Placeholder name
Placeholder names are words that can refer to objects or people whose names are temporarily forgotten, irrelevant, or unknown in the context in which they are being discussed.
Linguistic role
These placeholders typically function grammatically as nouns and can be used for people (e.g. John Doe, Jane Doe), objects (e.g. widget) or places (e.g. Anytown, USA). They share a property with pronouns, because their referents must be supplied by context; but, unlike a pronoun, they may be used with no referent—the important part of the communication is not the thing nominally referred to by the placeholder, but the context in which the placeholder occurs.
Stuart Berg Flexner and Harold Wentworth's Dictionary of American Slang (1960) use the term kadigan for placeholder words. They define "kadigan" as a synonym for thingamajig. The term may have originated with Willard R. Espy, though others, such as David Annis, also used it (or cadigans) in their writing. Its etymology is obscure—Flexner and Wentworth related it to the generic word gin for engine (as in the cotton gin). It may also relate to the Irish surname Cadigan. Hypernyms (words for generic categories; e.g. "flower" for tulips and roses) may also be used in this function of a placeholder, but they are not considered to be kadigans.

Man (Middle-earth)
In J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth books, such as The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, the terms Man and Men refer to humankind – in contrast to Elves, Dwarves, Orcs and other humanoid races – and does not denote gender.
The Elves call the race of Men Atani in Quenya, literally meaning "Second People" (the Elves being the First), but also Hildor (Followers), Apanónar (After-born), and Fírimar or Firyar (Mortals). Less charitably they were called Engwar (The Sickly), owing to their susceptibility to disease and old age, and their generally unlovely appearance in the Elves' eyes. The name Atani becomes Edain in Sindarin, but this term is later applied only to those tribes of Men who are friendly to the Elves. Other names appear in Sindarin as Aphadrim, Eboennin, and Firebrim or Firiath.
Origins
The race of Men is the second race of beings created by the One God, Ilúvatar. Because they awoke at the start of the Years of the Sun, while the Elves awoke at the start of the First Age during the Years of the Trees, they are called the Afterborn by the Elves.

Men (1924) is an American silent film drama, directed by Dimitri Buchowetzki, starring Pola Negri, produced by Famous Players-Lasky, and distributed by Paramount Pictures.
The film was Negri's fifth feature for Paramount since coming to the United States in 1923.

Men (deity)
Men (Greek: Μήν, Latin: Mensis, also known at Antioch in Pisidia as Men Ascaënus) was a god worshipped in the western interior parts of Anatolia. The roots of the Men cult may go back to Mesopotamia in the fourth millennium BC. Ancient writers describe Men as a local god of the Phrygians.
Lunar symbolism dominates his iconography. The god is usually shown with a crescent like open horns on his shoulders, and he is described as the god presiding over the months. He is depicted with a Phrygian cap and a belted tunic. He may be accompanied by bulls and lions in religious artwork. The iconography of Men partly recalls that of Mithras, who also wears a Phrygian cap and is commonly depicted with a bull and symbols of the sun and moon.
The Augustan History has the Roman emperor Caracalla venerate Lunus at Carrhae; this has been taken as a Latinized name for Men. The same source records the local opinion that anyone who believes the deity of the moon to be feminine shall always be subject to women, whereas a man who believes that he is masculine will dominate his wife. David Magie, however, disputes the identification of this ‘Lunus’ with Men, and suggests that Caracalla had actually visited the temple of Sin.

Omi
Omi (voiced by Tara Strong) is an orphan boy who has trained in the art of martial arts since birth. Omi is the Xiaolin Dragon of Water and as such possesses the ability to manipulate water in all forms. His element represents how he can be calm like a serene pond or raging like a disastrous tsunami. He takes his work very seriously and is the only one that wears his Xiaolin robe at almost all times. When it comes to martial arts, he is the most skilled Xiaolin monk of the group, and he knows this quite well. Often he boasts about his abilities, giving others around him the chance to exploit his arrogance. He once joined the Heylin, much to the delight of Chase Young. He often mangles any attempt at slang. His signature move is Tsunami Strike-water. His signature Shen Gong Wu is the Orb of Tornami (later as Orb of Torpedo). His Wudai Weapon is the Shimo Staff. His elemental Shen Gong Wu is the Kaijin Charm.

A “placeholder name” is a name we use to describe a type of person with a particular characteristic. We generally use first names (“Jack” is very popular) but we can also use first names and last names to create the “placeholder”. Placeholder names are very common in informal, spoken English and you’ll hear them a lot in conversations. An overview of the Rise and Fall of Númenor! Living on the island that was a gift from the Valar to the Edain, this great kingdom of Men would prove a pivotal player in the Second Age. Today's video tracks Númenor's beginning under King Elros Tar-Minyatur - the mortal brother of Elrond. From there, we follow the story of these men as they help the elves of Lindon in the War of Elves and Sauron. I'll explain how the Númenóreans begin to turn their backs on the elves and Valar, until their island is finally destroyed after Ar-Pharazôn falls prey to the lies of Sauron.

In this lore documentary we explore the lore of Tolkien wich eventually gives rise to the Second Age of Middle-Earth. We begin with a look at the creation story of the Ainulindalë where Eru Iluvatar and the Ainur sung the world into being. We then cover the forming of the world of Arda and the great struggles between the Valar and Melkor. We then cover the Years of the Trees of Valinor. in this period the First Age begins with the awakening of the Elves in Cuiviénen. The documentary then explores how they traveled to Aman and eventually came to form powerful kingdoms. Eventually however Melkor rises once more to throw the world into chaos.
We cover his plots to seed unrest among the evils with a plot that culminates in the destruction of the Two Trees and the stealing of the Silmarils. Next the Noldor, lead by Feanor, wage their fateful War of the Jewels against Melkor. This epic struggle lasts centuries and ultimately climaxes in one of the most destructive wars in the History of Middle Earth. In its aftermath Baleriand is sunk and the Isle of Elenna is formed. Thus does the Second Age of Middle Earth begin. We set the stage for this next era with the Rise of Numenor and the planting of seeds that will eventually see their destruction.

"Unknown" is produced by Joel Silver, Leonard Goldberg and Andrew Rona. Susan Downey, Steve Richards, Sarah Meyer and Peter McAleese served as executive producers, with Richard Mirisch, Adam Kuhn, Charlie Woebcken, Christoph Fisser and Henning Molfenter co-producing.
Collet-Serra's behind-the-scenes collaborators included director of photography Flavio Labiano, production designer Richard Bridgland, editor TimAlverson, and two-time Oscar®-nominated costume designer Ruth Myers ("Emma," "The Addams Family").
"Unknown" was shot entirely in Germany, using Studio Babelsberg, the oldest large-scale studio complex in the world. Studio Babelsberg is also a co-producer on the film, under an agreement with Silver's Dark Castle Entertainment. Locations also included Berlin and Leipzig.
Warner Bros. Pictures presents in association with Dark Castle Entertainment, a Panda Production. Opening nationwide on February 18, 2011, "Unknown" will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

A “placeholder name” is a name we use to describe a type of person with a particular characteristic. We generally use first names (“Jack” is very popular) but we can also use first names and last names to create the “placeholder”.
Placeholder names are very common in informal, spoken English and you’ll hear them a lot in conversations.
Here are eight British English placeholder names:
Every Tom, Dick and Harry
This means “anyone at all” – especially any person who isn’t distinguished or important in some way.
“I don’t post personal details online. I don’t want every Tom, Dick and Harry knowing about my life.”
Muggins here
We use “Muggins here” when we’re describing ourselves – especially when we’ve been a bit stupid and agreed to do something extra.
“So Muggins here volunteered to take the boys to football practice at 7am on Sunday…”
Sweet Fanny Adams
This means “nothing”. You often hear it abbreviated to “Sweet FA”. (“FA” is also an abbreviation of “f*ck all”, which is another way of saying “nothing”.)
“I know sweet Fanny Adams about football.”
“What did you talk about in the meeting?”
“Sweet FA as usual.”
Jack The Lad
A “Jack the lad” is a young man who is very confident and doesn’t care about authority.
“When he was younger, he was a bit of a Jack the lad.”
We use the name “Jack” a lot in English to describe a type of man. Here are some examples:
“Jack the Ripper” (the infamous killer)
“I’m alright Jack” (an expression to mean that I’m OK so I don’t care about anyone else.)
“Jack of all trades” (a person who can do lots of things, but not particularly well.)
Lady Muck
Lady Muck is the name we give to women who think they are very grand or important and who think they deserve special treatment. (The male equivalent is “Lord Muck”.)
“Lady Muck over there thinks she’s too important to do any washing up!”
Bonus: If you “muck in” in English, it means you join other people to do unpleasant tasks to complete them.
“In this house, we all muck in together.”
Moaning Minnie
A Moaning Minnie is someone who always complains about things.
“Oh stop being a Moaning Minnie! You’re going to ruin the holiday for everyone!”
His Nibs
We use “His” in front of titles for important men (such as “His Highness”) but “His Nibs” is a sarcastic title we use for men who think they are very important.
“I need to get home to make His Nibs his dinner.”
Hooray Henry
This is an upper-class man who is arrogant and who behaves as if he’s superior to other people.
“The restaurant was full of loud Hooray Henrys.”

An overview of the Rise and Fall of Númenor! Living on the island that was a gift from the Valar to the Edain, this great kingdom of Men would prove a pivotal player in the Second Age. It is sure to be a primary location for the new Amazon Lord of the Rings on Prime series, and boasts some of the most dramatic stories from the time period.
Today's video tracks Númenor's beginning under King Elros Tar-Minyatur - the mortal brother of Elrond. From there, we follow the story of these men as they help the elves of Lindon in the War of Elves and Sauron. I'll explain how the Númenóreans begin to turn their backs on the elves and Valar, until their island is finally destroyed after Ar-Pharazôn falls prey to the lies of Sauron.

In this lore documentary we explore the lore of Tolkien wich eventually gives rise to the Second Age of Middle-Earth. We begin with a look at the creation story of the Ainulindalë where Eru Iluvatar and the Ainur sung the world into being. We then cover the forming of the world of Arda and the great struggles between the Valar and Melkor. We then cover the Years of the Trees of Valinor. in this period the First Age begins with the awakening of the Elves in Cuiviénen. The documentary then explores how they traveled to Aman and eventually came to form powerful kingdoms. Eventually however Melkor rises once more to throw the world into chaos.
We cover his plots to seed unrest among the evils with a plot that culminates in the destruction of the Two Trees and the stealing of the Silmarils. Next the Noldor, lead by Feanor, wage their fateful War of the Jewels against Melkor. This epic struggle lasts centuries and ultimately climaxes in one of the most destructive wars in the History of Middle Earth. In its aftermath Baleriand is sunk and the Isle of Elenna is formed. Thus does the Second Age of Middle Earth begin. We set the stage for this next era with the Rise of Numenor and the planting of seeds that will eventually see their destruction.
