Jhansi Ki Rani - Episode 1 - 18-08-2009
Concept Rani Laxmibai The story is about Rani Laxmibai, the gallant Queen of Jhansi, a princely state situated in Northern India. She was one of the leading figures of the Indian Rebellion of 1857, and a symbol of resistance to British rule in India. What unfolds in this show is a saga of valour, love and treachery, and Laxmibais relentless battle to gain independence for her motherland. Episode 1 Introduction of Ulka Gupta as Manu, Ravi Mankane as Bajirao, Satyajeet Dube as Nana, Shailesh Dattar as Moropant Tambe and Amit Pachori as Tatya Tope The episode introduces a little girl Manu (Ulka Gupta) who is adventurous by nature and gallops on a horse to where Nana Saheb (Satyajeet Dube), son of Peshwa Baji Rao II, practices swordfighting with his trainer Tatya Tope (Amit Pachori). She gets into a sword fight with Tope and wins! Manu is very surprised to know that people fear the British. Bajirao, (Ravi Mankane) whose palace she has come to visit, also suffers the injustices of the British silently. Manu is greatly disturbed by this, so her father, Moropant Tambe (Shailesh Dattar) explains to her about the British rule. One day, unable to bear the high-handedness of Jeff, a British officer, on Basu Kaka, a stable caretaker, Manu beats him. Manu is asked to apologise but she refuses, so Bajirao does so, on her behalf.

Moropant voices his doubt to the astrologer about Manu ever revelling in luxury but he assures Moropant that he remains firm in his belief. Meanwhile, another astrologer tells Dixit that if Manu marries Gangadhar, then Jhansis fortunes would turn! Dixit says that he must somehow trace this girl. Tatya Tope tells Manu that the one who burnt the flag is great but she says that the persons guru must be greater for instilling the courage. Tatya Tope says that the guru would feel prouder if the person had hoisted an Indian flag. He says that he hopes for a unified nation with one flag someday. Vaishali tells Nana that they must stop meeting but he assures her that the differences between their fathers could be sorted out. Dhrupad holds Vaishalis hand and gives her bangles but she throws them. Dhrupad runs away seeing Nana. Vaishali complains to Vadrayan about Dhrupads misbehaviour. Vadrayan throws him out of the house. Manu and Prachi colour a piece of cloth and turn it into the flag of the Womens Army and hoist it at night. Dhrupad sees the flag.
