Julia's guide Willie Komani describes the Xhosa 'click' language - South Africa Walks - BBC Four
www.bbc.co.uk More about this programme: www.bbc.co.uk Having tackled treks across the UK, Julia Bradbury embarks on a grand adventure in South Africa. As the world prepares to focus its attention on the World Cup host nation, Julia sets out on four very different walks that explore South Africa's claim to be 'a world in one country'. Julia is a regular visitor to the Rainbow Nation, but this is her chance to go far beyond the normal tourist destinations to a series of increasingly remote locations. However, these are all walks that any reasonably adventurous walker could embark on and they offer a fresh and personal perspective on a friendly and fascinating country that is so often misunderstood. The southernmost coastline of Africa is home to the sun-drenched Garden Route. With fabulous beaches and immense flora and fauna, this is an increasingly-popular holiday spot. But Julia's walk reveals secrets of the history of the Rainbow Nation. She even encounters research set to show that this abundant spot gave rise to the modern human race. With her Xhosa guide Willie bringing every feature to life, Julia finds her first walk an absolute delight. Here is proof of South Africa's warm and friendly welcome and of the constant surprises it has to offer.

The Xhosa Language and Translation
www.adelphitranslations.com - Information about the Xhosa language, spoken in South Africa and the services available from Adelphi Translations Ltd (UK). Xhosa is one of the official languages of South Africa and is spoken by around eight million people. The language is noted for its use of vocal 'clicks' such as the one which actually starts the language name 'Xhosa'. Like most African languages it is written with the Latin script but is actually a tonal language (like Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese etc.) in which the tones attached to words can change their meaning entirely. Adelphi Translations Ltd. translate Xhosa to English and English to Xhosa and can also provide typesetting services, voice-overs, subtitles and website localization in the Xhosa language.
