About Minnesota Twins
Cole De Vries didn't have his best stuff on Wednesday night and the Minnesota Twins could not recover as they lost to the Detroit Tigers by the score of 5-1. De Vries lasted just four innings, surrendering four earned runs on eight hits and two walks. He also added three strikeouts over his 84 pitches en route to his fourth loss of the year. Overall, not much was going on in the Twins offense - they managed just six hits, with catcher Joe Mauer driving in the only run of the day, his 59th of the season. Minnesota could not get the big hits when they counted - the team was a poor 1-8 with runners in scoring position in the loss.
Brian Duensing didn't have his best stuff and the Minnesota Twins could not recover as they dropped a 6-2 ball game to the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night. Duensing lasted seven innings, but surrendered six runs on 11 hits and a walk. He also added three strikeouts over the course of his 104 pitch outing. Offensively for Minnesota, Alexi Casilla blasted his first home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fifth inning off Indians starter Justin Masterson. Overall, the Twins managed just four hits against Indians pitching and were 0-7 with runners in scoring position. Cole De Vries will get the ball for Minnesota on Thursday night.
Scott Diamond pitched well, but he could not out duel Jake Peavy as the Chicago White Sox defeated the Minnesota Twins by the score of 3-2 on Wednesday night. Diamond lasted 7.1 innings, surrendering three earned runs on eight hits and zero walks. He also added three strikeouts over the course of his 93 pitches and picked up his fifth loss of the season thus far. Offensively, Danny Valencia blasted his second home run of the season, a solo shot in the second inning off Peavy. Joe Mauer also added a run batted in, his 50th of the season so far.
Despite a strong start from Cole DeVries, the Minnesota Twins bullpen continued to struggle as the team dropped an 11-4 ball game to the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night. DeVries pitched six strong innings, allowing just two runs on seven hits and zero walks. The bullpen, however, was a different story - Tyler Roberston, Casey Fien, Jeff Gray and Anthony Swarzak combined to give up an additional nine earned runs after relieving DeVries in the seventh. Unfortunately, the Twins offense could not keep pace - they managed just eight hits and were only 1-5 with runners in scoring position against Chicago pitching.
Francisco Liriano dropped to 0-4 on the season on Tuesday night as the Minnesota Twins dropped a game 4-0 to the Los Angeles Angels. Liriano gave up four earned runs through 5.1 innings, giving up seven hits and walking four through his outing. He gave up two home runs in the second inning to Torii Hunter and Howard Kendrick, and from there the team could not recover. Angels starter Jerome Williams went the distance in a complete game shutout, allowing only three hits and needing only 109 pitches to close the door. Williams also added 6 strikeouts on the game.
While free agent addition Josh Willingham continues to crush the ball, the Minnesota Twins continue to struggle to win games in the strong American League Central. The team is 5-14 going into a weekend series against the Kansas City Royals and hopes to turn things around against a KC team that has also been struggling mightily. Willingham currently leads the offense with a .333 batting average, five home runs and 13 runs batted in. Highlighting just how much the team has struggled so far this season, Carl Pavano currently leads the pitching staff with a 4.73 earned run average, a number hardly worth praising.
After years of finishing with either a division title or a wild card berth almost inevitable, it appears that the Minnesota Twins may be destined for more of a rebuilding year than anything else. The team has begun the season 0-4, and with staff ace Scott Baker on the DL, it will become harder and harder for the team to compete with the likes of the Detroit Tigers, who seem to be dominating in all facets of the game. All is not lost, however; free agent addition Josh Willingham has taken a liking to his new home - he has posted a .385 batting average, two home runs and four RBI's in his first four games as a member of the team.

Minnesota Twins tickets allow fans the opportunity to experience a consistently great team always positioned for a shot at the World Series. The Twins have been in Minnesota since 1961 and over the last 50 years have amassed a total of six AL Pennants and three World Series titles. In April 2010, the Twins opened their new stadium, Target Field, which has received great reviews. Get Twins tickets to Target Field and enjoy watching a great team in a great stadium!
Minnesota Twins Tickets - Season Info
The Minnesota Twins have enjoyed a great deal of success over the past decade, taking the AL Central Division title six times since 2002. Joe Mauer, who signed an unprecedented 8-year, $184 million contract extension in 2010, returns to head up a squad trying to move past a disappointing early playoff exit last season. With one of the most dynamic players in baseball in Mauer, there should be no reason why the Twins shouldn't be considered the front-runners for the AL Central Division winners again in 2011.
This season, designated hitter, Jim Thome, has provided some additional excitement for Twins fans. He is closing in on his 600th home run, a milestone that caused huge excitement for Yankee Alex Rodriguez when he reached it last year. At 4th in the division, the struggling twins could use Thome's extra boost!
