The United Arab Emirates (UAE) / دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) / دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة, Dawlat al-Imārāt al-Arabīyah al-Muttaḥidah is a federation of seven emirates situated in the southeast of the Arabian Peninsula in Southwest Asia on the Persian Gulf, bordering Oman and Saudi Arabia. The UAE consists of seven states, termed emirates, which are Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Quwain, Ras al-Khaimah and Fujairah. The capital and second largest city of the United Arab Emirates is Abu Dhabi. It is also the country's center of political, industrial, and cultural activities. Before 1971, the UAE was known as the Trucial States or Trucial Oman, in reference to a 19th-century truce between the United Kingdom and several Arab Sheikhs. The name Pirate Coast was also used in reference to the area's emirates in the 18th to early 20th century. The political system of the United Arab Emirates, based on the 1971 Constitution, comprises several intricately connected governing bodies. Islam is the official religion and Arabic is the official language. The United Arab Emirates has the world's sixth largest oil reserves and possesses one of the most developed economies in the Middle East. It is currently the thirty-sixth largest economy at market exchange rates, and has a high per capita gross domestic product, with a nominal per capita GDP of $46584 as per the IMF.The country is fourteenth largest in purchasing power per capita and has a relatively high Human Development Index for the Asian continent ...

The United Arab Emirates Listeni/juːˌnaɪtɨd ˌærəb ˈɛmɪrɨts/ (Arabic: دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة, Al Imārāt al 'Arabīyah al Muttaḥidah), sometimes simply called the Emirates or the UAE,is a country situated in the southeast of the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia on the Arabian Gulf, bordering Oman to the east and Saudi Arabia to the south, as well as sharing sea borders with Qatar to the west and Iran to the north. The UAE is a federation of seven emirates (equivalent to principalities), each governed by a hereditary emir, with a single national president. The constituent emirates are Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain. The capital is Abu Dhabi, which is also the state's center of political, industrial, and cultural activities. Prior to independence in 1971, the UAE was known as the Trucial States or Trucial Oman (Coast of Oman), in reference to a 19th-century truce between the local sheikhs, hereditary rulers of the territories, and the United Kingdom. The term Pirate Coast was also used by some to refer to the emirates from the 18th to the early 20th century, owing to the preponderance of pirates operating from Emirati ports. The UAE's political system is based on its 1971 Constitution, which is composed of several intricately connected governing bodies. As a federation of seven monarchies, whose rulers retain absolute power within their emirates, but with a UAE president, it is neither a constitutional monarchy nor a ...

(As cited on Wikipedia) National Day (Arabic يوم استقلال الإمارات العربية المتحدة) is celebrated on 2 December each year in the United Arab Emirates. It marks the UAE's formal independence from the United Kingdom and the eventual unification of the seven emirates in 1971 which combined to form the modern-day country. The union became independent on 2nd December 1971. On 2 December 1971, all emirates except for Ras Al Khaima, united as a country at the suggestion of HH Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, HH Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, and his other brothers, the rulers of other emirates. Ras Al Khaima joined later as a part of the country. Qatar and Bahrain were also suggested to be a part of the country but they declined the idea. People celebrate this day with flags and drawings on their faces. They also go on streets and celebrate this day ...

CHOKRA | BRQA/V
An automated digital iris scan localizes an ancestral burqa in a performance art of kinetic and "existential" occurrence. Featuring computer-generated imagery with a multitude of scripting languages including rap rhymes and custom code, the audio and visual electronic synthesis of a monitored burqa configures the retinal modesties of surveillance with an intensified gaze of heritage. A spectacle of power emerges triumphant in this hyper-processing computation of immigration protocol, where the narratives of faith manifest as digital imprints of identity. Amazing Dubai
Dubai (Arabic: دبيّ dubayy; pronounced /duˈbaɪ/ doo-BEYE) is one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is located south of the Persian Gulf on the Arabian Peninsula. The Dubai Municipality is sometimes called Dubai state to distinguish it from the emirate. Written accounts document the existence of the city for at least 150 years prior to the formation of the UAE. Dubai has been ruled by the Al Maktoum dynasty since 1833. Its current ruler, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is also the Prime Minister and Vice-President of the UAE.

Oil Discovery In The UAE
The prosperity of the United Arab Emirates and its rapid transformation from a backward desert region to one with a booming economy have been made possible by revenue from oil exports. The UAE possesses nearly 10 per cent of the world's total reserves, and there is no doubt that oil will continue to provide the income for both economic growth and the expansion of social services for several more decades at least. In the coming years, natural gas will play an increasingly important role in the UAE's development -- particularly as a fuel source for power generation, petrochemicals and manufacturing industry. The UAE has also taken the initiative in developing an intra-Gulf gas network that could eventually link up with the Indian subcontinent. Early in 2000, the UAE marked the fiftieth anniversary of the drilling of the first oil well at Ra's Sadr, north-east of Abu Dhabi. It was an inauspicious start for the oil industry, because the well proved to be dry. Not for another decade were major discoveries made, although the Trucial States (the areas which became the UAE in 1971 after the British withdrew from the Gulf) swiftly made up for lost time. In a matter of a few decades, Abu Dhabi, supported by Dubai, turned the UAE into one of the major players in the international oil export industry. Proven recoverable oil reserves in 2000 were put at 98.8 billion barrels. At the same time, proven recoverable reserves of natural gas in the UAE were estimated in 2000 at 6 trillion ...

CHOKRA | Al-Mtsaalh Haal (The Trucial Case) | December 18, 2010
Al-Mtsaalh Haal (The Trucial Case) is a project by the performance artist CHOKRA (Conscious Hoarding of Kinetic Rage Associated) that integrates negotiable research in an executable performance investigating CHOKRA's own origin of the Trucial States.
At the Watermill Center, CHOKRA has researched, examined, experimented, composed and constructed an open rehearsal of Al-Mtsaalh Haal, facilitated with a live and electronic apparatus that features an assimilated composition of digital and analog sound, programmed video, real time algorithmic animations and multiple projections. CHOKRA's open rehearsal for Al-Mtsaalh Haal configured in a historical collapse, with multilingual rap rhyme sequences conducted in Quranic Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, and English; transnational costume; and a consuming dispersal of original accouterments, including saturated pigment, scent, crude oil, pyromaniac emissions, spices and powdered chilies.
Open rehearsal filmed and edited by Carlos Soto.

CHOKRA | SATI.ED
On the sharp horizon of a split widescreen, a reflective double-image serves as a digital moving canvas for performance art of epic sensory proportions. Combining surrealistic visuals with automated multilingual rap-rhymes uttered in Arabic, Urdu, Hindi and English, the monochrome screen is saturated with blocks technicolor algorithmic animations. A costume concocted of transnational garb might be seen as a multi-faceted metaphor updating and challenging ideas on both peoples and places. Sharjah City http://mass-tips.blogspot.com
Sharjah was one of the wealthiest towns in this region with a settlement in existence for over 5000 years. In the early 18th century, the Qawasim clan (Huwayla tribe) established itself in Sharjah, c.1727 declaring Sharjah independent. On 8 January 1820, Sheikh Sultan I signed the General Maritime Treaty with Britain, accepting a protectorate to keep the Ottoman Turks out. Like four of its neighbours, Ajman, Dubai, Ras al-Khaimah, and Umm al-Qaiwain, its position on the route to India made it important enough to be recognized as a salute state (be it of the lowest class: 3 guns). On 2 December 1971, Sheikh Khalid III joined the United Arab Emirates. Like the other former Trucial States, Sharjah's name is known by many stamp collectors because of the large numbers of stamps that were issued by the Sharjah Post Office shortly before the formation of the United Arab Emirates.[3] Many of these items feature subjects unrelated to the emirates whose names they bear, and therefore many popular catalogues do not list them. mass-tips.blogspot.com Thanks for watching.
