"Some of those people, whether they evacuated themselves or others, resist the plan and this is not only legal but as a democratic society we should let them express their views in any legal way they find. I think there is a very clear red line where you cross this legal threshold and you fight your own institutions, I would say. This is totally unaccepted and we won't let it go."

"We received a declaration of war by the government of
Israel, a piece of paper that shows that the hotel Ma'oz HaYam is a closed military zone and that we have no right to be there anymore even though according to the law it is completely legal the same way it is legal for the
Jews of Gush Katif to live in Gush Katif, it is legal for us to be in the hotel, therefore I tore that piece of paper and declare that we see that as an illegal piece of paper and we are calling upon all the people of Israel to come to the hotel and defend the place as if they were defending Gush Katif."

STORYLINE:
In an ominous
sign for this summer's Gaza Strip pullout,
Jewish settlers at an abandoned Palestinian home exchanged blows with soldiers on Wednesday and threw stones at Palestinian civilians before they were hauled out by
Israeli forces.
A Palestinian was critically wounded.
The clashes came as troops tried to evict a group of
Jewish youths who had taken over an abandoned Palestinian house.
Several dozen young extremists, most of them teenagers, broke into an empty Palestinian villa in the al-Mawasi neighbourhood on Monday, a day after the military tore down 11 derelict structures nearby, fearing the opponents would use them as a base for violent resistance.
Authorities fear the young settlers plan to use the buildings as centres of violent resistance during Israel's planned withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, scheduled to begin in mid-August.
Later, the settlers clashed with Palestinian residents and Israeli soldiers fired into the air to separate the two sides, the army said.
Police arrested at least eight people, officials said.
Meanwhile in Jerusalem, Eival Gilady, a top Israeli official coordinating the withdrawal from
Gaza, said resistance to the withdrawal plan was acceptable as long as it remained within the law.
