A74(M) and M74 motorways
The A74(M) and M74 form a major motorway in Scotland. Following an extension opened on 28 June 2011, it connects the M8 motorway west of Glasgow to the English border at Gretna, creating a route from the south to the west of the city. In conjunction with the M6 motorway, it forms one of the two major cross-border routes between Scotland and England. It is part of the unsigned international E-road network E05. Although the entire route is usually referred to as the M74, more than half of its length is officially the A74(M); see naming confusion below.
Route
From its junction with the M8 just south of the Kingston Bridge, the newest section passes through the Glasgow districts of Govanhill, Polmadie, Oatlands and parts of the nearby towns of Rutherglen and Cambuslang on an elevated embankment, with junctions at Kingston, Polmadie Road, Cambuslang and Tollcross before connecting to the pre-existing M74. It then runs in a roughly south-easterly direction past the Clyde Valley towns of Bothwell, Hamilton and Motherwell before meeting the cross-country A71 at Larkhall. It passes west of Lanark and beyond Abington, where it changes into the A74(M) and then goes to Moffat and Lockerbie, before making an end-on connection with the M6.

M48 motorway
The M48 is a 12-mile (19 km) long motorway in Great Britain, which connects Gloucestershire, England, and Monmouthshire, Wales, via the original Severn Bridge. The M48 is anomalously numbered, as it is entirely to the west of the M5 motorway thus falling into zone 5 of the motorway numbering system. It is one of only three motorways in Wales.
Route
Travelling from east to west, after leaving the M4 at Awkley, Junction 21, near Olveston in England, the M48 begins by heading north-west towards Aust, Junction 1. It then passes through a toll booth for westbound traffic only, and crosses the Severn and Wye rivers via their respective bridges. Entering Wales, the M48 heads south-west after Junction 2, passing to the south of Chepstow, past Crick and continuing in a south westerly direction, passing Caldicot and Rogiet. The motorway rejoins the M4 at Undy, Junction 23 to the east of Magor.
Junction 2 can be reached via the A466, which leads to the A48. The junction gives access to the Wye Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. When travelling either east or west on the M4, the M48 is the most direct route for Chepstow and Caldicot.

M602 motorway
The M602 motorway is a relatively short motorway, leading traffic into Salford, towards Manchester and by-passing the suburban town of Eccles.
The motorway itself was meant to be a part of a bigger scheme, the South Lancashire Motorway. To be designated M52, the route would link Liverpool and Manchester, and would be built to provide links to the growing UK motorway network.
However, at the same time, the M62 was being extended north and east of Worsley, around the north of Manchester, and on to Yorkshire, to form part of the Trans-Pennine Motorway route. This would be an upgraded version to the original plan of the East Lancashire Road, the A580, but would link onto the existing route at Worsley. It was decided that the Trans-Pennine Motorway be extended to Liverpool too, to provide a cross-country trunk route. The M62 was re-coursed to run via the route of the M52 between Worsley and Liverpool. That left a short stump of motorway between the M62 and Salford, which was first renumbered M64, then M602. The southern end of the M62 between Worsley and Stretford became the M63.

A74(M) runs for nearly 50 miles between Gretna and Abington. It replaces the older 1960s A74 dual carriageway which has now been narrowed and renumbered to B7076 (B7078 north of Abington). The motorway is the middle number of a continuous motorway route between M1 near Rugby and M8 in Glasgow. The reason for these changes of number are due to politics, pre devolution there were plans for the whole route to be numbered as M6. Footage recorded on 19.08.2021, thank you for watching

The A74(M) Motorway, together with its cousin the M74, connects Scotland's largest city, Glasgow, to the M6 near the England/Scotland border. It's the only motorway connecting Scotland and England. In the 1960s the A74 along this route had been upgraded to a dual carriageway along most of the length, and a new motorway bypass for Bothwell, Hamilton & Larkhall had been constructed as the M74. The M74 was extended to Junction 12 by 1987 and Junction 13 at Abington by 1991. Most of the remainder of the route was improved as an direct motorway upgrade of the existing A74 in the early and mid-1990s so was numbered A74(M). The final completion of the entire route was done in 2011 when the northernmost section of M74 was extended to meet the M8 in central Glasgow.
The A74(M) part of the route runs for a total of 48 miles (78km) from Abington at J13 to Gretna Green at J22. This video shows a southbound journey along the A74(M) from J15 at Beattock near Moffat, through J16 at Johnstonebridge and Annandale Water to J17 at Lockerbie North.

The M74 is a motorway that runs to Glasgow in Scotland... No, I'd not heard of it either, apparently there's a whole other country attached to the North of England... who knew.
In this weeks episode we'll be starting the process of working our way round the motorways across the mightily fine Scotland. There's much to discuss, such as neighbourhood gang warfare, old steelworks, viaducts and old junction designs. Thrilling.

The A74M motorway is the gateway to Scotland from England, without it, you'd have no other options. It's a wonderful motorway that takes you through some of Scotland's finest scenery but whilst the views are nice, the history and story of the A74M is a little more complicated, it's possible that it wasn't supposed to be the A74M at all.
There's the usual selection of oddities, abandoned bridges, weird junctions and I'll explain why there's road signs for the M6.. on the A74M.

Welcome to another video on my channel. In this video it will be my recreation of both the A74 (M) and M74 motorways in Minecraft and in real life it’s the most prettiest motorway I’ve ever seen the scenery and everything is absolutely beautiful I promise you guys to look the motorway up you’ll probably think it’s amazing too. The A74(M) and M74 form a major motorway in Scotland, connecting it to England. The routes connect the M8 motorway in central Glasgow to the Scottish-English border at Gretna. In conjunction with their southward continuation, the M6 motorway, they form one of the three major cross-border routes between Scotland and England.[clarification needed] They are part of the unsigned international E-road network E05. Although the entire route is colloquially referred to as the M74, for more than half its length, south of Abington, the road is officially the A74(M);
From its junction with the M8 just south of the Kingston Bridge, the newest section passes through the Glasgow districts of Govanhill, Polmadie, Oatlands and parts of the nearby towns of Rutherglen and Cambuslang, on an elevated embankment, with junctions at Kingston, Polmadie Road, Eastfield and Tollcross before connecting to the much older section of the M74.[1] It then runs in a roughly south-easterly direction past the Clyde Valley towns of Uddingston, Bothwell, Hamilton and Motherwell, meeting the A725 road at junction 5 (Raith Interchange),[2] before meeting the cross-country A71 at Larkhall. It passes west of Lanark and beyond Abington, where it changes into the A74(M). The road then bypasses Moffat and Lockerbie. The road then shortly enters England before becoming the M6 near Longtown. A74(M) runs for nearly 50 miles between Gretna and Abington. It replaces the older 1960s A74 dual carriageway which has now been narrowed and renumbered to B7076 (B7078 north of Abington). The motorway is the middle number of a continuous motorway route between M1 near Rugby and M8 in Glasgow.
The reason for these changes of number are due to politics, pre devolution there were plans for the whole route to be numbered as M6.

Following an extension opened on 28 June 2011, it connects the M8 motorway west of Glasgow to the English border at Gretna, creating a route from the south to the west of the city. In conjunction with the M6 motorway, it forms one of the two major cross-border routes between Scotland and England. It is part of the unsigned international E-road network E05. Although the entire route is usually referred to as the M74, more than half of its length is officially the A74(M); see naming confusion below.
Route
