St Canice's Cathedral (also known as Kilkenny Cathedral), is a cathedral of the Church of Ireland in Kilkenny city, Ireland. It is in the ecclesiastical province of Dublin.

Previously the cathedral of the Diocese of Ossory, it is now one of six cathedrals in the United Dioceses of Cashel and Ossory.

The present building dates from the 13th century and is the second longest cathedral in Ireland. Beside the cathedral stands a 100 ft 9th century round tower. St. Canice's tower is an excellent example of a well-preserved, 9th century "Celtic Christian" round tower. It is dedicated to St Canice. It is one of only two such medieval round towers in Ireland that can be climbed to the top.

The cathedral stands on an ancient site which has been used for Christian worship since the 6th century. In the 1120s the see of Ossory was moved from Aghaboe to Kilkenny.

Following the English Reformation, a new body was established by decree of the Irish Parliament to became the State Church in the Kingdom of Ireland. The Church of Ireland, as it was named, assumed possession of most Church property (and so retained a great repository of religious architecture and other items, though some were later destroyed). The substantial majority of the population remained faithful to the Latin liturgy of Roman Catholicism, despite the political and economic advantages of membership in the state church. Since St Canice's Cathedral was taken over in this way, Roman Catholic adherents were consequently obliged to worship elsewhere. St Mary's, was later built for the Roman Catholic diocese. Saint Cainnech of Aghaboe (515/16–600), also known as Saint Canice in Ireland, Saint Kenneth in Scotland, Saint Kenny and in Latin Saint Canicus, was a gaelic abbot, monastic founder, priest and missionary during the early medieval period. Cainnech is one of the Twelve Apostles of Ireland and preached Christianity across Ireland and to the Picts in Scotland. He wrote a commentary on the Gospels, which for centuries was known as the Glas-Choinnigh or the Chain of Cainnech.

Most of what is written about Cainnech's life is based on tradition, however he was considered a man of virtue, great eloquence and learning. His feast day is commemorated on 11 October in the Roman Catholic Church and on the 1 or 14 August in the Eastern Orthodox Church.

A lot of what we know of Cainnech comes from legend. However, he is documented by Saint Adomnán (also known as Eunan), the ninth the abbot of Iona who died in 704. Adomnán was a hagiographer and his greatest work Vita Columbae or Life of St. Columba contains references to Cainnech. His commentary on the Gospels, was known for centuries as the Glas-Choinnigh or the Chain of Cainnech.

Robert Fisk (born 12 July 1946) is an English writer and journalist from Maidstone, Kent. As Middle East correspondent of The Independent, he has primarily been based in Beirut for more than 30 years. He has published a number of books and has reported on the United States's war in Afghanistan and its 2003 invasion of Iraq. Fisk holds more British and International Journalism awards than any other foreign correspondent.

The New York Times once described Robert Fisk as "probably the most famous foreign correspondent in Britain." He reported the Northern Ireland troubles in the 1970s, the Portuguese Revolution in 1974, the Lebanese Civil War, the Iranian revolution in 1979, the Soviet war in Afghanistan, the Iran–Iraq War, the Gulf War and the invasion of Iraq in 2003. A vernacular Arabic speaker, he is one of few Western journalists to have interviewed Osama bin Laden, and did so three times between 1994 and 1997. His awards include being voted International Journalist of the Year seven times.

James Vincent McMorrow (born in 1983) is an Irish folk singer and songwriter. His debut album Early in the Morning was released in February, 2010. He wrote the album during a self-imposed seclusion in a beach house in Ireland. His music has been compared to Bon Iver,Sufjan Stevens, and Ray LaMontagne. Tracks from Early in the Morning have been used in American television programs.

McMorrow made his UK TV debut on BBC Two's Later... with Jools Holland on 27 May 2011.

McMorrow performed at the Eurosonic Festival in 2012 when Ireland was the "Spotlight Country".

James is engaged to Emma Doyle and they are due to be married at the end of his tour this year.

McMorrow was born and brought up in Malahide in north County Dublin, he started his musical life as a drummer in a handful of post-hardcore rock bands, while studying marketing at college. Despite liking the comfort and anonymity of playing drums, he decided to take his chances as a solo singer during a summer spent pushing trollies in Dublin Airport. McMorrow retreated to the safety of his parent's house and started to re-educate himself as a musician and a songwriter, using the family piano to piece the jigsaw together.

James Vincent (July 19, 1882 – July 12, 1957) was an American actor and film director of the silent era. He appeared in 23 films between 1910 and 1951. He also directed 18 films between 1915 and 1931.

He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts and died in New York, New York.
