The Taking Chances World Tour is the ninth concert tour by Canadian singer Céline Dion, in support of her 2007 studio albums, D'elles and Taking Chances. The tour marked the return of Dion after performing her groundbreaking show A New Day... in Las Vegas for five years. It also marks as her first concert tour in 9 years since her 1998-1999 Let's Talk About Love World Tour. The tour visited Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe and North America. Pollstar announced its total gross at US$280.2 million, making it the second highest-grossing tour by a solo artist at that time, behind Madonna's Sticky & Sweet Tour. It was eventually surpassed by Madonna's MDNA Tour and others.
The show, directed by Jamie King (famously known for his work with Madonna), combined Dion's performances with color, fashion and dance. Céline Dion performed some of her biggest hits, along with songs from her latest English album Taking Chances. The two hour show was divided into four segments: soul, rock, Middle-Eastern and, fashion-victim. Dion was supported by eight dancers (4 male and 4 female). Rehearsals took place in December 2007 in Primm, Nevada and MGM Grand Garden Arena.
A concert is a form of musical performance.
The Concert (c. 1664) is a painting by Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer. The 69-centimeter-high by 63-centimeter-wide picture depicts a man and two women playing music. It belongs to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, but was stolen in 1990 and remains missing. It is thought to be the most valuable unrecovered stolen painting, with a value estimated at over $200,000,000.
The picture shows three musicians: a young woman sitting at a harpsichord, a man playing a lute, and a woman who is singing. The harpsichord's upturned lid is decorated with an Arcadian landscape; its bright colouring stands in contrast to the two paintings hanging on the wall to the right and left. Stringed instruments lie on and under the table in the picture's left foreground.
Of the two paintings in the background, the one on the right is The Procuress by Dirck van Baburen, a work which also appears in Vermeer's Lady Seated at a Virginal, probably painted around six years after The Concert. The painting on the left is a wild pastoral landscape. The musical theme in Dutch painting in Vermeer's time often connoted love and seduction, a motif reinforced by the presence of Baburen's sexually exuberant picture.
The Concert (or The Perils of Everybody) is a ballet made by Jerome Robbins, subsequently New York City Ballet's ballet master, to Chopin's:
The décor was by Saul Steinberg, the costumes by Irene Sharaff and the lighting by Ronald Bates. The premiere took place at City Center of Music and Drama, New York, on Tuesday, 6 March 1956. Robbins made three subsequent ballets to Chopin's music: Dances at a Gathering (1969), In the Night (1970), and Other Dances (1976), made for Mikhail Baryshnikov and Natalia Makarova.
Taking Chances World Tour: The Concert is a home video/live album by Canadian recording artist Celine Dion. It was released by Columbia Records on 29 April 2010 in Australia and in early May 2010 in Europe and North America. The concert was issued as a DVD/CD combo in two editions: English-language Taking Chances World Tour: The Concert and French-language Tournée mondiale Taking Chances: le spectacle. Dion had embarked on the 2008–2009 Taking Chances World Tour for promotion of her 2007 studio album Taking Chances. It became one of the highest-grossing concert tours of all time. The performances in Boston and Montreal during the North American leg of Taking Chances World Tour were filmed for a video release and directed by Jean Lamoureux.
The release received positive reviews from music critics who praised Dion's stage presence, her powerful performances and chosen songs. It was also commercially successful. In Canada, Tournée mondiale Taking Chances: le spectacle was certified Diamond and Taking Chances World Tour: The Concert was awarded four-times Platinum. The DVD was also certified Platinum in the United States and the album received Gold certification in France. It topped the DVD charts in the United States and several European countries, and reached top ten around the world. In some countries, it entered the album charts peaking inside top ten in few of them, including number five in France.
