUNY TV offers New York City viewers additional opportunities to catch each week's show. (Of course, Theater Talk is no stranger to CUNY TV, since the show is taped here each week before its first airing on Thirteen/WNET.) The series is produced by Theater Talk Productions, a not-for-profit corporation and is funded by contributions from private foundations and individuals, as well as The New York State Council on the Arts. Say Something Happened - By: Alan Bennett - Julie Walters, Thora Hird, Hugh Lloyd
Objects of Affection Series Say Something Happened (17/12/1982) was the final broadcast in the BBC's 1982 series of plays by Alan Bennett, later published in the collection objects of Affection. A 45-minute three-hander, it marked the first time that Thora Hird had been given a leading role in a Bennett play. Say Something Happened dramatizes a direct confrontation between old age and youth. The latter is represented by niave and inexperienced social worker June (Julie Walters), frantically consulting her notes whenever she's worried that she might have drifted off track in her attempt to process the responses given by the retired couple Elizabeth and Arthur Rhodes (Thora Hird and Hugh Lloyd) when she subjects them to her local authority questionnaire. SILENCE OF DEATH directed by Mani Nasry (16MM FILM) 1ST YEAR RYERSON UNIVERSITY STUDENT FILM
IMDB PAGE
www.imdb.me/maninasry
This Scene expresses- FEAR- noun: an emotion experienced in anticipation of some specific pain or danger (usually accompanied by a desire to flee or fight). noun: a feeling of anxiety and agitation caused by the presence or nearness of danger, evil, pain, etc.; timidity; dread; terror; fright; apprehension. Terrify not your soul with vain imaginary fears. By realizing that you are the one feeding the fire, you can start to take control of your fears. Panic is a vicious cycle that can be broken. When you start to have irrational fears you need to take action quick. Eleanor Roosevelt once said: "You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing, which you think you cannot do." We must stop running away from things that frighten us, face our fears head on, and do the thing we fear the most. Most of the time we'll find out that the "thing" was not that scary after all. Our imaginations had behaved like a super fertilizer and grown a grotesque monstrosity in our minds. Remember, our imaginations are incredibly powerful. They can work against us, creating horrible images that leave us paralyzed with fear and they can also work for us, building a world where everything we do is an adventure, a miracle. And the most amazing thing is that we hold the power to control our minds - we allow fear to dominate our lives or we choose to dominate fear. Those are our only two choices.

"Heaven Earth"
Heaven Earth explores the practice and commercialization of amazonian ayahuasca-shamanism in Iquitos.
The feature-length documentary film portrays all day activities of Percy – a Peruvian healer and another western ayahuasquero, named Ron. Both live near Iquitos and host nightly ayahuasca ceremonies and retreats, mainly for interested westerners.
Participants of ayahuasca ceremonies, tour operators and –guides, as well as western vision seekers reveal episodes of their internal imagery and recount stories about their journeys.
A growing global pop culture – swinging between psychotherapeutic healing procedure and spiritual sell-out.

THE ARICA CHILEAN CHALLENGE - Trials Day 2
The second day of the Arica Chilean Challenge trials went up a gear today as some of the top seeds hit the water and put on a show in front of a mammoth crowd.
May 21st is a very important day in the history of Arica as the City celebrated with traditional dancers and parades.
The last four heats of the second round featured some outstanding performances with Adam Morley (South Africa) Renato Arellano (Chile) Bruno Kuster (Brazil) & Cristobal Sciaraffia (Chile) all dominating the line up with heat wins.
Round three introduced the trials top seeds and the intensity of the competition lifted with the GQS frontrunners all vying for valuable points and a place in the main event.
Reunion Islands Charlie Chaplet set the standard early with deep tubes and stylish positioning to move into the quarters.
Sam Bennett (Australia) was coming off a win in the Peruvian 6 Star GQS and struggled to find his rhythm in his first ever surf at El Gringo and finished third behind Chaplet and Roberto Bruno (Brazil)
“Yes it wasn’t the best game plan but I trained down the coast at Iquique for a week before arriving yesterday” said Bennett.
Others to impress today included Hugo Pinheiro (Portugal) Emiliano Tabare (Argentina) Kalani Lattanzi (Brazil) and Australians Mitch Rawlins, Tom Rigby and Chase O’Leary who all secured spots in the quarters.
The highlights of the day was undoubtedly the ten point rides from both Tom Rigby and Josh Garner who twisted and turned through deep multi section tubes and emerged to the cheers of the crowd.
“Its insane out there” said Garner.
“ This wave is so consistently good its ridiculous”
Results from the quarters were as follows
Quarter 1
Charly Chapelet Reunion 1
Danton Correa Chile 4
Emiliano Tabare Argentina 2
Julien Miremont France 3
Quarter 2
Hugo Pinheiro Portugal 4
Roberto Bruno Brazil 2
Kalani Lattanzi Brazil 3

ALAN BENNETT - SAVE KENSAL RISE LIBRARY - BBC NEWSNIGHT Pressure is mounting on embattled Brent council leader Ann John and Culture councillor James Powney, as hundreds of residents -- over 400 -- turned out to hear Alan Bennett in support of Brent's libraries at a sold-out event, packing full a large church, and raising almost £5000 in one evening alone. The event was also broadcast on BBC Newsnight and has had widespread press coverage, both national and local. www.savekensalriselibrary.org DONATE FOR THE LEGAL CHALLENGE Brent Council has decided to close six of its twelve libraries Barham Park, Cricklewood, Kensal Rise, Neasden, Preston, and Tokyngton. This decision has been made despite massive opposition by residents who want to see those libraries remain open as a valuable resource for the whole community, especially our children and future generations. Brent plans to close the libraries without further notice between May and September 2011. Action needs to be taken now to stop this happening. www.brentsoslibraries.org.uk

A Lady Of Letters With Patricia Routledge Part 1
If you've ever wondered how Roy Clarke created ''Hyacinth Bucket'' in ''Keeping Up Appearances'' you should check this out. Here Patricia Routledge gives an outstanding performance as Irene Ruddock, a snobbish single woman that complains and writes non-stop letters to people about how she thinks things should be. Her obbsession with writing letters eventually lands her in prison. You can definitely see the character Hyacinth forming in this. This is like an early rehearsal of Hyacinth. This is an Alan Bennett Talking Heads Monologue which was recorded in 1987 especially for TV. I find it amazing how she can memorise every word. She is truly the greatest actress. I also know how extremely rare this is to find in shops, so I'm more than happy to share this with the rest of the world. I think we all enjoy Patricia Routledge on our televisions which is why I wish she would return to comedy and put theatre on hold for a bit. Enjoy!
